While the corporations are outsourcing everything to the lowest bidder, they're forgetting something important. SOMEBODY HAS TO BE ABLE TO BUY THEIR SHIT!!! If all the American workers are unemployed, and the Romanians are working for $100 per month, who's going to buy their shit? At best they'll have to lower their prices dramatically; at worst they're outta business!
The nice thing about a book is that it doesn't have a power switch - it's actually relaxing to sit there and read it.
no the nice thing about a book is that It cant be taken away from you, you can lend it to a friend, you can sell it at a garage sale or trade it in at a used book store.. all of which the Writers Guild DESPERATELY want to stop you from doing.
a paper book gives you a ton of freedom that publishers and writers are massively pissed off about and want to take away.
This is the real benefit. I can bury my books in a locker so that they cant be stolen or burned... my e-books can have their "license" revoked at and second for any reason or self destruct.
You're both right! I can real my REAL books during a power-outage, AND I don't have to worry about some greedy SOB playing games with me. Once I buy the books, they're MINE, and I can do anything I want with the

By that logic, I'll probably start getting ads in Spanish! Except I don't speak Spanish! When I moved into that neighborhood, most people spoke English. So why don't I move? Because I happen to like my house, especially since it's almost paid for. Besides, these days nobody actually TALKS to their neighbors!
Just as our brains lack the function to smell a banana at a hundred feet. Though, their brains do lack the inhibitors that keep us from throwing our poo at someone..
For the banana, that's not the brain! Chimps can just smell better than we can. As for the poo, what they do in the wild, we do on Slashdot!
YMMV! I couldn't even INSTALL OpenBSD, and I couldn't get FreeBSD to recognize my Zip Drive. I never tried NetBSD, but I have no reason to think it would do any better than FBSD. It's a well known fact that BSD lags behind Linux on hardware support.
I agree that Slackware's manual package management can be cumbersome, but I've also found it to be very reliable. I've had trouble on several occasions with Debian apt-breaking my system. I only broke Slack once, and it was easy to fix because I knew EXACTLY what broke it. I've never tried Gentoo, but I suspect that it would have similar problems.
Critical difference. When they went after BSD, they tried to smother the baby in the crib. With Linux, they're taking on a roudy teenager. Its going to be a lot harder to FUD it to death than it was with BSD.
You're 99% right. I know of some Windows users who choose Windows, knowing the alternatives, because Windows fits their needs. However, the main reason it DOES fit their needs better is because Windows is everywhere! The reason that kewl hardware works with Windows it the manufactorer knows it BETTER work with Windows. Joe has dozens of people to ask when he has a Doze question. You're the only Linux user he knows. As long as 98% of people buy Windows "because its there", it will be the dominant OS.
Actually, they copied from both. They took the UI from the Mac, and the guts from OS/2. And since each one was only 95% as good as the original, they called it Win95!
I agree! When I used to watch Saturday morning cartoons, they had action/adventure shows like Space Ghost, Jonny Quest, even SuperFriends. I lost interest when they switched to "funny" shows. Even the action shows became cheap marketing stunts like Pokemon & Transformers.:(
Wrong! It's GNU/BSD!

2. They might be admitting that I-ANAL!

Well, with everything illegal, NY should be one of the safest places in the country. Oops!

Maybe. But Apple's consumer OS multitasked like Win 3.1! Win95 did better than the Mac!
Apple used to say that Win95 == Mac86. The only problem was that Mac99 == Mac86. One thing M$ did NOT have a monopoly on was lack of innovation.
Actually, they copied from both. They took the UI from the Mac, and the guts from OS/2. And since each one was only 95% as good as the original, they called it Win95!
M$ may have been second to last with their "preemptive, protected multitasking OS", but they still beat the Mac! By years!
