I use open source software every day, but I must admit that its been available for free, for years now has yet to over take even apple in the desktop market. The open source community needs to examine user complaints and see why people would rather pay their hard earned cash for a insecure operating system like windows instead of using a free operating system like Linux, instead of calling these people stupid or uninformed, I would argue that far from being uniformed they probably have some reasons for doing so.
For one its still difficult to print from linux, the file system in linux is still more complicated than in windows, perhaps a google database like search bar function could make it easier for people to search their files? Fonts dont look as good as in windows...many other minor usability issues add up and turn off users.

I have actually gone back to playing Gameboy SP, its smaller, more comfortable to hold and easier on my eyes, even with its little screen....its something to do with the way it refreshes or the way it does 3d.

I doubt I would even notice the difference between a Blue-ray DVD and a standard DVD, except that I cant back it up and it will be easier to damage because the data will be packed more densely on the disk. The first DVD I ever purchased, Fight Club, skipped and crashed the first time I watched and they wouldnt allow me to return it to the store (Best Buy), imagine how much easier it will be to damage a disk with 5 times the amount of data on it!

Hostage situations: instead of having to risk the hostages lives and negotiate with hostage takers you can take a minimal fatal risk right at the begining of the hostage crisis by shocking everyone in the premises unconscious, possibly saving the hostages, police, and even the criminals from a potentially deadly and psychologically scarring situation.

    2. Attacks on a building, a giant lightning gun could shock people storming a building and knock them all unconcious, no assault rifle can take down 200 hundred guys storming an embasy like they did in saigon or terhan.

    3. Preventing bad press, instead of a soldier or police officer entering a sitution where he is unsure of what is going on and feels endangered so he shoots someone, he merely blinds them or shocks them to the ground.

Nonlethals are not perfected yet, thats why we are still investing in them, but I would rather take my odds with a taser than a semi automatic pistol any day of the week. Complaining that people still could die misses the point, people are definitely going to die if they get shot with a M16.

  13. White vs black thinking is usually wrong on The Invasion of The Chinese Cyberspies · · Score: 2, Insightful

Usually only fools think in terms of white in black, because their not bright enough to understand the true complexity of life. Will we at some level be at odds with China, most definitely. Will China be our largest trading partner, most definitely.
Therefore there will be a great deal of ambivalence in our relations, with China trying to wield its new found power and America trying to maintain a unipolar world order, but at the same time both sides not wanting to disrupt many of the delicate threads that hold their delicate economies together. Outright war is not going to happen,
America has a huge foriegn debt, trade deficit, and budget deficit that are endangering its long term economic growth while China's very booming economic expansion is at the same gathering support for the government while fostering a great deal of corruption within it. Outright war would wreck both countries.
However, on the espinage front, we really have to get on the ball and be very agressive with china and realize that we have to go after them harshly, perhaps using anti terrorism law. If this escalates things that is what must happen. There may be some saber rattling in beijing when we execute or imprison a few spies but that is what must happen, we have to use any means possible to root out chinese spies since the chinese are using any means possible to get our agents.
Its no secret that during the cold war the that the russians had a much better intelligence agency than us, thats why it was called the IRON CURTAIN, we had no idea what was going on behind the iron curtain. When they hack us, we hack back, we disable their systems, we play their game, we play harder. Our infrastructure may be fragile, but theirs is much worse and we can take advantage of that fact.
Unless the United states is for some reason willing to world war three over a Chinese annexation of Taiwan, I doubt we will see a war with China any time soon. I doubt they have any aspirations to annex a huge empire since they already have an empire and really dont like people who arent chinese, so why would they want them as part of their country?

And I didnt buy a Nintendo DS because I thought nobody was releasing games for it. The sad part is that a bunch of interesting games are out right now in Japan, Some RPGS, which the PSP in America has none of, Astonishia Story, Breath of Fire III, although america is getting one in november, that is a while to wait. Also Japan has just seen some other games released such as Star Soldier, Megaman Dash, Taiko No Tatsujin, Sengoku Ace III-Sengoku Cannon, Heaven Key Earth Gate, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Popolocrois ponogatari, Shin Mimi Bukuro, Higanjima. Thats not a complete list, those are just the ones that looked interesting to me!
If sony actually cared about this system, why only release six games in the three months after releasing it? What kind of half-baked strategy is that? Even the prospect of using it for webbrowsing or emulators doesnt seem all that tempting compared to the increasing amount of quality software that seems to be comming out for the nintendo DS, if only the Nintendo DS wasnt the size of a brick I might buy one.

It would have to be created by the company that made the original system, and I dont mean some game pack with like ten games, I mean a actual emulator they sell that runs awesome for like 50 bucks that you never need to upgrade because the people who made the original system made the emulator. Turbo grafx would be a good one, lots of systems like that.

This awesome firware update ironically comes out in america the day after the supernintendo emulator for the PSP is able to run Super metroid and 90% of all super nintendo games at 60 frames per second (full speed) with zero frame skip since it can take advantage of speed hacks. Even final final fantasy III can run at almost full speed (dips slightly when entering combat to 55 frames a second). Talk about bad timing.
Its much better super nintendo emulation than any five month old system has any right having, I really wish that sony would wise up start issuing its formal stamp of approval to emulators so and certain other homebrew apps so there would be no other legitimate excuse for non-pirates not to upgrade their psp firmware, I would upgrade it in a minute if sony was selling a official genesis emulator made by sega that ran at full speed and cost like ten dollars.

The emulators on the PSP are better than a computer emulator because you can have it with you anywhere, line at a bank, waiting for your girlfriend while trying clothes on etc. And the idea of save states and the way the sleep mode works has you back to exactly where you were in seconds, not having to wait for the computer to boot, etc.
I can play Smash TV until its boring, then play Mario until I die, then play Punch out, then switch to Phantasy Star IV....old RPGs are like crack on a portable. Unless you can get a PSP that says "REVISION A" not "REVISION B" underneath where it says "120V" dont even bother. Yes I can play pirated PSP games on it, but I dont, not because I think its unethical etc, simply because their not very good, and I can play 99% of them on systems I already own, and not only that the emulators are more fun...mike tyson's punch out rules! Zelda RULES! Super Mario World Rules! Sonic Hedgehog and Phantasy Star are amazing! The Castlevania for the Turbografx that was never released in America is one of the best ones, No game for the PSP comes even close to these classics, why waste precious space on my memory stick for these bloated apps? Besides it is kinda cheesy to steal them when they just came out, if I really did want them I actually would buy them, besides the fact that they would take up most my memory stick.

Also it didnt hurt that the PS2 was a dvd player, but the point is that if people want a new playstation, their going to wait for it, and it could actually hurt microsoft more if Sony DOESNT release the ps3 on time, since often anticipation is better than reality. Just look at the DS, it came out early and critics were always comparing it and its games to the PSP unfavorably, even though the PSP was not released yet and for some reason game reporters cant say anything bad about stuff thats not released yet. Now that the PSP is out they are all complaining about the lack of games, so the PSP actually was doing better before it was launched in the gamming press because it was so overhyped.

I dont regret buying it because I purchased it for emulators, but unlike the DS, I cant buy a good new game if I wanted too, the DS has a number of good games comming out on a regular basis and is releasing great games like advance wars: Dual strike, nintendogs and Lunar in the next month or so...but the ds cant play SNES.
