well you have been very lucky. My experience with it is that it is shaping up to be something awesome but as of right now it isn't worth pissing off users with it. It would gain a bad name and I just don't want people associating Gaim with unpolished and bug-ridden.

I have had my fair share of Gaim crashes when receiving an email notification (MSN) with international characters in its subject. I've had version 0.78 crash on me for no reason whatsoever. I've also had no progress bar when sending files up until 0.81 and before that it sometimes appeared and never went away. There are still lots of things that need to be dealt with before this program is usable for the majority of users. A small annoying bug could turn them away from using Gaim for good even if the next .01 increment would fix that bug and make the sofware perfectly alright for their usage. Better to be safe and make people see the show once it's ready for the road.

But I wouldn't tells Windows users to jump right away to Gaim. It is still in beta and has a slew of bugs. Telling Windows users who have no idea what Open Source Software is that they should use bug-ridden software is the wrong way to get them to like it. Gaim is only in version 0.81. Wait till it hits 1.0 before telling people to use it.

He was really trying to sell the 512m card to me saying I'd probably never be able to fill up such a big card. He asked me what kind of camera I had and I told him it was a 6.3 megapixel camera. He then seemed to take me a little more seriously.

He turned around and asked his collegue if they had any terabyte compact flash cards. His friend smiled and with a condescending look told me that terabyte compact flash cards didn't exist yet but they probably would soon. He then asked if I wanted him to check the prices on the 1gig card so I acquiesed. I thought that would take too much effort to explain that his friend needed a refresher on his removable media sizes so I just didn't bother and thought that he'd probably just laugh about it with some of his more knowledgeable friends.

I just asked him for the price for the 1gig compact flash and then jokingly asked him if I could do a preorder on the terabyte compact flash for when it comes out. He said that they didn't take pre-orders that far down the road. I laughed and left! :)

Now if the screens of portable devices approached the readability that a normal printed book had I'd be reading way more on them. But as it stands now I can't read an ebook for hours but I can read through hundreds of pages on a printed book without a problem.

About a month and a half after the operation I was legally allowed to drive without glasses for the first time ever! I now sit at my computer for up to 12 hours a day and can't say I have any major problems compared to before. I got my eyes tested by a professional optometrist, I forget what my vision was exactly but one eye was better than normal vision and the other is slightly lower. This is in normal day time. At night my vision is good enough to drive but there is a small amount of hallow around bright objects. Nothing that bothers every day things but it makes it hard to star-gaze.

My eyes also get drier than normal but it's nothing I can't live with. If I had to do it all over again I would. I'm more than happy to not have to wear glasses or contacts!
