Those who use IE are probably those who have no reason to switch browsers, and those who visit sites that are "optimized" for IE. There are also those that don't want to use Opera because it has a huge ad banner, and don't want to pay to have it taken away or use an illegal serial number. Let's not forget those who use AOL.:P
What would be funny about that? Nowhere have I attacked Microsoft, Windows, or people who support them. I find it funny how those who don't attack Microsoft but criticize those who attack Microsoft are suddenly flamers, and I have an elitist attitude?
I dont like microsoft, that doesnt mean that i have to hate windows
That's true. I shouldn't have assumed that you didn't like products of Microsoft just because you don't like the company.
If linux was backwards compatible with win32 apps i wouldnt have a need for this windows box sitting next to me now would I?
If you really need to use those specific win32 apps (i.e. for work or because of hardware problems) and cannot use alternatives, then I'll agree that you need it. Otherwise...
the only people i dispise more than the nitpicking majority are those who are on high horses flaunting linux like a weapon.
I do not act all high and mighty because I use Linux. I simply cannot stand those who always badmouth Microsoft and their products yet still use Microsoft products. Since you aren't one of those people though, I have no beef with you.
And I've always thought that the first programmers were all men. I do wonder: is there is a higher percentage of female programmers today or has it fallen in time?
As for those who are belittling her use of mnemonics, you shouldn't take it for granted. Imagine having to type out 'file system consistency checker' instead of fsck among other commands.
It's nice to browse through the archives and read my various posts over the years. How I've grown.:)
It should be noted that not all groups are archived. I recently checked out one of my favorites and after the name of it, it said (This group is no longer archived). That's a shame, because I would love to read the older stories of alt.sex.stories.
I wish that one can access the Google Groups through a news reader such as Pan, because I really don't like the interface Google provides, and one reallly can't change any of their account settings for posting. I was hoping these things would be fixed in beta, but I guess it's OK as it is.
Ahhh, my small-minded friend, you seem to be convienently forgetting that a goof majority software is written for M$'s junk...
If you actually used Linux, you would have realized that there are plenty of choices for Linux users. Tons of GUIs, media players, office suites, etc. Linux only lacks some high quality games. If you'd rather stick with MS Internet Explorer and MS Office though, then I guess Linux is not for you.
So, my point is, either I go out and buy a new cam, or I run a Winodoze box. Those are my choices (or figure out were the kernel patch is...).
Hardware support is still an area in which Linux is lacking, but if you are sure there's a patch to make your webcam work, all you have to do is obtain the patch, apply it, etc. but then you wouldn't have any excuse to use Windows anymore, except admitting that you do enjoy it.
I use Windoze because have to. I use Linux because I want to.
Only those who need Windows for work-related activities that they can't do on Linux actually have to use Windows. Everybody else who claims they have to use Windows are lying and simply want to pretend to be anti-MS Linux users without applying the actual effort to be one.
I find it funny that many of the people who are against Microsoft still have Windows on their systems (while trying to make some pathetic excuse for having it installed). Methinks that these people are closet MS supporters.
In this day and age, nobody who hates Microsoft has any excuse to be using Windows except because they really don't hate Windows and are only pretending to because they want to be a rebel.
On another note, just because someone doesn't use the Explorer shell does not mean they aren't supporting Windows, because under that GUI is still Windows. They are still using Windows products, which companies will see as evidence that Windows is as strong as ever, which will give them less of a reason to support Linux and other operating systems.
Wouldn't it be possible to sign the RPMs and make an official list of RPMS posted everywhere or even made into the programs so that it will warn people if an RPM might be bad?
That's true. There will always be people running their own server, but what about the large ones with thousands of people?
As for Ascii art, it'll always exist on Slashdot. Just browse at -1.:)
If more large IRC servers shut down, I believe that other IRC servers, charging for use, would come into existence to fill the void left by the loss of EFnet and the like. It's happening everywhere else on the Internet, which is why it seems quite possible.
It is a shame. I'd recommend somebody DoS'ing the DoS'ers, but when one thinks about it, it might be futile because it seems that the people who would DoS a server are against technology, which is why they use it in malicious ways in their effort to drive people away from it.
Besides, a stoning might work better.:)
My old Nintendo won't play Luigi's Manson, and my old Playstation won't play the Playstation 2 games, and don't get me started on not being able to play Gameboy Advance games on my original Game Boy.

I'd describe it as a bizarre juxtaposition of karma whoring and karma suicide. I think I'm starting a trend though.
By the time Windows 2000 becomes obsolete, Linux could gain enough popularity that people can avoid product activation altogether. Companies like Opera and Real are now supporting Linux shows that it's gaining momentum now, and the fact anti-virus companies are pretending Linux will soon become a virus target shows that Linux being on the desktop is very real.
The major problem with products like these is the battery life is going to suck royally. My iPaq uses a high end Lithium Polymer battery, and I still only get about 8 hours of battery life... and that's not even doing something too intensive like playing mp3s or watching movies.
Can you imagine the processor needed to decode mpeg4 on the fly? Can you imagine the processor needed to RECORD mpeg4 on the fly? Can you imagine how long this processor will run on 4 Rechargable NiMH AA batteries?
This sounds like a fun device for those plane rides. I would think that the GameCube and the LCD screen don't put out enough RF to really interfere with the plane. I could get three hours of Rogue Squadron or Super Smash Brothers lovin'! That would make the ride THAT much more bearable. Of course, you'd also have about a dozen little kids clamoring all over your seat trying to play. You could then charge admission or something and make back your plane fare.:)

The problem is that the apps that people use that need broadband are being killed, such as napster and other file sharing. Streaming video still works on a modem because noone has done the streaming movie (as in video rental store) idea yet which would certainly require broadband even with better technology. I'd say that 75% at least of people using the internet are perfectly happy with their 5k per second max bandwidth which is more than enough for email, web browsing and chat. Again, this just hurts the rest of us who would like to be able to go faster because we understand (and would actually utilize) the potential.

It doesn't have binary files on there. The only pr0n (why not just spell it as porn?) they have on there is erotic literature.
