1. Re:whos bitch are you? on Helping Your Ex-Employer? · · Score: 1

    From another perspective...

Why should I care what people think of me when I'm dead?

What will make me feel good is what happends to me when I'm alive.

I might be praised, maybe even a foundation set up for me when I'm dead. But it would stop the maggots from eating away my flesh.

  4. This is fair on FBI Raids Homes and Seizes Bandwidth Pirates' PCs · · Score: 1

This is fraud, plain and simple.

The ISP trusted these people. They broke this trust, to the tune of $250,000 (or possibly less, if some posts are to be believed).

If someone steals from the till, is it the managers fault for not securing the till? NO. The manager trusts his/her staff, just as the ISP trusted these people.

This is fraud, plain and simple, and they should be made to pay for exectly what the ISP lost.

Not sure about confiscating computers though, seems a bit OTT

This isn't about openness. This is about setting rules to limit what institutions like echelon can do.

The results of spying don't have to become public knowledge, but there should be limits to protect privacy.

In much the same way, whistle-blowers are (should be?) encouraged, but people who give away secrets should not.

  8. At my schools on Games in High School? · · Score: 1

In high school (junior high to americans) we played Quake 1 (when we had crap computers) and AEO II (when we had Duron 700s)

In college (senior high to americans) we play CS, Half Life etc.

High school got a bit rowdy because it was supervised by supposedly mature students. But it was fun.

  9. Most of Australia didn't have it anyway on Death of Decent Australian Broadband · · Score: 2, Insightful

Only some parts of Sydney, Brisbane and Melborne ever had cable internet.

As far as warez goes: the main reason I want broadband is so I can download linux ISOs.

The second reason is warez. But people, if the entertainment and software companies arn't forced to provide downloadable versions of their products, they ain't going to do it out of kindness.

I'd pay for fast servers. I already do for some programs (ei DAVE, Virtual PC and EV Nova). The rest of software, movies and music will be legally downloadable if the corperations are forced by consumer soverignty. I'm not advocating free beer. But internet distribution (not just the ordering) is a good thing, and better when it's legal with artists and programmers compenstated.

BTW the only broadband for those aussies not in syd/melb/bris is ADSL. Decent ADSL (3GB peak, 7GB off-peak 512K/128K) is AUS$100 (US$50)

The again relates to why adam smith's free market is a good thing. As it is, their is 2 cable companies in Australia. If one changes terms, there far less incentive for the other to keep there old terms. This is far different with real competition.

  10. What Blizzard should have done on How bnetd Developers Reverse Engineered Battle.net · · Score: 1

    Blizzard doesn't distribute a battle.net hub.

    BNETD does.

Blizzard gets mad because BNETD doesn't check for warez copys.

Shouldn't Blizzard then have distributed an official hub?

Less users would then have been aware of warez friendly hubs. You can't stop the 10% who will do every thing they can to be warez puppies, but you can take steps to stop the 90%.

Stopping the 90% this way though is morally bankrupt. Someone stepped in and created a product which adds value to your product. You want CONTROL OVER ALL, so instead of providing BNETD with help to implement copy protection, you sue them to take them down!

    Screwed.
