  2. Re:Ahem, PAM on Fingerprint Recognition with Linux & IBM's T42 · · Score: 1

Pam is great in many situations, if the pam application do things the right way. But often this is not the case. Take for example the extra prompting that comes with SecurID and Kerberos. Every time you log in, you have to enter a password and a "token" from the SecurID device (card, keyfob, whatever). Sometimes you have to enter it twice. This is all fine and dandy for Console applications (like login or sudo) but try and implement that in a GUI. XDM, GDM, and KDM cant seem to figure out how to do this. GDM comes closest, but is still a far cry from full functionality. The main problem, as I understand it, is the implied order of the prompts and messages. A pam module and send a message to the application, and there is no way to know if that was associated with the last prompt, or the next one.

Another issue is "single-sign-on". Kerberos has a great implementation for a secure single-sign-on, and the GSAPPI protocol goes a long way in helping this out. But pam is completely unaware of this currently.

We handle roughly 1.5million pieces of mail daily, and found major performance problems with qmail. In particular, qmail would tend to start slowing down, for no apparent reason, which would make the queue size even larger; and well, it was a slipery slope. We found by switching to postfix not only did we eliminate the issues, but since this is a cluster of mail servers, the postconf command made admining the boxes much easier.

Also, your skin is a huge (10K ohm I think) resister, makeing large voltages neccicary to pass through. But dont let that fool you, it is still possible to be killed with as little as 5 volts, however unlikely it may seem.

We wont know the answer to this for a while yet. The problem has been society put anyone with mental/physical problems into institutions. In the last 25 years or so, this has changed, but the group homes and support networks set up for these people often have the attitute "THOSE people should not have sex" and they are more or less disallowed to have intimate relationships. It has really only been in the last 5-10 years that this sort of behavior has been accepted for this group.

Exactly... Much like MS-DOS was Microsoft-Disk Opperating System. There is no way they could copyright the term DOS, in fact it gets used a lot by direct competitors. (DR-DOS comes to mind) MS should not be able to protect against someone wanting to use the term windows, or even a varriant of it (eg Lindows) unless they have sought to protect it in all cases.
