...for sutably small values of 'work perfectly'. Remember - IE is *not* a CSS2 conformal browser, I'm not even sure if its strictly HTML4 conformal. All the sites that you visit that don't work in other browsers have been written with buggy, broken HTML to look good in one browser (in stead of looking good in *all* browsers). Realy, its people like you who are makeing the experiance worse for the rest of us.
(I've been using Mozilla for a while now, and I don't have any problem with it rendering sites (mostly because I don't go back to sites with buggy or broken HTML:-))
Either way, most file-sharing is theft - plain and simple
Sorry to sound repatative, but file sharing isn't theft! Call it what it is - 'breach of licence' or 'unauthorized copying' or 'file sharing' even, but don't spread the lies.
To answer the question, download tunes and send pocket change to the artists for each one that you like and want to keep. Its at least as good a deal as most of them get at the moment.
The worm saves itself as/tmp/.a, so if root creates an empty file with a-rwx (0000) permissions the worm will not be able to install itself (assuming that your apache isn't running as root, yeh?) Of cource, the sensible, long term solition is to upgrade to 1.3.26, but as a short term fix this may work (I've not tried it btw - I just upgraded:-)
I'm an artist producing psychedelic trance visuals which I distribute freely over the internet. Presumably since they wish to stop pirated copies of movies, all avi's will have to come with a signature that verifies them. So without a signature someone over the internet will not be able to play my avi. Does this mean the art i produce will need a signature, which presumably I will have to pay for? So I now need to pay microsoft for the ability to create art? Surely this breaks the laws which deal with artistic freedom
Remember folks, everyone with a digital camera, or a TV capture card, or even a sound card is a (potential) producer of digital content. Not everyone is producing just for the cash - the digital video card you sent to mom a couple of sundays back is Digital Content, the tunes you write (with free software, or software you paid for) are Digital Content, the animations you write with Flash or 3DMax are Digital Content. Use the url at the top of the story to register your interest as a *producer* of content, not just a consumer!
"If it takes three minutes for a response, it is not really HTTP any more," Box said.
From RFC 2616 (HTTP/1.1)
HTTP communication usually takes place over TCP/IP connections....This does not preclude HTTP from being implemented on top of any other protocol on the Internet, or on other networks. HTTP only presumes a reliable transport; any protocol that provides such guarantees can be used; the mapping of the HTTP/1.1 request and response structures onto the transport data units of the protocol in question is outside the scope of this specification.
When I install software, I tend to flick through the licence that comes up at the start of the process, and I have noticed that none of them say "You are only licenced to use this software if you have paid $CASH to $COMPANY". So why are software companys suprrised when people don't pay for their software?
Why are so many people obsessed with stealing music?
Breach of copyright is not stealing! If a band (or their record company) plays a tune on the radio, and I hear it, have I "stolen" anything from the band (or promotion company, or the radio station)? How about if I tape it? Record it into my PC and download it to my personal MP3 player?
If I download a tune *that I wasn't going to buy anyway* (remember folks, CD's are more than £10/hour to listen to) have the band (record company) lost anything?
(Do you loose anything if I read your newspaper over your shoulder?)
I got broadband to be a source of data, rather than a sink. Sure, its nice being able to download faster, but the "killer app" (for me at least) was being able to host my own site. The only problem is, its against my providers AUP....
What is it about color displays that makes them a "must have"? I've got a Psion Revo which doesn't suffer from lack of color, and has a longer battery life for it.
Sorry, that didn't count. UK chart company say that you have to pay at least 40p for them to count it.
The more you tighten your grip, Tarkin, the more star systems will slip through your fingers.
Yet you're here, posting on slashdot....:-)
And here's another. Some people you up and asks for your credit card number, expiry date and mothers maiden name. Do you

No, that just how the advertisers want you to think, unless there is someone stood there forcing you to watch TV.

Send back fake results to screw up their data....
Hey! *Thats* why I can't smoke in my office any more...
FYI, Telewest (one of the (two?) large UK cable co.'s) is 23% owned by MS already. (and guess who owns the only cable down my street....)

Did anyone else get an advert for "India's Instant Messenger" at the botom of the article?

Am I the only ex-PS/2 owner who sees PS2 and thinks IBM, not Sony?
From the Infoworld article
and
So does this mean that a) the e-mail is HTML only and b) the sender knows that I've tried to verify it?
How does this help me?

But at least they are *incompetent* bastards....
OK, but if you have a CD, and I copy it, *You still have your CD*
Didn't need no stinking TV license Um, us UKians *do* need a TV licence. I only wish there was a better test than "Can you afford it" to get one....
