I'd seriouslyreconsider recommending an iBook to anyone. Just because it didn't happen to you doesn't mean it won't to the person you recommend it to. And statistically speaking, the ibook is very prone to failure compared to other laptops.
I disconnected cable long ago. I was tired of paying $50/mo for tripe.
TLC killed off all their worthwhile shows and turned into the "home improvement and biker channel". Scifi channel turned into the "John edwards show". Paramount pretty much permanently killed star trek with "Voyager" and "Enterprise". FOX cancelled Futurama.
The rest? Well, I can get them in DVD box sets, an entire season at a time, with commentary and extras, without any commercials, and watch them whenever I want. It's a hell of a lot cheaper, too.
I recall reading somewhere that for the first time in history since the introduction of television, viewership is actually going down. It honestly wouldn't suprise me.
it was still a better choice. beos was no choice at all. it had barely working tcp/ip, the threaded os was full of deadlocks, the provided api frameworks were unusably buggy, it had no user permissions, the list goes on...
nextstep was flawed but could be fixed (and apple largely did so). beos was unfixable.
how about just clever slingshotting around the solar system? a couple trips round the sun/earth/jupiter/etc. to build up speed before exiting the solar system at high velocity.
its more time consuming to race round the solar system building up speed, but its far cheaper and we can do it now.
theres also the "mini" solar sail designs, where a probe with specially designed shielding travels very close to the sun, when then get rather forcefully accelerated out of the solar system. iirc they were quoting insane accelerations of something like 50g's.
I've long been convinced Larry frequently cuts his nose to spite his face. His business decisions are led by dogma which clouds more pragmatic approaches to doing business.
Careful. The drive in the mini is not rated for continuous use. It's a notebook drive, so you should run it as little as possible. (It's rated for many sleep/wake cycles, but not continuous use).
The iBook is legendarily unreliable. My friend's iBook (nicknamed "iBork") has had to be sent back to apple for repairs no less than 3 times...
apple faced class action lawsuits over the iBook fiascos.

A powerbook is probably ok though.
My coworker is a mac user who switched to Linux.
:P
So nyah.
Except apple didn't achieve it -- at least not first.
Jobs achieved it with NeXT in 1990, 11 years before apple did with OSX in 2001.
This is just part of the bush administration anti-science agenda.
Of course if you have a "faith-based" agenda, the bush administration has oodles of federal funding available for you!
I can just see it now. creationist "science" tv, brought to you by a grant from the federal government.
cancel cable.
save yourself the $50/mo and read a book instead. you won't miss tv at all.

Welcome to the bush administration anti-science agenda. Enjoy your stay.
whats wrong with svn co?
But svk would probably be just fine.
Those cartoons were real indeed. If you grew up in the early 70's - 80's you would remember them clearly.
I disagree. The most amazing result would have to be republicans.
"But NiMHs aren't widely available in stores", claims Mr. Pogue.
I call BS. I can go to the local wal=mart or other store and find literally walls of NiMH batteries and chargers.
"Nickel-metal hydride does suffer from a memory effect; nickel-cadmium, however, does."
they both do?

why not?
making the attempt is at least as useful as success. you learn a lot. useful science and technology can still be derived from overall project failure.
there's a lot of approaches to the problem of manned spaceflight that haven't been tried yet. america got there in the 1960s with brute force.
maybe asian nations can do better?
besides, nobody has even attempted a manned moon mission in over 30 years. it's about time someone gave another stab at it.
which fits in nicely with the bush administration anti-science agenda.

apple quotes their g5s at 55W.
however AMD is now producing low power opterons which match this.
actually no. cisco makes heavy duty routers which take 48VDC. they eat lots of current, easily more than your typical server.
for example the as5800 and mgx 8200 have options to run off 48vdc. the mgx 8200 power requirements state 1000W !
Larry doesnt come across as a ruthless authoritarian to me, he comes across more as someone so blinded by dogma he'll cut his nose to spite his face.
In the end it turns out larry has as much social skills as djb and tdr.

on the other hand, svk does support distributed repositories. and it works with subversion.
RCS and CVS are definitely non-starters.
actually its closer to xabungle. you know, the one with diesel powered mecha that have foot pedals and steering wheels.

imho that case is just like any other generic HTPC set top case.
now thats a case.
