They give it away for free - it can't be any good, right?
Agreed... a lot of businesses won't use free stuff because, if it breaks, who can they blame and order to fix it? At least with paid support you get a solution, with free software however, you're most likely to get "fix it yourself or wait for it to be fixed"
I'm all for Open Source, but I can see why some won't embrace it.
When the latest version of Ubuntu came out, I attempted to upgrade to it but my laptop froze during the install. I reluctantly had to reinstall FC5.
While I don't think Fedora is a bad distro, I see that FC6 due for release soon (i.e. in under a year), which will mean more upgrading (downloading ISOs) to keep up to date. I'd rather go for a distro that doesn't have quite such an aggressive turnover in major versions, or at least makes the upgrade less of a chore (apt dist-upgrade).
On a side note, has anyone managed to successfully install Ubuntu on a Toshiba M70 Satellite?
Isn't the PlayStation 3 essentially going to decide the "better" format? If* the PS3 sells in large volumes, then that means that Blue Ray will be de facto High Definition format?
I don't know about anyone else, but somedays you love the project you're working on and other days you wish it would burn down, fall over and sink into the swamp.
When the monthly iPod updates stopped I started to get worried that Apple had run out of ideas. It's good to see that their back to their old tricks of updating the iPod at a ferorious pace...
DL tracks from CDs I own all the time, because it's easier than finding the CD
Wouldn't it be better to get all your CDs, rip them onto your computer in the format and bit rate you want, rather than downloading a version of P2P which is a heavily compressed casette tape recording of a song played on the radio?
I used to use P2P to download, but gave up when the bit rate said 192kbs and it was obviously 64kbs re-encoded at 192kbs...
If muggers knew they could get a cap in their ass, they'd think twice before committing these dastardly deeds.
No they wouldn't. You see, over here (UK) we have a bill called the Human Rights Act. What it boils down to is that if you commit a crime then you can avoid jail because it's dangerous and infringes on your Human Rights.
This also means that you could sue the police for shooting you.
It's not so much the fault of the iPod, but rather the iPod's distinctive white headphones. If you're walking around with black headphones then chances are that you haven't got an iPod but rather some poor quality* DAP which isn't worth trying to steal.
Either that or you're listening to music on your phone and then you'd get mugged for that anyway...
I think the biggest problem I had one day was when I was trying to remove a file in Linux who's first character was -
rm and mv kept complaining that the character after the switch wasn't valid and eventually I had to navigate to the file in X and delete its icon which did the trick.
Not a particularly exciting story, but an interesting one none the less.
Here's the break down:

I'm here all night, try the veal.
It's all well and good people saying the correct date format is yyyy-mm-dd, but how do people actually pronounce it?
I for one certainly don't say it's 2006, August the 2nd. I'd either say it's 2nd August 2006 or August 2nd 2006...

Oh, on a side note:
PlayStation 3 $400
Standalone Blue Ray player > $600*
I know which one I'd buy...
*apparently

Bad luck Amazon!
Or simply a picture of a dancing monkey?
Or the one that bangs the cymbals together!
I must be the champion of innovation
Isn't that spelt
I must wait for someone to do something clever and then rip it off

I don't understand what you're complaining about.

Slashdotted
This is what happens to a site when Slashdot links to it on their front page.
The irony of course is that no one would be able to read it when a Slashdotting occurs...
Is this anything other than an attempt to dis Windows for no other reason than 'Because'?
Nope.
HTH.
