    Maybe, but older versions of MacOS weren't as good as OS/2. They had the "polish" but not enough under the hood.

    It varies from bank to bank. My bank charges a fee if I drop below a minimum balance, or if I withdraw from my savings account more than 9 times in 3 months, but I don't get charged for writing checks.

    I guess the land of the 'free' doesn't apply to rudimentary financial services...

    There's also no way to offload shows that you've recorded once the paltry "35 hours" of storage is used up.


    Bzzt! Wrong! Tivo has a "Save to VCR" function, and I've heard it also works with DVD's.

    Speaking of crappy new shows, I've noticed that a large percentage of my Season Passes are on channels like Hallmark and TVland, that have older shows. I watch far more of those than I do new stuff!

    IANAL, but I don't think MS can patent long filenames. They can only patent their implmentation of long filenames. FreeDos cannot use MS's technique, cleanroom or not, but nothing stops them from finding a different way to implement long filenames.

    Slackware 9.1 is 2.6 ready. LFS and Debian should be good choices. I've heard about problems with Gentoo, and I wouldn't trust RH or Mandrake with 2.6 yet.

    Fedora Core 1 IS a real release. I haven't tried it myself, so I don't know if it's any good, but it IS a release.

    I've heard some places use DOS for their POS systems. I think that would be a better choice for a POS system. SCO is too big a POS, even for POS!

    Why don't you guys complain about that crappy Enterprise show? It actually demonstrates it's hate on for fans every show.


    I've not griping about the crummy Enterprise show because this isn't a story about crummy Enterprise; it's a story about crummy BSG with Stardoe! When /. does a story about Enterprise, I'll gripe about it. The show, not the story.
