Really, good on them for making unique identifiers for each copy. I really do applaud them for doing this, I know many Slashdotters will reply saying I'm some kinda freak and I hate open source or something (they'll find a way), but realistically stealing a video is stealing a video. Whether you jack it off the shelf or download it from the net, the fact is you have a copy of a movie which you didn't pay for and is meant to be bought.
I do hope that this will discourage people from uploading their screener copies to the net.
Regarding those missles, yes, India's missle is indeed faster, but the article states that it has a range of only 280km. That, compared to the American Tomahawk of anywhere between 1100km to 2500km, is just a drop in the bucket. The article states that had India been able to fire off some missles at the same time as the Americans that their chances of getting Bin Laden would have been greater. The problem is with a range of only 280km, they'd have to get pretty close to or within the country. With the Tomahawks extremely long range, the American's can fire from the Ocean without taking any land. Although its slower, the fact that it has between 4 and 9 times the range of the BrahMos, the Tomahawk would realistically 'get there sooner' because of its longer firing range in a real world situation.
Oh yes, I'm not American, I'm Canadian. This is an objective perspective.
I mean seriously, if you're carrying a recorder into a theater, you've obviously going to pirate this movie. The submitter gives the ridiculous and extreme example of one of those stupid video phones which don't have the bandwidth or anything to make a even half decent copy anyhow. To me, this is a good thing, people are blatantly trying to copy a movie in whatever way they can, and this seems like a real logical choice to me. Industry pressure from the MPAA? Yeah right, this is more like common sense. Good on California for taking a stand against piracy.
I'm absolutely flabbergasted by the huge holes that are left at the end of Revolutions.
One of the biggest complaints is, of course, the end. At the end of the movie, we see that everyone is still plugged into the Matrix, so nearly 99% of humanity is still trapped, we don't get to see released people really enjoying what they've won, instead we see the programs enjoying the end! What is this? At the end of the film, we have the Oracle, Architect, Seraph and that little kid enjoying this new 'peace', but that's not who we wanted to enjoy peace in the first place!
The holes that are left are not meant to be pondered, they're simply completely missing entirely.
The Twins? Nope, they just kinda went away.
The spoon he was given? No reason. Maybe it helped Neo psychologically, we don't know.
The 15 minute rave scene? Yeah, we're under attack, so lets party. MTV totally said it right on their parody. "There's a million machines coming to kill us, so we're going to party." Was there any significance to this scene in the end? Nope.
Neo and Trinity's sex scene? Perhaps used to make us feel like these two were in love, but otherwise no significance.
Near the end of the movie we're left with this huge Architect speech. Looking back, it doesn't even play a role in Revolutions. Does it really matter he's the sixth? Nope.
So how does Neo have powers in the real world? We're told it just kinda happened, a quick 2 liner by the Oracle.
That train station, did it even matter? It was just like this really stupid delay. There was indeed one cool part to that scene, where Neo tried to run out of it, and I felt like I was back in the Matrix world again, because the rules are being broken, but alas, that was it.
Interestingly, several points in the film we see Neo getting thrown up against a wall and you can see that its his stunt double. With such a significant CGI budget, please just mask the bloody face!
Does Persephone play a role? She states Trin is in love in Revolutions. Thanks. I needed that reminder because it wasn't already shoved down my throat.
Who is the mother of the matrix? Unless I'm not seeing something, no one. No one makes a clear indication who the heck the mother is! That entire ramble and revelation spoken to us was utterly pointless.
So in the end, lets take a look at what has been gained. Originally we had everyone trapped in the matrix. We have this place called Zion where the people who escaped live. At the end of Revolutions, everyone is still in the Matrix, and Zion, apparently, would still be the only place where the people who escaped live. The machines aren't going to attack Zion anymore, whoopee.
Being a big Matrix fan, I knew the producers had to close off several entire blocks of downtown Sydney for a day or so. Apparently it was the most expensive and elaborate piece of cinematography ever. Sooo...I honestly don't know where that scene was in Revolutions. I suspect it was the big fight between Neo and Smith at the end, but those are just buildings, really easy to make CGI out of them and look great. I was hoping to see some kind of amazing shot after everyone was freed and showing the world again in its beauty. All for naught. I heard there was a bus station bench in the set with the words "In memory of Thomas Anderson", I thought it would be really cool if the people of the Matrix learnt that it was Thomas that freed them, and thus the world after sorta regards him as this hero and his sacrifice to humanity could live on in the hearts of all people. But what are we left with? Nadda.
Why is there such a racial leaning in Zion? No reason given.
This entire thing about its a good thing Neo is still human? No reason, at no point does he ever even come close to being a machine.
Is the Counsel the 23 freed? Nope. That doesn't even play a role.
Counselor Hammods speech to Neo about machines helping us? Control? No reason.
Historic period in solar flares? Sorry, I might not be all that caught up on my solar flare monitoring, but how long have we been doing that exactly? It can't be more than in the last 50 years and considering the age of the subject in question, that's not even a drop in the bucket - its an atom in the bucket. Who knows? Perhaps this is a little more regular than we originally thought. We just started getting into this. I know if I had as much gas as the Sun I'd be doing a whole lot of belching too.
Look at this...it is obvious to anyone here that what SCO is doing is absolutely illegal. We're talking extortion, corporate fraud, etc etc. All signs point to guilty, but is anyone taking action? Is there any police force knocking on SCO's door? I mean, if this were a 'traditional' crime, we'd be at the stage now where they've robbed the Quickie Mart and are running down the streets. Where are the cops going after the guy?
America feels it needs to develop this new force to counter terrorism, whos largest success killed 3,000 people. What about companies like Enron, Worldcom and SCO who are destroying many more thousands of peoples lives on a regular basis? Where are the cops for that?! I believe america needs to develop an agency dedicated to taking out corporate powers who push around the citizens of america.
But will this ever happen? Not likely. Not while america has politicians who take generous gifts from corporations. Its not the politicians, therefore, who control the government, but the companies. Yet what was america founded on? Did corporations make the Consitution? Did corporations fight for independance? Its always been the people, and now the people are getting the shaft.
As long as it is legal for politicians to be bought out by companies, we will never see the end to things like SCO. We'll see more and more incidents of these corporate scams happening until _something_ happens. Someone has to step in with enough balls to say he/she isn't accepting corporate money, then that person also needs to gain enough popularity to win the vote. That's the only way we'll see the end to this nonsense.
It's sick, its disgusting, and in the end it'll end up destorying the values and beliefs which created america. They will have been sold off, one by one, until you no longer pledge alligence to the USA, but the MSUSA and live in the state of McDonalds on CitiBank Street.
If you're interested in contacting Adobe, here's a direct link to their Feature Request form. I suggest as many of us as possible to visit this page and let Adobe know there certainly is a demand for their product. We're talking 3 studios here, including Disney. Lets make some (positive) noise!
just read the veritest document myself. This guy did not show the complete picture at all. First, in favour of Apple, these tests were run on Mac OS X 10.2.7. I don't think this is the 64-bit kernel that can really take advantage of the G5. I'm not a mac head, but I'm guessing this is Smeagol?
A 64-bit processor being benchmarked against a 32-bit processor is obviously completely ridiculous and would only stand to add more FUD to the benchmarks, I'm glad they at the least shyed away from that.
Sure the special malloc library seems a bit unfair. But then again, do these tests really focus on memory allocation? I'd think they are limited by CPU power more than memory allocation. In any case, it'd be nice if we saw results without this library.
Now you're just turning an absolute naive and blind eye. Thats like saying we're benchmarking two cars against each other, but we upgraded the fuel injector in one of them. Does it really make a difference? Of course it does! Suddenly its not a controlled test, plus since when are any reliable benchmarks based on hypothesis? "We don't think it'll make much of a difference"? It doesn't matter.
For the 8300 they have no hyperthreading and a uniprocessor kernel. For the 650 they have no hyperthreading and an SMP kernel with two processors. The G5 system is run with two processors. It's unclear why they chose not to use hyperthreading on the rate test. It could be that hyperthreading actually reduced the scores of these tests. I'm no expert on the SPEC tests and hyperthreading, but what I do know is that hyperthreading is an intelligent technology. It can't always increase speed, it depends on what kind of code it's running. In the rate test it's possible that hyperthreading is unable to yeild any improvements, in which case the overhead of enabling hyperthreading may make the scores worse than without hyperthreading.
Somehow I don't think Apple was thinking "Oh wow, Hyperthreading really makes this CPU slow...lets not enable it so the competitions CPU looks better". What did you do with your brain? Flush it down the toilet?
Yeah, it was a very unfair test. Please try to look at things more objectively instead of blindly throwing yourself into Steve Job's arms.
But to be fair, Apple is advertising based on CPU speed. They claimed to be the worlds fastest desktop computer, a claim that cannot be made lightly, and they got bagged for it.
It'd be like McDonalds saying they have the best tasting burgers in the world. If someone disproved them though and McDonalds came back saying, "Oh, well the taste has never been the selling point for our burgers anyhow, its the price" is a moot point - they advertised it was the best tasting. I'm going to hold them to that.
Lets be a little honest with ourselves...the market for video games is dominated by males between the ages 17 - 24. We're not looking for Barbie: Dress House II, guys like us are after the rush, the fun, the quickies.
The truth is there _is_ innovation in these games, and quite a bit since, yes, they are limited to looking down the barrell of a gun. Look at Half-Life 2 with realistic facial algorims, amazing AI, incredible physics and voice acting. The original Half-Life made over $400 million in sales, so obviously something is working.
You're going to have to look deeper into the movie and stop turning the blind eye. There's standard dialog, yes, but there is much deeper theory behind the Matrix. I mean, the entire concept of the human race being enslaved and then people being brought out of it. Think about it. There's a million examples of deep theology in The Matrix, but you simply cannot be looking for the scarce casual dialog to prove it doesn't exist. Thats like looking right where you're standing, seeing no water, then assuming that because you see no water directly where you are, there is no water anywhere else in the world.
I have never yet met anyone that has ever used The Matrix as "proof" of the existance of God, more so as simply something to use metaphorically and as an analogy. No, God is not confirmed through a movie, that's proposterous. God is confirmed by the entire world's existance.
There are plenty of VHS to DVD companies out there, you just have to look for them. Using the search string VHS to DVD on Google, there were a couple companies that stood out:
"This would enable troops to see through sand storms and oil smoke of the kind currently hampering operations in the Gulf. I imagine one could also remove mountains to allow remote viewing of approaching territory"
Great, first we get wallhackers in Counterstrike, now the military...what's next?
"The people that they get much of their profits from are overclocking enthusiasts"? Did you just pull this one out of thin air? The people they get most their money from are people like Dell and Gateway that purchase these products in massive bulk. Computers like that don't get sold to overclocking monkeys since they like to build their own from scratch.
Think about what you said...it doesn't even begin to make any financial sense.
Note that the article states Toby might not be up to performing "difficult" stunts - which is just fine. We're not going to be able to tell if that's Toby or someone else under that suite with the mask on. Realistically, his back problems, which by the way are in "in the final stages of healing" according to the article, should not pose such a threat as to completely disabling him from acting altogether. If you want to make a bet, Toby is going to be in the sequel.
It's called feeling a sense of guilt. This program is based on the presupposition that people want to do good, and obviously pornography is a very bad thing for the mind.
You have psycological problems if you can look at orgies, women getting abused and used, and so on, without any sense of guilt.
"Healthy adults take responsibility for their own actions and act accordingly". Ha! That's probably the worst assumption I've ever heard of in my life! Lets take a look...Bill Gates, Hitler, Stalin, George Bush, that WorldCom CEO, all the people at Enron that shreaded paper...hm...about the rest of humanity? Very few people take responsibility. You really need a reality check.
I saw this headline and figured it had something to do with pornography

The release date of April 22 was released a long time ago
(ie: January 21, 2003, just incase you didn't get the picture)

NVidia still offers the best value out there for mainstream users in the GeForce 4 Ti4200
Then you obviously haven't heard of ATI's Radeon 9000 Pro which performs exactly like a GeForce Ti4200 but is actually lower in price.
We all know John makes engines for the future, but I think he's really outdoing himself this time...
