  15. Re:Good place to ask for help on Boot Camp Finally Supports Windows 7 On Macs · · Score: 1

If you are getting the 4mb error this is usually due to an old version of bootcamp in Leopard. If you are running Leopard you need at least boot camp 2.1 http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/application_updates/bootcampwindowsxpdriversupdate21.html .

Although not required you can install 2.2 http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/application_updates/bootcampdriversupdate22forwindows.html as well.

If you are running Snow Leopard then you might want to check out http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3841 and disabling this driver until you get SP's installed.

Then again all these problems could just be due to running SP0/1 .

  20. Re:He's an idiot on HP's Windows Bundle Trouble · · Score: 4, Insightful

The problem with an OS-free PC is that it will actually cost you more. The large PC manufacturers get Windows for very cheap, and then load it up with "value added" software, links, demos and other such great stuff. It turns out that by having Windows on the PC they are actually turning a profit.

You might not like paying for Windows in some way, but in effect it lowers the cost of your PC, odd as it may sound.

Either pay more (or at worst get no reduction in cost), or just nuke windows off the drive when you get it.

  21. As long as they.... on Canada's CD Tax Out of Hand? · · Score: 1

don't start charging tax on blank DVD's. A few years ago I would of ( and was ) more incensed with the CD tax, since I primarily used them for data backup. These days, with the price of DVD burners and media being so cheap I have bought exactly one 50 pack of CD's in the last six months.

My greatest worry is if they somehow manage to bring back the horrid mp3 player tax. That tax was the worst one. They were going to run into mp3 players with more tax in the price then the mp3 player was worth as the storage media incrased in sized, but the tax was not scaled to the price drop of the storage media.
