Seriously, how hard is it to jam a passive RFID response device ? You could probably build one powered by those coin-sized CR123 lithium batteries, plus a couple of chips...stick that under the checkout counter at Walmart, and things will be fun !
Imagine the day they eliminate barcodes and rely solely on RFID tags...a lot of price checks !
In my apartment building, someone used to steal only the designer/upscale branded stuff..Nike, Adidas tracksuits, t-shirts...I think loops for putting your own combination lock would have been a great idea.
P.S. This is totally off-topic, but in context with the above post.
I agree with you...I paid 140$ for my 5040 ReplayTV, and have been paying 9.95$ a month...but for that price, I got all the same hardware, a TV tuner which works great, a TV-out which works just great, a super-silent hard drive, I have all their developers developing new features for automatically downloading to my ReplayTV, I get a pre-processed TV guide - I admit I've always built my own desktop systems, but this is an appliance, and it should work like one...without needing time consuming configuration, maintenance, reboots because of crashes, or settling for sub-standard TV tuner cards with that high-pitched whine in the background...or the high pitched whine of the Western Digital "el-cheapo special" drives.
I think there are a lot of features I wish I had in it, but it does it's job very well...and the price - I think I'm now up to around 200$ (140 + 6 months worth of fees).
You don't need to do anything (in fact, it is better that you don't). The IE upgrade coming down the pipeline in summer will have auto popup blocking. Check the latest post on the main slashdot page.
Has anyone seen those P2P download buttons on some gaming sites ? They let you download large (100s of MBs) game demos from multiple locations, just like Kazaa and others.
That's the best way.
Somebody mark this as off-topic !

On my page, the subject lines show up at the bottom of the page and since it's all spam most of the time, I won't bother to check my yahoo mail till there's something interesting on that page.
Alternately, I'm going to use myrealbox.com or lycos.co.uk since they have more space, have POP3, and are still all free.
The implications of this robotic thingy (if someone finds a way to build it well) are bigger than just replacing CDRs with fresh ones...thing of being able to put all of your CDs(drivers, MP3s, etc) into your CD drive remotely !
I could use one of these for my Linux burner at home which is on DSL all the time...all my CDs available to me all the time !
We don't know his purpose ? Maybe CD duplication houses won't work for him. Besides, it would be fun if someone built it (mistakes and all) and I just copied it...I seriously need one for my Linux burner at home, I could do my burning stuff sitting at work.
I have 36, maybe more invites just sitting there. No one to send them to.
How did he escape getting on all the spam lists in seven years with an unmangled email address in the 199-byte static webpage ?

User-level authentication...all you need is a Radius server.

Slashdotted in 30 mins !
GPS receivers are passive receiving devices, just like FM/AM radios.
Hey, that worked great with Mozilla. Now, I wonder how to hack that, rename it and where to put it for Opera.
And this is your second post for this article ! :-)

Long lead times...unless you are burning a 1000+ copies, might not prove to be cheaper than an automated station.
