BTW the wife which is a most serious genealogist ( 55000 people in her tree ) and has documents and photos or paintings for most of them received a lot of help from the LDS centers.Whether you share their ideals and ideas is besides the point.Their research units are fantastic we have been to 2. They welcome genealogists from all over and from all confessions. And before you ask i'm a an atheist without ties to LDS.
Was irc'ing and jokingly said to a friend. All the small planes the FAA dont know zit about.. think of them all.. Several thousands of them. All without security.. send a few thousand flying in the morning and use them all as flying bombs. Imagine the nightmare . Low flying airplanes loaded with explosives falling out of the skies by the thousands. Now THAT is scary. Im not scared by the large planes full of people. Im concerned by all those thousands of private planes the FAA dont know zit about and that can suddenly be used as missiles.
seek to replace them with more open forms of governance.... hmmm good idea.. maybe we should. I was thinking of a new form of government where elected officials have no right to vote on laws , rules , etc.. but where the citizen , through the net , would be asked to vote on the projects. I guess im not the only one.
Well well.. like every day now , we hear new idiocies coming out the US government. While everyone takes a look at the cables , the USG , is saying , still classified and their employes and people that want a job with the USG can't read them.. LOL That was the funny part of the post.
The multiplication by the hundreds of mirrors ( list at cryptome is unbeleivably extensive ) the downloading of insurance files and the mirroring of the old site with 11000 or so document is going on strong. I know , i got them all. In fact if anything good is coming out of this is the involvement of the population in politics. It's waking up . We were used to as citizens to see through a mesh fence , where we the casual observers see only through one small square totally unaware of the bigger picture. Now we're getting sights of more and more of those squares and can see a way better image. The more we see , the more we want to see. It's normal . We are thirsty for understanding and definitely want to see actions being taken or want to take action by ourselves. We dont need big government to tell us " you dont need to know what we do on your behalf " that's bullshit. The Government must be accountable to the people.Otherwise there is no democracy. Just disguised dictatorship. What we see , what we hear is changing people. We're for the publication or we're against. But i don't know of anyone who is well educated that says otherwise than it's a good thing.Cause frankly , it can't be. If there hadn't been leaks , the photos of torture that we saw from Irak and Guantanamo Bay and other places , the USA would still be torturing detainees. If there hadn't been leaks and the system would be air tight , a lot of criminal activity would still go on in the USG and it's arms. Oh granted , it still goes on, but as the public gets better and better informed , those activities are becoming less and less likely to happen. Accountability saved a many detainee from being tortured , against conventions the US signed btw.
Like i saw on twitter a short while ago :
" It's not wrong to lie, cheat, steal, corrupt, and torture. It's wrong to let people know about it."
Go multiply the mirrors the sites and start some of your own in your countries . Go on and multiply. Read what they dont want you to.Seek knowledge and enlightenment. Information and ideas need to be free. Let the information be free so that we may one day , in a distant future , live in peace. Let those who try to convince you that the right thing to be is an ignorant make their calls without echos. Let their voices die down in the void of mediocrity of cheats and liars. They want to cheat you of your right to know.Cheat you of the accountability the government has to be kept under. Leave them shout in anger without replies. Remember : Never argue with an imbecile , they bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.
Long live free information. This is the guiding light. This is the new age. Jump on the bandwagon or stay behind . It's your choice.
Maybe the US don't want to show how crooked they are but we from outside have more than a right to know. It's not OUR problem it's the problem of the Bush era and it's legacy. Time to have the straight dope from the US , not incessant lies and deceit. We're supposed to be allies but you guys behave like we're the enemies. Thank goodness Wikileaks is letting us know how crooked , deceitfull and totally out of line the US has became since 9/11
Don't cry for the US.. it's just fair return for all they did and do.
who says anything about train tracks ? i meant a track engineered for the electrical vehicles and by itself in the devider area between the traffic lanes on wither side.id never put a car on railroad tracks:) well.. just let imagination run, we have plenty of it, then someone will get in here , say " hey they got a good idea " and like Tanberg did , steal the project , patent it and laugh at us ; )
for long distance travel : think about an electrified track of some sort and automatic guidance That way there's no real limit to the distance and you can recharge batteries as you go. .
Might be old.. but if you do have files that need to stay private , can't one use steganography and use carrier files ? Or is that so old and broken one cant even hide the fact they got files they want to keep private and simply show a good old style photo album or music collection ?
There used to be a time where even radio dj's told us " start the tape recorder, this is awesome " Well in the digital age and using computers we kind of have a problem . Streamripper is one solution and it works great. You just record a radio station. At the end of the day you get hundreds of recordings and though the transition cuts aren't perfect we still get acceptable results. What's this got to do with piracy ? First off , if we have this ability to record on the air broadcasts , we need it's digital equivalent. Fair use is fair use and if recording a broadcaster is ok , so is the internet radio stations. The use of a network connection or an antenna dosen't change the facts , There is fair use. Now , the technology behind streamripper and other applications to record what we listen to is a bit too harsh for the casual listener , many people don't have a clue how to do this.So here comes the file sharing sites.People get songs there because they don't have a clue how to record their internet radio stations and turn to sharing software to do so. Not everyone's a criminal trying to kill the majors.( They do a hell of a job themselves by publishing crap and attacking everyone.) Just simple folks that dont understand technology and that dont know how to do this legally.Sounds about right for a single Mom dosent it ?
It is already hellish ! We got the highest telecom rates in the world. They squeeze us like lemons and there's f'all we can do about it. Same with cell , same with phone. There is no REAL competition and we pay through the nose for an inferior product.
They admit publicly to break the Patriot act willingly. That is a stupid move on their part. Second the vigilante part : Call the justice department in masses and ask to deposit a complaint against them.Heck.. they are probably the types that would sue their own moms. Again find time to write the Justice department. The EFF would certainly like to look into this. Oh.. sending faxes is also nice:)
Still works in Canada. http://montreal.fr.craigslist.ca/search/ers/?query=w4m It's well known we are way more tolerant in canada and dont mind.Oldest job in the world and there's no pretending it dont exist or that it can be eradicated,it cant.it's just human.Hiding it wont make it go away , it will simply find itself somewhere else where it will thrive just as much as it did before cause it's human.. Geeze catch up with the 21 century already will ya ?:)
There is an alternative to all this that's more or less firmly in the mind of everyone. When i buy a product , for example machinery , tools, things that are definitely going to be practical and of use for a long time and there is a small indication like a few patent numbers , what it tells me is this , we have an original product and not just a copy or a look-alike it's the real thing. In a way when we see those it simply means it's an original. No other is done like this.We often see those stickers on equipment ages old. Even if the patent is now expired, it's still the machine that introduced the technology behind the patent. Therefore even if it IS expired , i don't see why the reference to the patent describing the technology should go.Protection or not.The Patent is still the place where the information is about what device introduced which technology advance. Now that some low life lawyer hounds companies with old patents that might be totally obsolete tech and wants 250 bucks for the patent sticker still being there 75 years on a machine run that still lasts is just the proof that Dick Cheney had the right idea when he shot ( of course totally unintentionally ) his lawyer buddy:)
Just the same old lawyer bullcrap that leads nowhere but expose the ridicule of the American law and patent / copyrights system.
That's how they start the game of false accusations. There will be a next time and other accusations but with carefully planted evidence to point towards some heinous sex crime and all evidence ( including DNA ) will be pointing to him. think they aint able to ? they did get JFK.. think they cant get to him ? LOL
Cryptome is publishing a Chinese document detailing use of the internet in their country. http://cryptome.org/0001/cn-internet.htm chapter 3 " Guaranteeing Citizens Freedom Of Speech on the Internet " is hilarious:) That's an official position paper that outlines the government position.A good read.
Really funny excerpt : The Constitution of the People's Republic of China confers on Chinese citizens the right to free speech. With their right to freedom of speech on the Internet protected by the law, they can voice their opinions in various ways on the Internet.
It's a good thing. period. It will keep gullible people away from his disinformation. Biased and misleading info should be kept from view and asking such a high price to access it guarantees lower readership , hence , people will turn to real information and trustworthy outlets and the world will be better for it. Did i just call Murdoch's publications biased and misleading ? You bet I suggest all the republicans owning media should in fact charge even more so's to keep the american citizens away from that disinformation garbage. Limbaugh should also charge 100 bucks a day for his broadcasts. Good riddance.
CNCP Telecom ( at least them.. certainly others too ) used telephone line conditioners. Their role was to boost the high frequencies so's you would get more bandwidth specially in places where the telephone lines were a bit below spec or borderline or too long.Im surprised noone seems to have noted their absence.. guess you were all skipping class that day:)
Look 5 years ago indeed , in a gnome devel mailing list , we were a bunch to comment on that and a few others.. like the dual mode in other file browsers at the time where we have two panes to work with. Well.. lo and behold . a devel asked me why one would use a dual pane file manager. I gave up on it at that point. I suspect the corporates running the Gnome Foundation have a lot to do with most the bad design decisions and the stubbornness at making Gnome bad in general. As far as im concerned.. if it takes 5 years to change a bad default.. by 2020 we should perhaps have a delete command by default too:) Im cynical yes. But i loved gnome till 1.4 at 2.0 they hosed everything that was truly good about it and made it into the lesser desktop. A shame.
Herge , author of Tintin wrote a pair of books called " Objectif Lune " and " On a marche sur la Lune about 50 years ago.In the second book there is a fantastic scene where in orger to get his dog Milou back from a cave , Tintin and the Captain go in and Tintin slides down a slope made out of ice simply declaring that it was proof that at some point the Moon had water. More recently we had theories abounding that the moon could have had water before it hit Earth. All the same.. this is a great experiment and a great success
BTW in the first book , they show blueprints for their rocket to the moon. Details are quite fantastic , but for one.. there's no toilets:)
If you're lucky and can actually find it , QNX had a whole distro on a floppy. It was intended as a demo , but had full features like file browsing and some net. Im just as eager to find out as you:)
Want one ? The very serious " The Amateur Scientist " column in Scientific American in the early 70's had detailed plans on how to make an electron microscope. A do it yourself project. With a teacher , we had built one of them and it turned out very interresting images. Just a thought.
First.. if you repair pc's on any kind of basis i suggest you make a test jig. you get a flat surface and fix a working mobo/cpu and 2 power supplies.Make a second space for the mobo to be tested Have a screen keyboard and mouse at the station That will help you trermendously as you can just move the parts about , for most everything but the cpu/mobo fault isolation it makes it a breeze.
But that's where we stop. When you are hit with a fault of the mobo or cpu the only valid suggestion nowadays is to replace both.
You may like to know what's broken , but that's pointless as you need to change both the cpu and the motherboard , and i explain myself.
You have no way of knowing which caused which to fail. The only valid fix is to replace them both.If you plug in a new cpu in a bad mobo and blow the new cpu you're no better off and lost a cpu.If the cpu is at cause and caused the mobo to fail , well it's no better fix here either cause you damaged the mobo.
No . i strongly beleive there's no point in trying to find out but satisfy your natural and beleive me, mutual curiosity.
