It kinda looks like we all see it the same way, i.e. - this guy just "called the RIAA's bluff".

So, now the RIAA wants permission to search for the evidence the clearly never had in the first place. Alright, my question is, can this guy go back to the judge with "Given that I was summoned to appear here on the pretext of compelling evidence that we now know the RIAA does not posses, and given that I am not prepared to waive my right to a speedy trial while they are given additional time to find this evidence, can we just dismiss this and all go home?"

Also, can I counter-sue for lost time, lost wages, added stress, etc.?

but, of course, IANAL (besides being ANAL, I'm not a lawyer either ;))

Effective immediately, Verizon Online is dropping its previously announced plans to impose a DSL Supplier Surcharge. We are eliminating this surcharge in response to customer concerns. The supplier surcharge has not been included in customer bills, with the exception of a small number of customers who bill their Verizon Online charges to a credit card or receive a direct invoice from Verizon Online. Some of these customers may have already been billed for one month of the supplier surcharge. They will automatically receive a credit on a future bill.

Furthermore, I recall the debates between Reagan and Carter, the whole thing about Reagan's team obtaining Carter's notes. Carter took a beating during that debate as I recall, he was facing a professional actor with prior access to all his notes.

But what really got me, was how the Republican party seemed to almost gloat about it. Say what you will about Carter's presidency, but he was an honest, decent man - maybe the only president in my memory that I truly admired. Certainly, he is the best ex-president we've ever had. This, coupled with the Republican's un-apologetic behaviour in the matter would taint my opinion of the GOP for many years.

Today, the parties aren't the same as they used to be, but this event probably has a lot to do with why I am an independant even today.
