  1. Re:It takes more than just a good director... on Joss Whedon to Write/Direct Wonder Woman · · Score: 1

I think if you compare the first seasons of both Buffy and Angel to Firefly, I think you'll find that Firefly had a lot more potential. As it stands, it's still one of the best TV shows I've seen in a while.

  6. Mystery Science Theater to the Rescue on Naming Your Character In RPGs? · · Score: 1

I always used to use stupid, boring names, mostly out of an eagerness to start the game. But then I saw an episode of MST3K, SPACE MUTINY ( Link1 and Link2 ).

Mike and bots started making fun of the buffed-up hero by calling him names like Hulk HunkMeat and Slab HardCheese. Very funny.

Ever since, I've used that formula. Current Diablo character: Meat Doomslab.

  7. This is one for the lawyers to decide on Penny Arcade vs. American Greetings Revisited · · Score: -1, Redundant

The parody was not of Strawberry Shortcake, but of American McGee. SS was used in the parody but not the target of it.

  12. Not Claymation on Peter Jackson remaking King Kong · · Score: 1

Actually, if I remember correctly, the original model of King Kong was made of rubber, wire and (rabbit?) fur.

So, it would be stop-motion animation, rather claymation.

Although there does appear to be a French connection, Wensleydale appears to be an English product. I could be wrong, though.

  14. Old 486 on Family Tech Support · · Score: 1

My mom asked me what to do with her old 486 now that she had the "new" computer (my old P120). She sounded sad when I told her to just throw it away. "Are you sure?" she asked me.

I'm sure it's still sitting in her closet collecting dust.

  15. This book was a pleasure to read on The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay · · Score: 1

And not just because of the subject matter. Chabon is an amazing writer and I often found myself re-reading passages just because they were so beautifully written.

  16. Re:Old on 25 Best Linux Games · · Score: 1

I think you took my comment a bit too literally. But to clarify using one of my examples, I played Civ 2 right up the moment Civ 3 was released. I expect to continue playing Civ 3 until the next one is released.

  17. Re:Old on 25 Best Linux Games · · Score: 5, Insightful

Just because a game is old doesn't make it bad. In my opinion, a game that can withstand the test of time (such a SimCity or Civ) is worth a hundred new games, in my opinion.

  18. No Sims Online? Not missing much... on 25 Best Linux Games · · Score: 0, Funny

That game is just plain boring. Maybe if Maxis had finished it before releasing it, it'd be more fun to play.

But... maybe by the time they release a Linux version, it *will* be finished.

Were you asleep during the last presidential election? I hate to burst your bubble, but this is only gonna get worse.

  20. Re:Life in Hell online? on Matt Groening on Internet and Cartoons · · Score: 1

If you think Lynda Barry's goal is just to be funny, then I suspect you're not very familiar with her work. Her art is not just another comic strip, which is partly why so many people don't like it. They expect it to be funny and find it uncomfortable instead.

  21. Problem Solving Skills on How Would You Improve Today's Debugging Tools? · · Score: 2, Interesting

Debugging is essentially problem solving and if you don't have well developed skills doing that, then it's not going to be very easy to do. However, every person thinks differently and hence approaches to problem solving varies. It seems to me that although computers can help narrow down the scope of this issue, in the end, it's the brain that is the most powerful tool.

Remember those high school days of comparing the green text on your TRS-80 monitor to the print in your Softside magazine. Now that was fun... har har.

  22. Along the same lines as serialized books on 1660 Diary Becomes 2003 Weblog · · Score: 3, Interesting

I've seen several sites that do this kind of thing, but usually via email instead of a blog. Every week a new chapter of a public domain book is sent to subscribers.

It'd also be interesting to see other famous diaries given this treatment. Think Anne Frank, or Anais Nin. However, in the later case, the blog's past entries would have to be heavily revised every once in a while .
