Speaking of ignorance, there is no such word as "damnit" (you can check it via Webster). Secondly, this was a terrible sentence. "God Damn it." Should be it's own sentence. Yours is a run-on sentence with a couple commas. If you are going to call someone ignorant, you should look competent yourself... lol
I'm sorry but what has Micros~1 ever "innovated"? I have whatched them find small companies whom have good ideas and take them over (oh, sorry.. "buy them out"); and the products they did come up with were stolen or copied. What have they ever innovated? Micros~1 is a hostile marketing company, nothing more.
This guy oviousely hasn't done his homework. A great case in point that a "Linux Union" would never come to be is that it has already been tried (at least in one form). United Linux was one effort that was rejected over and over again by the GNU/Linux/OSS community. It was an effort to standardize and it failed horribly (though they called it a success). In fact, every "Linux Geek" I had conversations regarding it was met with sarcasm and disgust at the very thought of it (rightfully so, I believe). Read for yourself...
However, I kind of like the idea of ruling the world...jk:)
Yes, it's true. Network admins' knowledgebase and compassion have dropped in the last decade while networking has become more complex. This is because of paper admins. The people who go out and get a certification and call themselves admins. They give the rest of us bad names!
Larger copmanies are implementing more sufisticated infrastructures to assist with mission critical and non-critical systems. This has resulted in having to seperate specific roles within I.T. departments. As with any well run department, you need to divide and conquer. Assigning one person (or team) for administration, DB admin, developement, etc. is the most efficiant way to make sure all jobs are getting done by someone whom has been trained to do that specific job.
The problem is that over the last few years, there has been a flood of network admins. The result is companies hire the cheapest person they can. Thus, you get what you paid for.
I have been a network/DB admin for over ten years now. I have to say that one of my most important jobs is to work with the developers. We both have a common goal; to make sure the user can do their job as easily as possible.
Maybe I have a different point of view from other developers because I too develope (on a very small scale). My point is we all need play nice.
Last year I was at a Citrix conference and one of the speakers was Dan Kusnetzky (System Software research Vice President of IDC) Before things got started I had a chance to sit down with him and talk about GNU/Linux. To my surprise, he told me that Linux Desktop Users had already surpassed Macintosh.
I would tend to believe him since he is the foremost knowledgeable (in my opinion) person in the field about such things.
I switched a few weeks ago from GNOME to FXCE (I know, it's still base on GTK, but at least it isn't GNOME). And I think KDE is also barking up the wrong tree. It has become too bloated for my taste.
But I agree, GNOME is clearly going to the dark side of the force. If it's.NET functionality they want, there can always help with the JBOSS project.
It is plainly stated that the numbers aren't necessarily accurate...
There is a distinct difference in the way that vulnerabilities are counted for Microsoft Windows and other operating systems. For instance, applications for Linux and BSD are often grouped in as subcomponents with the operating systems that they are shipped with. For Windows, applications and subcomponents such as Explorer often have their own packages that are considered vulnerable or not vulnerable outside of Windows and therefore may not be included in the count. This may skew numbers.
How is giving power to the people considered to be communistic? If the definition of communism is (taken from www.webster.com) ?a: a doctrine based on revolutionary Marxian socialism and Marxism-Leninism that was the official ideology of the U.S.S.R. b: a totalitarian system of government in which a single authoritarian party controls state-owned means of production.? How does the GPL fit this description? Does Micros~1 not fit the definition of communism a little better? Moreover, Wouldn't Micros~1 actually more closely fit fascism? The GPL stands for the same ideals that founded this free country. Ideals like freedom of an oppressive force. It?s people like you, and the ignorance therein, that are destroying those ideals and thus, the country. I think before you speak up you should do your homework.
You can run almost any game built for Micros~1 Windows on Linux... I use Transgaming's Cedega http://www.transgaming.com/index.php?module=Conten tExpress&file=index&func=display&ceid=29. Its easy to install and supports every game I have ever wanted.
Hello, I am a gamer and I use Linux.... for real.

Here is more info on that. It looks like they are running Windows Server 2003 with IIS 6.

This sounds like a cheap Sci-Fi movie where the computers take over the world. It always starts with the first self aware computer.... :)

Instead of going rack mounted, you might want to try this pc case out. Its dimensions are 8" x 7.4" x 11.7". I think this is a slick little case here!

Ditto man, MCPAN took me less than 2 minutes. Moreover, the default config gets rid of over 75% of my spam! NO CONFIGURING!
This guy is a dork.
The platform I am using is Red Hat 9 and Gaim 0.71. I am not having any problems either.

Nevermind about the Skeksis, I'd like to see the Olgra equivalent!

You can choose from these mirrors. This is the full version, but with no tech support.
p2p is good...

That's good enough for me.

Amen!
Having dealt with Covad on many occasions (each time resulted in lots of Tylenol and alcohol), I think they need to restructure things around.
