Of course it should also be noted (as the story itself was also corrected) that this is found in the license agreement for the Frontpage LOGO. I didn't notice that at first either. My only beef with this entire post, and the article that it came from, is that people can't be bothered to even check the most basic facts about a story before posting it. If you check it out first you are on much stronger grounds with your arguments, and I for one would be much more prone to listen. Otherwise I just write it off as baseless Microsoft bashing.
As for the 'CthulhuDragon', I came up with that name about 7 years ago (I was 15 at the time), and am just too lazy to come up with a new nic.;)
Did anyone bother to check the EULA itself? Here is what it says:
For purposes of this section, the Software means the FrontPage Web components, including the MSNBC news headline component, the MSN MoneyCentral Stock Quote component, and the MSN Search component.
You may not use the Software in connection
with any site that disparages Microsoft, MSN, MSNBC, Expedia or their products or services, infringe any intellectual property or other rights of these parties, violate any state, federal or international law, or promote racism, hatred, or pornography.
They are not talking about Frontpage! They are only covering the Microsoft Web components! This has nothing to do with pages made with Frontpage itself! But then it was too hard for the author of the article to verify the "tip" he got from a reader.
Unless NetGear or Linksys comes up with a router that has a USB connection, I'd have to pay the ransom to get the Ethernet version of their modem to use the service. So I have telocity at the moment.
I know linksys did:
Linksys Router
Furthermore, the biggest turnoff from XP is that it "calls home". Turn on Zone Alarm or Tiny Personal Firewall, and watch while screensavers try to connect to microsoft.com. Why? I don't know, presumably to send information about the system.
Check your time settings. I bet you have time synchronization on. The default server is time.microsoft.com. Without this on, I get no outgoing traffic. So its not "calling home" just synchronizing the time. It would be patently illegal to send system information without your express consent. Ask Battle.net what happens when you do!
You got only one this right here, the default java download is Microsofts. I run XP and the first time I ran into a Java site I was presented with a dialog box that asked if I wanted to download the Java plugin. Exactly the same as if I had visited a Flash site. No difference. Passport is not required for any features except for Messenger. That is the only one. Windows update does not, and never has asked for a login.
Code signing is not done by Microsoft, merely supported by them. To get signed you would go to another company (Verisign, etc) to get code signing. Microsoft doesn't make a dime on that. Passport is really only used on their own websites (expedia). Thats it. If you don't have one it won't really affect you much.
This might help pudgy gamers (myself included) get some much needed exercise! Of course the lazier ones will just sit in a chair and use their arms to do the leg motions, but for the rest who don't mind looking like an absolute fool doing their fake street fighter moves, it would actually help. Add some natural sunlight to the room, and you might be on the way to normality.:) (Hey, don't get mad at the comments, I'm a gamer too, natural sunlight is not my friend)
Not necessarily, in some cases settling is cheaper than paying the court costs and possibly generating bad publicity. American society has become so litigiuous that corporations are constantly being sued for nonsensical reasons. Settling is a way to make them go away. Was that the case here? Maybe, maybe not (Sun did at least have a genuine complaint). Without all the facts its hard (or maybe too easy) to be a judge of guilt.
