For me input data isn't so much a problem, and neither is output data. I just want to be able to easily change values, and instantly see the results throughtout the calculations. Thanks
Well the things you mention, and it is also difficult to create and use complex mathematical formulas.
Well Linux is my operating system of choice, but I don't have huge objections to windows. Excel is no better for what I'm doing than KSpread though so I use Kspread. VBA is good, but I'm trying to avoid having to code to get this to work. Thanks
Well that's what I'm trying to find, a spreadsheet style app that handles this sort of stuff well. Like if I'm changing a few values, it very nice to be able to see instantly what the result is. Writing a whole program to do this would be hard. Thanks,
Umm. Hold on. What do you think the $20B will be spent on? The largest cost in spaceflight is paying all the engineers, and other staff. Last time I checked, they were people.
Okay, I'm not saying it's a replacement for food, but there are lots of poor people, who have almost enought to eat, but are dependant on aid because they have no skills or education. These are the people who could make use of a simputer, not the ones who are dying. Sorry if I didn't make that clear. Most of the poor in India have enough to eat, but not enough to educate their children.
That too, but a computer gives people a chance to teach themselves. For instance a computer was mounted in a wall of slum in India. Within a couple of weeks the local children had all learned how to use it. People would need to be taught a few basics of simputer use, but after that they can learn themselves. This is important because most countries in the third-world don't have many resources to teach people.
Yes. Computers are a tool for learning. Learning is more important than handing out money. For instance, it could be quite easy to create a program that helps people to learn to read and write. Such programs could also teach maths. These basic skills could help people immensly in such countries. Give a man a fish, you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime.
I can't stand people who say that because we think it's impossible to do something now, that it always will be. You don't know what technology may come about in the future. I'm sure the ancients thought it impossible to fly without feathers, but we do now.
Last month on this. I'm using it now, works great. Uses Samba and autofs to mount iso images on the fly. The only problem is that some installers won't work because it's not coming off a cd drive. Anyone know how to fix that? Thanks,
BTW I've just been stuck with the same situation, or similiar. I'm using a GnuPG 1.06 win32 binary release, with Mozilla+Enigmail. Enigmail is a plugin for Mozilla mail that use GPG. Works pretty good. Mind you you have to use the commandline stuff for import, export and signing of keys. Anyway, it can't be too far away from having a good solution for this on Windows. Thanks,
I totally agree with this. If I like a CD do you think I would listen to some rubbishy mp3 on my stereo? Besides ripping your own CD's to the format and bitrate of your choice provides you with much better quality with all the convience of mp3s.
The old NAI PGP program for windows was quite good for integrating with outlook and outlook express. It's what I use on Windows. Unfortunately it's no longer for sale, but if you go to pgp.com there is a company that has bought the product line. You might be able to find a product there that may suit and be compatable with GnuPG.
Depends what sort of backyard you have. Provided you have the tools, the experience in using them, and the right knowledge(plus some unmanned test flights) you could do it successfully. Mind you it would take more than just one person, you'd need at least a team of 20 "amateur" engineers.
Why is everybody who is doing this automatically labeled an idiot? Provided he takes proper precautions, is very careful, and has enough checking of his work, there is no reason it can't be as safe as the American or Russian space programs.....
No you aren't the only one. I like it too. Still lacking some features, but getting there quickly. I'd like to see the inclusion of a safe perl based scripting language which would be able to script all functions of the koffice sweet, but use crypto signing, and other security features to make sure that virii and the like are impossible. Like it wouldn't be able to access files that aren't koffice docs, and would prompt you before doing certain things.
I think the team need some more programmers to help them, so if please help them.
GnuPG does this. I sign all my messages with GnuPG, and verify that the messages I recieve are from the person I think they're from. I rarely use GPG for encryption.

What someone in the free software community needs to do is come up with a community based alternative to paypal, without all the disadvantages....
Mandrake's fonts look nice straight out of the box. Windoze fonts look ugly by comparision.

ping could be used to DoS someone. ls could be used to view the files. who could be used to see who's using the box. man is okay though....

The verb is "failed".

read the subject.
I use the phone normally to verify key fingerprints of all the people I contact. Surely you could phone them.

It signs messages and files just fine. What's wrong with using it?
Um I've seen this system in use. It works.....
Just need a version for windows, with outlook/oe plugins.
