As soon as he made that comment, his credibility was instantly damaged, in my opinion. Making broad generalizations like that does nothing but make you sound like you don't have much of a clue about anything.
I've come to rely on Amazon.com not only for good deals, but also for basic product information. They carry such a wide range of items and have detailed information about everything.
I also admit I take the product reviews very seriously when I am going to buy something, especially if it's not cheap. I do this even if I don't plan on buying it from Amazon.
I doubt I am the only person like this. It would seem only logical that companies would do anything they can to get favorable reviews about their products on Amazon.
I guess you just have to read as many of the reviews as possible and make a judgement call. I do tend to look for negative reviews as they're definitely not paid for! However, those also must be taken with a grain of salt.
Yes, I believe you're thinking of Michaelangelo. I just visited Italy this summer and all of M.'s women are as you described. Muscular with breasts as an afterthought.
I'm not sure if they still do it, but Quicken used to come preinstalled on many OEM computers. Tucked away in one of the subfolders were the install files for Quicken Deluxe, which you could use if you purchased it.
Seems like a very similar situation.
Of course, Intuit didn't disable it if you were late on a payment, so maybe the analogy isn't perfect...
I read the books a while ago and had forgotten most of the storyline and I'm glad I waited to re-read the books until after the film came out.
Last year, I re-read the first Harry Potter book right before seeing the film and I have to say it ruined the film for me. I was so aware of every little change and I found it hard to see the movie as a separate entity.
After re-reading FOTR, I can say that the omissions from the Galadrial storyline alone would have frustrated me while watching the film.
I bought the Theatrical Release and Extended versions and don't regret it. Although the original is, IMHO, a superior film, the extras on the Extended version are just insane. The documentaries are about 6 hours total and they actually work well together. I've watched the first extra disc and I think that disc alone was worth the price of the set.
Yes, I bought into the marketing, but for $25 (minue free movie ticket), you won't hear my complaining.
I was impressed with the pass/ticket enclosed in the DVD set. It's not just some "Get in Free" coupon, but a document sort of like a check. I'm assuming that those "NO PASSES" rules that many theaters have will not apply to this. Guess I'll find out today when I go and prepurchase the ticket.
I found Steel Beach unlike anything he had ever written. While reading it, I felt like it was a pretty dry and not-so-good book. But after the story's climax, I found I was quite invested in the characters and was very satisfied with the book.
But you are right. The Persistence of Vision, an early collection of his short stories, is still one of my most treasured books.
He wrote most of his good stuff in the late 70s/early 80s, then stopped writing for about a decade.
Although he's best known for his Gaea Trilogy (Titan, Wizard, Demon), I don't think it's his best stuff. His short stories, to me, are the best. Unfortunately, most of them are out of print but can be found with some effort.
I do believe that his novel, The Ophiuchi Hotline, which takes place in the same world as his short stories, is easily found and is a great introduction.
The 26-year-old man from Hengelo detained on Friday afternoon has confessed that he also started a fire on the grounds of the University of Twente on Wednesday morning 20 November 2002. In this fire two wings of one of the buildings on the grounds were completely destroyed and damages caused of between 40 and 50 million euro.
The 26-year old was detained Friday afternoon after witnesses had observed the start of a small fire in another building. On the directions of these witnesses the 26-year old could then be detained. On the how and why of the arson on the 20th no further announcements can be made at this moment. The suspect will be undergo further questioning on this.
We can announce that the 26-year old is an employee of the University of Twente. The University staff has been informed of his confession by now. He will be brought before the magistrate in Almelo today.
At first glance, this appears to be a pretty useless thing; more of a play toy than anything else.
However, I imagine there are quite a few applications for which this would be a godsend. One application might be the ability to make scale drawings out in the field.
It seems to be a sibling to those digital whiteboards. THOSE were something very cool as well, but you don't see them used much. But again, I'm sure there are people out there who cannot live without them.
In other words, not a killer device, but it has its uses.
I suspect you've never listened to any of Joni Mitchell's album. However, I do suspect you've listened to a great deal of musicians who have been greatly influenced by her. Even if you don't know it.
Give her a try, you might be surprised. And inspired to eat your words.
You CD collection must be a real gem.
John Varley explored this in his novels as well

He has one hell of an imagination and I highly recommend him.
They, after getting approval from the Board of Directors (who don't want to appear as being weak on PR agencies), will launch a full-scale invasion of the firm. Unfortunately, while appearing effective, the woman will escape and her whereabouts will be unknown.
The company will set up a puppet CEO and all will live happily ever after.
I served in the Peace Corps in the mid-90s. Although I do admit these are extraordinarily dangerous times, there were plenty of dangers in the world during that time as well. In addition, I recently spent two years traveling all over kingdom come. There were lots of dangers, but what I gained by traveling far outweighed the risks involved.
Upon returning home to the US after Peace Corps, I never felt more unsafe in my entire life. In Cameroon, my host country, my neighbors looked out for me. If something bad was going to happen it would most likely be someone pointing a gun at me and taking my money. If you did what was asked, then you were OK. They weren't doing it for kicks.
In the US, my chances of dying in a car crash were much higher compared to the chances of that happening in Cameroon. Or someone might break into my house and shoot me just for the hell of it... etc. etc. Have you been reading the papers lately???
These times *are* dangerous. But you shouldn't let fear prevent you from experiencing everything the world has to offer. A little common sense during travel goes A LONG LONG WAY in increasing your safety.
As a resident of the Washington, DC area and someone who wonders if I'll live long enough to make it to my car after leaving work, I can say I needed a story like this.
Part of me is fascinated that there might be a bird out there this large, another part of me is thinking YEAH -- BRING ON GODZILLA!
I did some professional photography a while back. I used a standard boilerplate model release form which basically said that the images could be used for just about anything--even inventing stories about people in the image. The model, if s/he signed it, basically had absolutlely no say over how the image was used.
Of course, that was a long time ago, and things might have changed.

But by cutting him out the film, they miss out on releasing the CD "Tom Bombadil Sings for His Lady!"

I predict that quite a few of us will spend the year counting down to the day the third Lord of the Rings movie is released.
Interspersed with shark-like feeding frenzies on any server that posts new trailers for it.
