Face it, the record execs will never admit that in order to allow free use of their product as guaranteed by the Constitution, piracy will always be easy. That will _never_ change, but the Constitution might (or as is usually the case, it's just ignored).

The problem with choice is choice is not the UNIX way. The UNIX way is about a thousand small apps that do separate things rather than one large app that does everything. The UNIX way is about a command-line interface, not a GUI (Gay User Interface).

The writings on this site from the FAQ to this story easily beat the best of the material written by the regulars on that newsgroup.

If you can't take criticism of your government then I suggest you lock yourself in your basement and never leave again. Big BIG news flash for you : not only are lots of people criticising the governments of China, SAudi Arabia and the Taliban, there are also lots of people criticising the governments of France, the UK, Canada, Australia.... doubtless the Vatican too.

Maybe it's only me, but I don't see this "school" giving real hackers a good name.If anything, it'll validate the notion that hackers are malicious losers.
On another note, if this school is shut down, I am sure that the readers of Slashdot won't mind, while if it was in America and was shut down, people would be crying: "America is evil! Burn it! Save the Taliban!" Seriously, people would be taken more seriously if they didn't act as if America was the evil Babylon while condoning the governments of China, Cuba, Saudi Arabia, and of course, the Taliban.

Like many others have already said, I see no point in being at one of these. Sure, you get to meet people you've only seen on the net, but only the nerdy boys that nobody in their right mind would want to meet anyway.
The Dreamcast truly is a great system, but I think the problem with people is that they didn't trust Sega anymore. For awhile, Sega released console after console (Sega CD, 32x, Saturn) and abandoned them rather quickly. Perhaps if Sega was as persistent as Nintendo was with the original Gameboy, more people would have bought a Dreamcast.

I completely agree. Everybody bitching in here will probably buy Civ3, if they haven't already. It's like with the RIAA. People will bitch about them while still using their products. The best thing one could do to show disapproval is a true boycott. There are many other great games out there.
I disagree that people are forced to upgrade in Linux. Unless the schools want to remain on the bleeding edge of technology, I think they would be content with the programs they have that although old, would be sufficient for their usage. If schools used Debian and Potato was too outdated, they could stick with one version of Woody for awhile until that Woody can no longer stand, prompting them to upgrade to the next testing install of Debian. It might have some problems, but I'm sure it'd still be better than Windows.:P
