True enough. There were "Internet search" sites, but they all totally sucked. Google completely changed the way we look at the internet by producing a search engine that provided accurate, relevant, fast results in a clean, usable interface. Because of Google, URLs are all but irrelevant to most internet users. Need to find Apple innovations? Google "Apple innovations". Information about cabbage? Google "cabbage".
Once, my machine went kablooey and I lost several URLs. I found all the lost sites with Google.
One time, I was driving my mom around, and she wanted to look at several houses that were for sale. She read me the addresses, and I drove past them. Then I drove her to the bank so she could withdraw some cash. Oops, she forgot her PIN! Luckily, she had it written down at home.
I see your point, especially related to #7. However, I'd prefer to know that we understand pathogens, antibiotic actions, and immunization before we really, really need that knowledge. Bubonic Plague wiped out about 1/3 of Europe's population because they didn't have antibiotics.
It was even worse than that. I read somewhere that many Europeans blamed cats (because they were witches pets) for the Plague and killed them, causing the rodent population to increase! Yikes!
If my (hypothetical) child was anything like me in my teens, I'd have no problem letting him share bank accounts with a trusted GF. It's not like there would actually be any money in the damn thing.
Interestingly, a FOAF on Facebook is "named" TonyAndAndrea. I've seen him/her/them post on the friend's wall, I have no idea which of them actually wrote the post.
Agreed! I know squat about medical stuff, but years ago, I had to document one of my systems so the boss could better understand it. That documentation wasn't perfect, and it lagged behind as the system changed, but it did help.
Heh! My first boss used to be a programmer, and one of his early programs was an important and long-lived part of the system I worked on. He admitted that it was a very large plate of spaghetti, and a PITA to maintain. I think he got himself promoted just to get away from that monster.:)
Speaking as an old guy (over 50), I probably don't learn new stuff as quickly as I used to. OTOH, I don't really need to, since most of the new stuff is similar to old stuff that I already know.

I vaguely remember a search engine called "Dogpile" I'd guess that it was probably called that for a reason.
Did the users upload to MU and delete their local copy? If not, they still have their data.
I think all politicians should be sent to outer space.
Many vendors preinstall Symantec. Unless the customer actually knows how big a POS it is and stops them, they'll get it crammed on their box.
My password is "I forget".

Also, most modern languages are at least somewhat based on C.
Just wait until his dad becomes President.
Make sure the windows are shut.

It does if you're doing it right. But you could still be screwed if your dog eats your laptop right after your cloud goes poof.

Maybe they're in California. I've heard that 600K barely bought a shack at the height of the boom there.

If Oracle had been in charge of COBOL, businesses would have used RPG.
Everytime I ask for free rain, I get told I'm all wet.

I thought it was "all intensive porpoises". Though I don't understand what dolphins have to do with the US internet.
Don't insult my neighbors. Some of their garbage is decent.
Last I heard, Fox hadn't decided whether to give it a second season. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Brings a whole new experience to shows like Terra Nova!
Wearing prescription glasses is one thing. Wearing 3D OVER my prescription glasses is another. Not going to happen!
