    But "TWOK"? Who uses "TWOK"? Not many people it would seem, if Google is correct - the ten most popular uses of "TWOK" include only two Star Trek related references, ranked seventh and tenth.

    You should have searched Google Groups. Or ignored people called "Twok" or who use "TwoK" instead of "2K".

    Sure. But they don't have oncoming traffic, intersections, kids crossing the street etc.

    IOW you are not alone with a few dozen experienced drivers on your street when you're car-phoning. And I also doubt you have anywhere near the reflexes of a race driver.

    You are right, it should be legal to use a cell phone while driving.

    And it should be legal to shoot anybody that does. Or uses a cell phone in public, talking loud. Or have it ring on extra loud in theaters and the like.

    The Levitation System

    There have been experiments with planes whose hull (via a film) have a texture like shark's skin (wich is full of tiny teeth). It resulted in a couple of percent less fuel usage.

    Well, us Mac enthusiasts don't know how Apple customer support is, because we never needed them, everything works perfect from the start. But we always give it a 10 anyway, just to mess those reports up ;-)

    They simply use whatever works at the time.

    Or rather, they use what doesn't work at the time, and buy from some other maker in the hope that that will work.

    PPC has been designed from the start to have both 32 and 64 bit implementations. And IBM does consider Power4 to be a PPC chip.

    What Heise got on them is probably what you and I can expect when we compile our programs.

    Depends on the compilers used.

    One might also note that, despite Apple's constant claims about how powerful the G4 is, they have never submitted a SPEC benchmark result for the chip themselves.

    One might also note that for years SPEC simply didn't run on Macs (not even running any *NIX). It may still not work too well on OS X (or Linux PPC).

    I think the PPC is a dead end for Apple. Lack of a 64bit migration path is a problem.

    PPC has been designed from the start to have both 32 and 64 bit implementations. And IBM does consider Power4 to be a PPC chip.

    Intel's Itanium doesn't need to fear comparison architecture-wise with PPC either.

    If you don't mind only being able to use one and only one compiler. At least if you want any speed.

    Well, that's what SPEC is supposed to be about. But as long as a 1 GHz P3 is 30% (or more) faster than a 1GHz P3 depending on the compiler used...
