  1. Re:I don't like what it could turn into. on First, Do No Harm - A Hippocratic Oath for Coders? · · Score: 1

Unfortunately, the oath doesn't allow a doctor to assist in suicide and alleviate pain in that way. WTF is that? When in pain, our society is too selfish to let go of people. That kind of rule could be incorporated into this oath, with that damned DMCA in it. And it would completely contradict the rest of the oath. I was going to make a Hypocritic Oath joke, but you knew what I was leading into.

I have to wonder why most people are just kind of cracking Star Trek jokes and such when this may be a serious situation. Couldn't you use Star Trek phrases for anything? If it actually involves Star Trek, than it's not exactly as witty, and since this is pretty serious, maybe this would not be a good time to be doing that sort of thing. How about something like Mark Hammil's carreer-shortening "Nooooo! That's impossible!"? That's much better.

I'm honestly a logical man, but I do belive that aliens exist (whether humans have encountered them is a different matter) and that psychic powers are not impossible. Brainwaves will be able to be captured and used as a communication form and as energy, but can the brain do it naturally?

These are children; they are supposed to have restricted access to violence and nudity.
Should we even be limiting them from such naughty things called LIFE? Nudity is not bad, it's the Puritan ethic America was built on that makes it so. As for violence, it depends on the kid. I don't like violence, but it's real, and it happens. Don't Disneyfy your child's world. IMHO

There goes another freedom. All I can do is watch the USA's basic ideas go down the crapper one by one before I pack up and move to Canada or Japan.

Actually, I just uninstalled KaZaA lite. You know why? I still found nice little "hidden" temp files in my shared folder, presumeably all ready to be sent to KaZaA HQ. It also still had pop-ups and would cause my computer to crash and reboot for no reason. It hardly did what was advertised, and I think I'll just stick to Gnutella-based Morpheus, because this is my last straw with the FastTrack/FasTrack network.

  9. Re:I like the XBox -- but just the XBox on Microsoft's Family Room Change · · Score: 1

Sony and Microsoft's foray into the console gaming market solidifies that consoles are no longer just consoles; they're entertainment centers. How long do you think MS can resist adding new features to the 'Box? Not long. The next Xbox is going to be more than just a game/DVD player: it'll have it all. So will Sony's. Nintendo will be straying from the market again, making their new console out of Paper Mache.

By the way, I'm a huge Xbox fan too. I mean, Halo online is an expirience you can't get anywhere else!

Actually, real lightsabers (well, the basis) have been invented. There's only two in the world, one was made by a technical institute in Florida. They're just beams of powerful, controlled light made by a big-ass generator. I'm not even kidding. I've never seen it of course, but I got it from a reliable source.

Well, now it's our fucking business, if you saw that thing that happened last month.

Yeah, that World Trade Center thing.

I completly agree with you on the Vietnam War issue (or conflict, because we never lost...sure). It was unnecessary and just another way to screw ourselves over.

    But I digress.

I do see your point about how the Afghanis should knock the Taliban out of their country themselves, but so many atrocities were committed against the U.S. that it would be just unacceptable to stand by and watch. Like Prime Minister Blair said, it would be more dangerous not to retaliate. Then we'd be bin Laden and any other terrorist's whipping boy-country-thing. You know what I mean.

Steps were taken to make sure not to bomb various non-terrorist buildings and people, but civilian casualties are unavoidable.

We must commit resources to the region to ensure their economic future of the region.

I agree, but let's get the Taliban out of there first! :)

Actually, Sony used the same strategy with the PS2. They basically said that if they advertised for the competitors, they wouldn't get their (then much sought after) PS2s.
