The majority don't want to buy 'good music', they want to affirm some sort of image they associate with. That's why it's boiled down to a handful of cookie-cutter stereotypes: Hardcore Gangsta Rapper(tm), Edgy Club Kid(tm), Hard Rockin Mallcore Punk(tm)

You are so dead-on with this. That's one of the most insightful things I've ever read on here. Seriously.

No, what I want to see is an OS that will take an English (or language of choice) description of an application and construct that application on the fly. If you want a lightweight text editor, it'll create vi or notepad. If you want a full-featured word processor, it'll create Word or Writer. If you want to play an audio file, the audio hardware driver will handle the D/A conversion and playback, but you can fully define the interface - in plain english, not a Winamp/XMMS style skin.

Computers have taken a computer-style interface about as far as it can go, now they need to start working like humans do.

problem is that engineers like their jobs. engineers will do their jobs as a hobby if they can't get paid for it. Why shouldn't a business owner exploit that in today's world?

Organizing a union could possibly take away an engineer's opportunity to work/play, so they won't risk it.

Plus, all engineers are elitist fucks that think they're the best in their field and they don't NEED a union.

This case seems to fall under what they call "promissory estoppel". This is where a contract is entered that will cause grievous harm to the signee if it's not carried out. Microsoft didn't hold up their end of the deal, and Sendo failed. If Sendo can prove that M$ knew this would happen M$ is liable for the bankruptcy and probably whatever back pay the former employees are owned. If they can prove that M$ INTENDED for this to happen they can get punitive damages. I kind of hope this doesn't happen because the board types are the ones who pocket the damage money.

IANAL of course, but I remember this kind of thing from business law in school. If I'm wrong, mod me to -1 so nobody gets misinformed.
