Especially once you consider the fact that it's dirt simple to license the music. Mixing can easily be done and sold with a per-minute cost that gets paid back to the original artist. It's cheaper to license the rights directly from the artist for bulk work like this though. If this is really a benefit to the artist then it should have been easy to get licensed cheaper that the statutory default.

Mixing can be 100% legal... all you have to do is pay the appropriate license and you are good to go.

The cost can't be any greater than the increase in cost of gasoline to the US consumers and buisnesses due to US lead instability in oil producing countries in the middle east and the continued effort of the US to piss off oil producing countries outside the middle east.

We are bringing any increased cost upon ourselves and then spending hundreds of billions of dollars on top of that to comat it. That money could have been spent on real threats to our economy... pandemic flu.. when it hits is almost guaranteed to cause major disruption to our economy and since we have no nation health care will probably take an unfortunatly large amount of people since we have no way to force creation or stockpiling of necessary resources to combat such a threat.

  8. Way overblown on Netflix Throttling Heavy Renters · · Score: 1

I've had this discussion over and over again with people. It's those "infrequent renters" that make the type of service "heavy renters" like. Netflix, based on revenue in an area, probably processes X DVD's a day. If you are an infrequent renter you jump to the head of the line making sure that you get the movie you want. Heavy renters OTOH might face small delays. This problem is conounded when a regional center is going through a capacity issue and the heavy users will be the first to notice the problem, and the first to leave freeing up the system for regular users.

I use netflix, I would consiter myself a regular->heavy renter getting 3-5 disks/week. But I don't rent new releases. I rent older titles and I rent TV shows. Most of the new releases I am either picking up myself or I can wait to watch them. I consiter the service a "good deal" since it's half as much as I would pay to the local BB or HV to rent those movies and they just show up at the house.

The glory days when netflix was running a loss, when all the distribution centers were new, is over and people should get used to it. The only problem that I have is that netflix need to be a little more transparent in their processes and advertising. Even just using the same disclaimer that the ISP used "*unlimited rentals limited by mail speed and shipping capacity".

Hell if the post office kept that kind of information I'm sure the police could get routing information there too ( if they don't already ).

"You can search people and cars coming into the US with much less than probable cause."
Regular police action and customs are two totally different items. They are held to two very different standards. Once again, not the police.

"You do not need a search warrant to go through garbage somebody puts out at the curb."
Depends on the local laws. Generally if you throw it away you loose control of the item.

"You do not need a search warrant to find out the telephone numbers that somebody dialed. (You generally need one for the conversation.)"
