In Communicator, it had loaded 60K and STILL could not start to render.
Slashdot is showing the same symptoms.. some kind of stoopid HTML tricks that delay rendering while yer sposta sit there and carefully read and reread a banner ad.
The main things that distinguish the Pilot from WinCE are Graffiti and the Pilot's spartan interface. Those are precisely the two things I like most about the Pilot, and I'd like to see them on a zillion other devices, including phones for a start.
... but it's an important one. The key (IMHO) is that any view the cops have, ordinary citizens have too. A clickable city map showing where cameras are. Someone recently showed where all the camers were on a stretch of avenue in NYC; it was something like 17 cameras in three blocks ? These were mostly/entirely private cameras, but.. this idea of public accessibility to surveillance "data" could be extended to private cameras that have a view of public spaces, too... maybe...
The year 2000 should represent a chance to start off with a clean slate.
And instead it's got people's knickers in a twist.
I'd like to see how techies could conspire to reorganise things from the ground up. Sort of along the lines of Bruce Sterling's Manifesto of January 3, 2000 .

BTW nukes can give you 50,000 volts per meter. So a five inch bus run (12.7 cm) could give you a cool 6000-plus volts. That oughta fry most chips.
