The problem is you must have standing to bring the case in the first place. In order to have strong standing you have to be harmed by the actions of the government. I can't think of very many other cases where a person would be harmed and would want to take it before a judge. If you lost confidential information or trade secrets to a border agent would you really want to make it know to the world? If you lost a laptop to customs would it really be worth the years of litigation to prove a point?
Yes, I wish it was something more benign, but this is a vary real person with a legitimate gripe about the use of illegally seized evidence being used to try and convict him in a criminal case.
I like being able to see OVER traffic. You get to see over traffic and everyone else gets to see this mammoth SUV. You might feel safer, but everyone around you is handicapped in terms of visibility.
because i have to pay the mortgage. Well, that excuse is starting to wear thin. Is survival and even just maintenance of a domicile that critical in your value system?
People of this generation have no notion of freedom and of sacrifice. They cling to their lives and to their families not realizing that clinging to your own life and clinging to the lives of your loved ones is precisely what endangers those lives. It's that clinging that allows others to grab you by your balls and tell you to do as told. You obviously do not have a family. Wife, child under 2, and another on the way. I do the best without endangering my family and the source of joy in my life. I defend the constitution within my ability to do so at this time in my life.
What I find most annoying about all of this is all the people whining and complaining, how many "rewards" cards do you carry in your wallet? How often do you blurt out your phone number to cashiers? I don't like these regulations any more than the next guy, but most americans have freely given out more information to CVS without a second thought.
In order to get the key from you, they'll have to contact you. So they can't secretly eavesdrop on your communications.
Should you refuse the key, they will have to convince a judge to order you to divulge it - thus, your 4th ammendment rights are preserved - the judge will require probable cause before issuing the order.
In demanding the key, the issue will move from the administrative branch to the judicial branch. You want to force the government into the courtroom so that your other rights are not trampled as well.
Unless they use their "Sneak and Peek" warrant to steal your key and log your keyboard for the passphrase ( That's assuming they bother with a warrant )
Or they drag you off for rendition
They wouldn't bother with that pesky "open" judicial system. If they bother at all to drag you in front of a judge it would be in front of the FISA "secret" court. Oops, no rights there.
Um... the fact that the new line of iPods ( granted only the iPhone and touch ) can have media downloaded to it outside of a USB sync.
The hash is a simple and effective was to not only ensure integrity and to check to see if there are new songs on the iPod. If they wanted to lock out 3rd party use of the iPod they would have just gone with an encrypted volume.
If I remember correctly he already had the hardware, but it all the info goes into a "black box" and spits out a number. He had no way to know how it actually worked. The manufacturer was claiming that the state did not own the source code and therefore it could not be discovered in court.
I don't know if he really wanted the source code or was just hoping that the manufacturer would balk so they had a reason to throw out the results.
If convicted, she could be sentenced to a year in prison and a $2,500 fine. The police say they lack discretion because Regal Cinemas chose to prosecute: 'They were the victim in this case, and they felt strongly enough about it.'
Boo-f-ing-whoo
They should get 1 year for the aggravation that the rest of the theater had to endure! They intentionally interrupted others viewing of the move that was not only annoying, but criminal.
But if you're willing to live with lock-in, Apple is a great choice for computing. Installation isn't a problem -- Apple does it for you. Networking is easy. Productivity is a dream. The Mac offers a broad variety of entertainment options. It's a secure platform. It interoperates well with Windows. It's highly stable, and offers solid backup choices for the data losses that are inevitable on any computing platform.
Right now, Apple is smokin', and its customers are happy. But if the Apple gets rotten and starts coming out with inferior products -- as it did in the '90s -- its customers will have the choice of suffering, or making the painful switch to another platform.
Until then, I'm sticking with the Mac. It's a great computer.
So how does this article say "different strokes for different folks"? It's clearly states that OSX is the winner for most people looking to switch away from Microsoft.
Razib showing that high-school age adolescents with higher IQs and extremely low IQs were less likely to have had first intercourse than those with average to below average intelligence.
aka.. people that are socialize with the "normal" crowd are more likely to get laid. I would bet dollars for doughnuts that this has more to do with social interactions than to IQ.
Oh, and everyone who said that the smarter you are the more likely you are to understand the ramifications of sex I nearly spit coffee all over my keyboard. Boys do not care about ramification they have these things called hormones that are in far greater control of their body than any IQ could ever be.
Sprint and Verizon are both CDMA gorillas and they will refuse to activate non-branded phones. Sure the FCC requires they do, but they have figured out ways to prevent most people from doing so legally. Making insane requirements that only are met by their branded firmware using any FCC option as a mandatory requirement ( for safety reasons )... anything to prevent phone from being activated that were not sold by them.
But you can activate any CDMA phone on "page plus" which is a pre-pay service that uses the very same CDMA network. At rates as low as.06/min and.50/month it's a good deal for anyone but the biggest talker.
If you want true competition you have to go unlocked GSM since the phone will work almost anywhere in the world ( within reason ) all you need to do is pick up a SIM ( cheap usually ) card for the local provider and pop it in your phone. No need to ask for permission or fight with CSR's who don't know crap that isn't on their screen. While CDMA is slightly more efficient it's lock in effect is crazy.
The MBP ( and all Mac Laptops ) support two finger tap ( as opposed to since finger tap ) to get to the context menu. The trackpads really kick ass too since you don't clutter up the space with scroll areas, just use two fingers and you are scrolling vertical, horizontal or both. Honestly I only ever use the button for click-n-drag operations at this point.
The mighty mouse can be configured for single or dual mouse buttons.
Obviously you have never worked in a school with teachers. The easiest way to describe it is a dysfunctional company run democratically by it's employees.
It will end up with a smaller market share than Java with all the same problems. Debugging will be hell and the application on all platforms will suck because it does not co-exist well with the rest of the system. At least with java there were significant security benefits and a large enough base to make simple graphical tools useful. Extensions to java such as SWT also went quite a way in creating a good native UI widget set, but it still sucks.
I have been using the Nightly's of Minefield ( FF3.0a4pre ) and it's fixed. Currently the alpha builds are incredibly stable and use 1/3 the memory that safari uses for the same workload. Occasionally it will get confused by google reader and take up too much CPU, but I just close that tab and it fixes it.
It's stable enough that I'm using it as my default browser right now.
If my child could circumvent filtering software... I think they have earned a little bit of freedom on the computer. I would probably still log at the firewall, but I'm not going to play cat&mouse with a kid who obviously will work around anything I put on a computer.
I will sit them down and talk with them about the responsibility and safety issues, but then let them at it. If they can't behave responsible then they get nothing, I will turn off internet access all together for a period of time.
As IT you should not be giving users whatever they want, but you need to remember that each request means that IT is probably missing something. The article is a good read and contrasts the "control everything" motto that you have to a balanced approach that makes IT part of a total discussion on topics like "I need to do this work at home" or "I need to share these documents with joan in accounting".
Don't fear your expert users, embrace them and learn.
And yes, I do work in IT. While we don't deal in corporate secrets, we do have a secure environment for out users that is not restrictive.

Actually that is abiogenesis not evolution, so take your strawman somewhere else.
Doh! /me goes to finds his glasses
That would be a big "Duh" moment, except that peanuts are legumes and not nuts as their name would imply.

Why not just NOT tax that 10% and the citizen can donate it to whom ever they want? What a concept!
Yep... stopped using FF2.0 because of this bug.

It's completely broken
1) What is porn... I bet your idea of porn and Utah's idea of porn are completely different ( statue of david? what about racy swimsuits? )
2) This is *state* law and is not legally binding on anyone not located within that state
3) So you still have to filter anyways... why bother at all then?
