Darwinism, or survival of the "fitest", does not care how much money you earn.
The definition of "fitness" is your ability to reproduce. Welfare mothers, NBA stars with 14 kids, are more fit than CEOs worth millions/billions with one, two, or especially no children, regardless of income.
Earning a degree from college does not make you more "fit". Having children makes you more fit. Having an IQ of 150+ does not make you more "fit". Being "smart" enough to take birthcontrol to prevent unwanted pregnancies probably makes you more "unfit".
Imagine a world where companies sell "individual" license to people to use their products. You pay your "daily, weekly, monthly, etc" Coke license and you can drink coke products anywhere they are offered.
When you apply for a job, you list what software you are "licensed" for. Hiring will be done by qualifications and the completeness of your personal licensing. "I'm sorry, you are not licensed for our version of Microsoft Office. Next!".
I once thought such scenarios were just a figment of my imagination, but more and more I see that this may well become reality one day.

Each provides a quite different approach to CS education. Just remember that you did not learn everything you will ever need to know in college. Hopefully your undergrad taught you how to learn new information quickly.
For CS students, the fundamentals of discrete math and set theory are probably some of the most important. More focus on these in a CS context would be helpful to people such as myself who find math more interesting when it has a purpose. I did not mind the physics and statistical math courses. I could see the point behind them clearly. But doing math just for the sake of doing math never seem to have a purpose.

We test children in sevaral grades, 4th & 8th being very common years for high-stakes testing. Why do we compare scores year to year, instead of comparing scores for the same children from test to test?
Does anybody actually check to see if children who fail the 4th grade test and gets remediation are doing well in the 8th grade, or if they have fallen behind again?
Funny how I always seemed to be "randomly" chosen for special assessment tests for my school. It seemed that the majority of the "randomly" chosen were people who scored in the top 1% on the standardized test.

I am trying to remind people that business make jucier targets than individuals. They generally have more money and are easier to extort than individuals. I am also trying to encourage legal use of software, both paid for and OSS.
People always have their own version of ethics and right and wrong. Focus on business ethics. Plenty of cases of businesses getting caught in either grey or outright black areas of software license infringement. Explain that suing individuals for "scare factor" and deterence is only part of what is being discussed. Explain the liability of the average small company and how software piracy can be a detriment to their profitability and the bottom line.

You can put the blame for this on Affirmative Action...
See, if they had used a good solid encryption scheme, only a select few uber hacker/crackers could beat the security. Of course they would then spill the beans, let the cat out of the bag, while taking credit and gaining fame.
So they used some Affirmative Action methods to make it where even a GNAA level hacker/cracker could beat their security and feel good about themselves too, just like if they were real elite.
Just a victim of your own sucess really. No point securing it, since it will be broken.
That was an informative reply. Still can't pronounce it... but recognize the reference.

Getting the new OS out in time to be pre-loaded on all the "Christmas Computer" by the OEM's is important.
How long are we going to be given the option to buy computers with XP? When will Vista be a mandatory pre-load?
How many thousands of fonts could one possibly want in their documents?
I believe the argument to upgrade to the latest version of Office would be better made if they promised to not allow 10 pt Arial font ever!
True believers already know that 12pt Time New Roman is the only "TRUE" font.

If you just want something with a "purpose", learn to weld.
Funny, had a conversation with a coworker who is also in IT. He was saying, "If I had gone into welding, I would have made way more money."
If I had wanted to be rich, I would have been a plumber!
I have a CS undergrad too. I had the same concerns about areas of weakness in the education I received.
I highly recommend the MIT Open Courseware and the Webcasts at Berkley.
