Premiere Pro or Final Cut will do in a pinch but if you're using Vegas you might as well take your ass back to Youtube. Also, I think it should be pointed out Sony didn't make Vegas, they bought it from Sonic Foundry.

I thought lame workarounds were par for the course when dealing with computers? Here's a list of just a few I go through on a daily basis:
    1. My laptop's external monitor's randr setting is currently --above because --left-of breaks the Intel video driver (Xubuntu 8.1 it caused complaints but worked, 9.04 it's performance is on par with a P-100 sporting a Cirrus 1mb video card)
    2. Every morning I have to open a terminal and ifconfig my network address because Network Manager refuses to save changes (which is a step up from 8.1, which wouldn't even save network settings)
    3. I have my 2 Windows partitions mounted in /media and manually mount external drives there as there appears to be no rhyme or reason as to when (or if) they show up in "Places" or a save as/open dialog.
    4. I don't know what the berry_charge kernel module does, but it doesn't charge a Blackberry so I had to dig out the AC adapter.
    5. When working with vector graphics, I have Illustrator installed in an XP virtual machine. Believe it or not, this is faster and more usable than Inkscape.
    6. If I want to commit, I need to exit and restart Eclipse if it's been open more than 10 minutes otherwise Subversive endlessly claims it's "Running..." while doing nothing
    7. It's nice xfce4-mixer in 9.04 lets me use my scroll wheel on it's icon to raise/lower volume, although I preferred 8.1 letting me use the volume keys on my keyboard

Sure it's a pain and there are many more I'm forgetting, but at least it's not Windows :)

You're exactly right: That is most likely how America would implement socialized medicine. It's also the reason you're in this mess in the first place.

I live in Ontario (Canada). We have socialized medicine. I go the doctor of my choice and OHIP pays for it. I go to whatever hospital I need to, get whatever needs doing done and OHIP pays for it. I can have tests done at whatever lab is convenient for me and OHIP pays for it.

Are our waiting rooms full? Yes, for two reasons: Free systems are abused and people are stupid. Instead of using the second hour they're sitting in emergency to ponder whether or not they really need to be there, they go off on half-cocked rants and diatribes that Americans misunderstand and use to fuel the anti-socialized camps. Notice how neither reason was government inefficiency?

  22. Re:DVD vs HD quality on Most Consumers Sitting Out The High-Def War · · Score: 1

I don't know if it's the same in the states, but in Canada cable HD is superior to satellite HD. They're limited by the amount of bandwidth they can send through their birds so whenever they add new HD channels they have to step on the ones already there a little bit harder (ie. rencode them at a lower bitrate). Bonus points if you can find one that actually properly retains the metadata for the AC3 stream.

Of course, this doesn't really matter as a disgusting number of people consider HD to be that cheap-ass 1366x768 LCD they bought at Walmart. It's also interesting to see the number of people working in other outlets (ie. The Source, formerly RadioShack in Canada) who merely reference the sticker that says "HD Ready" when I point out that 1366x768 isn't an ATSC resolution.

  23. Re:Get a life on Trekkie Sues Christie's for Fraudulent Props · · Score: 4, Insightful
Way to completely ignore most of TFA. Just to help you get your head around it: (from TFA)

According to the lawsuit, Spiner recognized the visor as the one that had been sold by Christie's and told Moustakis that it wasn't the real deal. The actual visor had been sold by the actor himself some time ago.

Translation: Brent Spiner had the real one. Brent Spiner sold the real one. According to the transitive property, the buyer got ripped off.

Christie's spokesman Rik Pike stood behind the authenticity of the auction and said the disgruntled buyer's case had no merit.

Translation: What does Brent Spiner know, trust me, you bought the real one from us. (As an aside, does anyone think they deliberately chose this spokesman for his surname?)

[snip] after he brought it to a convention in August to have it autographed by the actor who played Data, Brent Spiner.

Translation: I bought something they claimed was X, turns out it's not, and I was informed of this standing in a line with an assload of people around me.

When you remove the Star Trek slant, it's a case of Person X selling something to Person Y claiming it's Object A when in actuality it's Object B. If you see nothing wrong with this, I have a Ming Vase I'd like to sell you for the bargain basement price of $50,000,000. I just have to go to the dollar store and pick it up.

    And from your post:

Get a life! Real or not, I guarantee it won't have any mystical or special powers. It won't make your brain compute on the level of Data's. It won't make you a member of Star Fleet.

Who says he's looking for those things? Did you ever think maybe he wanted to own a small piece of a fond childhood memory? Even if he wants it to wear it in the bathroom and relive the moment when Data proved to Tasha Yar he was fully functional, it doesn't change the fact they sold him something that's not what they claimed it was.

    It isn't an "investment".

Wrong again. I'd say it's an investment, just not one that returns monetarily. Believe it or not, there are many things like that in the world. Are you going to put off having children until you can get a guaranteed ROI?
