Ads can be done in games and actually help the game, if your Shinobi the ninja beating up thugs downtown you should expect to see billboards and having authentic billboards would make the game more authentic. If your a sports star having real ads would also help the game. However I think in game ads may discourage companies from creating games where it is unnatural to have ads, such as a historical game about cavemen or some sort of game where you are in the ancient roman empire, how would adds be placed in these games without ruining their atmosphere? Also how would ads be placed in totally phantasy games like Super Mario brothers, or final fantasy without ruining the cool little worlds these people are trying to create? So what would happen is that although ads can enhance certain games, they will discourage the creation of other games.
People dont watch test movies to see if the story, they use them to see quality of special effects, dialogue scenes etc. This is actually a good movie for this purpose since even though its a god awful film with wretched directing, acting and story line it has a great deal of special effects, explosions and action as well as a great deal of different types of camera effects as well as many scenes with normal looking people. Science ficiton movies or animation are right out, since they lack normal looking scenes that this movie has. All these disks are for is to test visual quality. I know this only because my ex-girlfriend forced me to watch this crap movie...its like watching a 1:30 minute long music video, but as a test vehicle for a new technology its probably not to bad, as long as your paying attention to artifacting in the background and not the dialogue, plot or any type of of the standard things people usually watch movies for.
Read the article, it says nothing about pressuring anyone about eggs, whoever wrote the blurb should be punished, they obviously have a political axe to grind against human cloning. If you actually have access to a sink and still chew this, you are one most nasty individual. This was developed for people who are in jungles and desterts, not slobs who dont want to take a two minute break from playing everquest to brush their teeth every few days, or god forbid brush their teeth after their shower. Reminds me of my girlfriend's father at the family picnic when he started calling someone fat and my girlfriend's sister said "shut up, when was the last time you took a bath" and he said "well I was out boating with my friends a few days ago and the boat capsized..." he thought that counted as a bath.

I also had to buy another PS2 because it had issues. I also own a PSP and the controls on it suck really bad. Sony really has got to fire the people who make their hardware, their hardware not only fails the easiest of all the manufacturers, it also is the easiest to break if you drop it. Gamecubes are virtually indestructible as are Sega Saturns and Dreamcasts...and those systems are all failures...
I guess it doesnt pay to build a good system its all about marketing.
I own a PSP and use it quite a bit, but playing PSP games on it is like 10 on the list of things I do with it, the biggest thing I like to do with it is play music videos! I can compress music videos to about two to three times the size of a MP3 (sometimes its smaller than a 320kbps MP3 of the same song!), and make them full screen. That is why the Ipod video will kick so much butt when it comes out...music videos are a great way to kill time in short burts. Also the emulators on the PSP are nothing short of amazing, I can play gameboy color games, Nintendo 8-bit, Turbo-Graphx-16 and Super nintendo games at full speed and its like having an ipod for games....thats pretty darn cool. Unfortunatley its too big to bring everywhere, but now its jacket weather I can put it in my jacket pocket and bring it with me. But the combo of a bunch of music videos, a movie and like 100 roms on one memory stick plus a game on a UMD is quite a potent combo...unfotunately all the commercial games released for the system cant hold a candle to the games I can play on the emulator...the DS has way better games than the PSP right now, hopefully that will change soon.
I have owned a pocket pc for two years, and it sucks for usability. As a mp3 player it lacks space unless I buy expensive memory cards (extra $). For many of the features I have to guide any body who uses it through many levels of instructions (hard to use for even basic stuff). Whenever I have a girlfriend use it to help with directions they cant even figure out how to get the screen to scroll down or make the volume go up or down on the music...the design on these things is terrible...plus they crash and get slugish often forcing reboots. Ipods rarely have problems like this.
Palm organizers on the other hand have fewer of these issues, but still have text entry issues, are difficult for new users to figure out how to access programs and so on. Ipods are popular because any idiot can pick it up and begin enjoying it without a degree in gadget-ometry. Also palm really needs a new advertising company, who ever is promoting their products should have been fired years ago, their totally inept and should be totally ashamed of themselves, they not only lost the lead in the handheld market, the handheld market has virtually disappeared!

America has strange vending machines too, if you look hard enough...just because there are different vending machines doesnt really say much about culture, what that tells us is that they dont have enough cheap labor to open stores and have people work cash registers...their not big on immigrant labor like we are since the japanese are notorious zenophobes. I am a trained sociologist and know a great deal about japan actually, I actually just did a presentation about asian americans, including Japanese, just last week. They are a little sexually repressed, and they do have some norms about allowing men to read pornography in public that we would consider really strange, but overall Europe is much more sexually liberated than Japan, societies just dont change their sexual customs overnight. Europe has the largest swingers clubs in the world. In Japan, neary all porn is censored, thats why cartoon porn is so popular, they dont have to censor animated pornography as much, though even that has to be censored as well.

Suicide is a very rare event, whereas teen pregnancy and crime are frequent events and have a much greater social impact. Therefore the net overall effect on society of these two phenomena are much greater than the effect of suicide.
Its like saying White male middle class americans are more likely to be serial killers, which is true, so they are the most dangerous population in the world...but there are so few serial killers that it is largely irrelevant to society as a whole compared to many thousands times more homicides committed the world over by spouses or intimates murdering each other, drug related homicides, and other forms of homicide that are not related to serial killers.
Of course there are many more suicides than serial killer murders, but the point is that when you compare suicide to teen pregnancy or crime in general its like comparing a flea to the dog it rides on, one is much more important than the other. Your taxes are higher because of our "highest teen pregnancy rate in world" and our "highest violent crime rate in the world" which means we have to have a vast welfare system since fathers arent around to care for the children and we have to build prisons to house all these violent offenders. Japan doesnt have those problems, suicide doesnt cause those problems, or the long term issues those problems cause, espeically since it is a much more rare event.

If showing sexual content and harsh language to children leads to the lowest birthrate among teenager, then we should do that...since we have the highest teenage birth rate. Japan's is 4, ours is 64, and this data comes from unicef.org, not exactly a obscure or untrustworthy source.
Saying "Did you ever consider that maybe Japan's culture is wrong?" shows not only that you are a idiot, but that you have no idea that not only do people in Japan have less sex, and lower crime rates. So to say that they are somehow immoral because of what they show their children is idiotic, they know how to raise their children, they dont let their televisions do it for they as you obviously let your television do. You can use the same software to convert for PSP as for Ipod video ironically enough, just set the aspect ratio to 320X200 mp4 files, (does not support 368x208 like psp does) is a supported format. Though I am not sure about supported bitrates chances are it will work, though I would wait til you ACTUALLY GET an ipod video before you convert your whole collection. So you can use psp video 9 if you wanted, which is what I will use when I get mine. However, I would like to see it integrated into itunes, just for simplicity sakes, working with one program is better than two.
Not only do you have to pay to convert videos, its also a separate program, which is not a elegant solution at all, and very complicated and very un-ipod like in design. That is why the ipod is cool, its simple, elegant and easy to use. I have owned many mp3 players and they all sucked compared to my ipod, hopefully the video ipod will be as good at doing video as the music ipod was at doing music within a generation or two.
I really am favorable towards the video Ipod, but Apple has really got to give away video conversion software for free with the video ipod, unless they do they are really shooting themselves in the foot. Why would I spend 300-400 dollars on a device then another 30 so I can convert my home movies? That is really lame, and I really agree with Walt Mossberg that it should be within Itunes, instead of having to pay for a separate program. Mossberg is a great tech writer and usually right about these things in the long run, and Apple should listen to him.
You can convert your own videos easily, and oddly enough it uses the same format as the PSP videos, though it will only play videos formated for 320x200 (many psp videos are 368 x 208 since that is the screens native resolution). but that means you can use all those nice PSP video conversion tools to make video for your IPOD videos, talk about Irony!
I thought it was strange that only quick time would play my converted PSP videos...but I think this might be the final nail the PSP's coffin. The lack of games for the PSP was always offset by the fact that it was a nice little movie player, but now that I can get a Ipod with a 30 gig hard drive that can play video for 50 bucks more, OUCH! Of course the screen is not widescreen, but it is more than adequate for watching music videos and tv shows, after all who is expecting the cinematic experience on a two inch screen anyways.
What happens if your leg falls asleep or like every woman I know with a MP3 player you bring it to the gym and use the stair climber for like an hour straight? Or say you just had some dirty sex and were in a weird position and your legs really sore (on your tippie toes)....can we trust your device will still know its you?
I wonder why people wouldnt want to play Halo 2, Resident evil 4, Burnout 3, or Madden 2006 unless they alread own Halo Resident Evil 3 Burnout 2 or Maddden 2005....hmmm
But seriously there are many original games out there that are not sequels, Fire Emblem for the Game Boy Advance, Katamari Datmacy for the Playstation 2, Forza Motor sports Xbox, Ninja Gaiden xbox (totally not a sequel I dont care what anybody says), Paper Mario 1000 year door game cube (yes kinda a sequel, but no one played the original), Pikmin game cube, Metroid Prime game cube, Metroid zero mission, Deus Ex 2 (xbox, pc), Shin Megami Tensi: Digital Devil Saga (PS2), Ape Escape 2 (PS2) Rome Total War, Star trek: Starfleet command 2 (pc). game boy advance, all these games are amazingly awesome and will glue you to the game as if life outside the game did not exist. (starfleet command made me lose a fiance).
There are a ton of awesome and original game experience, but no one ever buys them, they would rather buy something familiar rather than risky, because games are too expensive. If we could get a digitial distribution system where games cost $15 bucks instead of $50 mabey people would take more risks on good games instead of just buying madden and rainbow 6.
I bring a gameboy or PSPS everywhere I go with me, and I got a hot girlfriend who is seven years younger than me and does nag me, argue or demand all kinds of crazy crap. Yeah she did give me some crap about buying a PSP and then a little again when I bought a gameboy Micro, but mostly because Im broke and spend all my money on games. Guys, half the planet is women, Im a a scrawny doofy looking bald guy who never leaves the house without a gameboy and I will tell you that I have totally dated a good amount of women who have put up with it, dont settle for some one just because they will let you fuck them, your not happy dump them, dont let a woman make you a slave.
I bought that "face armor" and it broke within five minutes of buying it...WARNING CRAP ALERT! that is one of the top 5 crapiest things I have every bought, I was just happy the store gave me my money back after I returned it...it was so cheaply made it was crazy.
I own a PSP and its to big to bring around every day in my pants pockets, since it requires some sort of case due to the fact that it is rather delicate and has a huge unprotected screen, it usually has to go into the backpack. Add to the fact that its a pain to get in and out of my pants the fact that it takes time to boot up and play games, I actually want a Gameboy micro, since I can bring it anywhere and get my game on quickly. I actually cant wait for winter in New York because that means I can wear a Jacket with extra pockets so I can actually bring around my PSP without having a huge bulge in my pants. What amazes me even more is that the Nintendo DS is even larger than the PSP, and that was a important consideration when buying the PSP, while I can bear bringing the PSP around with me, it does not fit into some of my pant pockets. I could not even imagine fitting a brick like the Nintendo DS in my pocket, which is sad because I actually think that system has better games than the PSP, I am waiting eagerly for the Nintendo DS - Micro or at least a shrunken version of it, I am glad that at least nintendo is coming to their senses and making a portable game system that fits in the pocket and doesnt take over 30 seconds to boot.
I actually used this sorry piece of crap feature, and If I knew there was a lawsuit I would have sued as well...thankfully we had backups of all our data on disk but you can guess that would mean we lost everything on our hard drive because it seems they rushed this out the door before it was ready. We were running a small business and if we lost those files for good we could have been out of business.
Why dont they make a mobile Final Fantasy tactics, it will work with the craptacular control sets present on any given phone and have a popular name to boot. How about repackaging Final Fantasy II and III (IV and VI Japan) for the gameboy advance since the gameboy Micro is such a huge seller and provide massive amounts of content on the go.
Beyond that Square could create an online game for the DS thats more kid orientated thats sort of a MMORPG but where you raise do the standard fantasy stuff and raise chocobos, customize your character with things you draw with a stylus etc. That would be pretty neat to have a on the go MMORPG.
They said the PS2 would push 100 million polygons, but it actually only pushed about 10 million, so I wouldnt be shocked if that were the real surpise. So nobody bought the dreamcast because the thought sony was acutally telling the truth when they claimed it would be like 10-20 times more powerful.
the average income is low, but that doesnt mean there will not be many people in a land of 1.2 BILLION to make money off of. Some Chinese probably make a very good living, while others wash dishes for 10 cents an hours in the same town, China has an amazing amount of income disparity between cities, regions etc, some towns like Chonquing are relatively wealthy and affluent while many older industrial cities are poverty stricken...its not like they have a minimum wage in china.
It is low pixel response time, not refresh rates, as one response noted, I did not know the correct technical term. Playing namco museum made me really notice it, espcecially rolling thunder. The game played at full speed but it was as if the screen movement could not display the game fast enough. it really bothers the eyes to look at it.

You can convert your own videos easily, and oddly enough it uses the same format as the PSP videos, though it will only play videos formated for 320x200 (many psp videos are 368 x 208 since that is the screens native resolution). but that means you can use all those nice PSP video conversion tools to make video for your IPOD videos, talk about Irony!
I thought it was strange that only quick time would play my converted PSP videos...but I think this might be the final nail the PSP's coffin. The lack of games for the PSP was always offset by the fact that it was a nice little movie player, but now that I can get a Ipod with a 30 gig hard drive that can play video for 50 bucks more, OUCH! Of course the screen is not widescreen, but it is more than adequate for watching music videos and tv shows, after all who is expecting the cinematic experience on a two inch screen anyways.
What happens if your leg falls asleep or like every woman I know with a MP3 player you bring it to the gym and use the stair climber for like an hour straight? Or say you just had some dirty sex and were in a weird position and your legs really sore (on your tippie toes) ....can we trust your device will still know its you?
I wonder why people wouldnt want to play Halo 2, Resident evil 4, Burnout 3, or Madden 2006 unless they alread own Halo Resident Evil 3 Burnout 2 or Maddden 2005....hmmm
But seriously there are many original games out there that are not sequels, Fire Emblem for the Game Boy Advance, Katamari Datmacy for the Playstation 2, Forza Motor sports Xbox, Ninja Gaiden xbox (totally not a sequel I dont care what anybody says), Paper Mario 1000 year door game cube (yes kinda a sequel, but no one played the original), Pikmin game cube, Metroid Prime game cube, Metroid zero mission, Deus Ex 2 (xbox, pc), Shin Megami Tensi: Digital Devil Saga (PS2), Ape Escape 2 (PS2) Rome Total War, Star trek: Starfleet command 2 (pc). game boy advance, all these games are amazingly awesome and will glue you to the game as if life outside the game did not exist. (starfleet command made me lose a fiance).
There are a ton of awesome and original game experience, but no one ever buys them, they would rather buy something familiar rather than risky, because games are too expensive. If we could get a digitial distribution system where games cost $15 bucks instead of $50 mabey people would take more risks on good games instead of just buying madden and rainbow 6.
I bring a gameboy or PSPS everywhere I go with me, and I got a hot girlfriend who is seven years younger than me and does nag me, argue or demand all kinds of crazy crap. Yeah she did give me some crap about buying a PSP and then a little again when I bought a gameboy Micro, but mostly because Im broke and spend all my money on games. Guys, half the planet is women, Im a a scrawny doofy looking bald guy who never leaves the house without a gameboy and I will tell you that I have totally dated a good amount of women who have put up with it, dont settle for some one just because they will let you fuck them, your not happy dump them, dont let a woman make you a slave.
I bought that "face armor" and it broke within five minutes of buying it...WARNING CRAP ALERT! that is one of the top 5 crapiest things I have every bought, I was just happy the store gave me my money back after I returned it...it was so cheaply made it was crazy.
I own a PSP and its to big to bring around every day in my pants pockets, since it requires some sort of case due to the fact that it is rather delicate and has a huge unprotected screen, it usually has to go into the backpack. Add to the fact that its a pain to get in and out of my pants the fact that it takes time to boot up and play games, I actually want a Gameboy micro, since I can bring it anywhere and get my game on quickly. I actually cant wait for winter in New York because that means I can wear a Jacket with extra pockets so I can actually bring around my PSP without having a huge bulge in my pants. What amazes me even more is that the Nintendo DS is even larger than the PSP, and that was a important consideration when buying the PSP, while I can bear bringing the PSP around with me, it does not fit into some of my pant pockets. I could not even imagine fitting a brick like the Nintendo DS in my pocket, which is sad because I actually think that system has better games than the PSP, I am waiting eagerly for the Nintendo DS - Micro or at least a shrunken version of it, I am glad that at least nintendo is coming to their senses and making a portable game system that fits in the pocket and doesnt take over 30 seconds to boot.
I actually used this sorry piece of crap feature, and If I knew there was a lawsuit I would have sued as well...thankfully we had backups of all our data on disk but you can guess that would mean we lost everything on our hard drive because it seems they rushed this out the door before it was ready. We were running a small business and if we lost those files for good we could have been out of business.
Why dont they make a mobile Final Fantasy tactics, it will work with the craptacular control sets present on any given phone and have a popular name to boot. How about repackaging Final Fantasy II and III (IV and VI Japan) for the gameboy advance since the gameboy Micro is such a huge seller and provide massive amounts of content on the go.
Beyond that Square could create an online game for the DS thats more kid orientated thats sort of a MMORPG but where you raise do the standard fantasy stuff and raise chocobos, customize your character with things you draw with a stylus etc. That would be pretty neat to have a on the go MMORPG.
They said the PS2 would push 100 million polygons, but it actually only pushed about 10 million, so I wouldnt be shocked if that were the real surpise. So nobody bought the dreamcast because the thought sony was acutally telling the truth when they claimed it would be like 10-20 times more powerful.
the average income is low, but that doesnt mean there will not be many people in a land of 1.2 BILLION to make money off of. Some Chinese probably make a very good living, while others wash dishes for 10 cents an hours in the same town, China has an amazing amount of income disparity between cities, regions etc, some towns like Chonquing are relatively wealthy and affluent while many older industrial cities are poverty stricken...its not like they have a minimum wage in china.

It is low pixel response time, not refresh rates, as one response noted, I did not know the correct technical term. Playing namco museum made me really notice it, espcecially rolling thunder. The game played at full speed but it was as if the screen movement could not display the game fast enough. it really bothers the eyes to look at it.
