How would Mr. Jones feel about being imprisoned for three months so that police could take their sweet time figuring out what, if anything, to charge him with?

If Mr. Jones was a Muslim who attended hate-filled mosques and consorted with terrorist suspects, I'd prefer he actually be killed "resisting arrest", to be honest.

Frankly, a few more bombings or bombing attempts, and I see England rightfully expelling their Muslims, revoking native citizenship and sending the hellspawn to their parent's (or grandparent's) nation of origin.

Let's face it: America interned its citizens of Japanese origin for far less. Better to overreact now and let the historians apologize.

Biodiesel is still a far better choice, as its energy balance is undeniably and strongly net positive. Also, TDP should be included in any energy subsidy planning, since it combines effective waste management with fuel and energy creation with displaced CO2 (the process generates CO2, but that CO2 would have been created anyway or, worse, methane would have been created).

I'm still a fan of hydrogen, though, even if you have to build out local natural gas reformers piggybacked on the gas infrastructure as a stopgap to get you to a hydrogen pipeline system with nuclear-electrolyzed hydrogen (with anti-NIMBY legislation, the transition would take no more than 20 years). And yes, I'd have a reformer in my garage if I could, and frankly you wouldn't even need fuel cells to start: go with LNG-style conversions first.

    • emulates iPod control scheme using the touchscreen when playing music, emulates phone keypad in phone mode
    • wireless everything of course, including AD2P
    • Optional PSP-style clamshell cover that 'docks', with integrated keyboard

It would seem that the advantages of a xServe cluster (altivec, 64-bit and good performance per watt) would be lost when Apple produces an x86 version when compared to a (inevitably) cheaper x86 Linux system.

By the time XServe migrates, I believe Apple will be using x86-64-capable CPUs in that line. Also, IIRC SSE3 has support for double-precision float arithmetic in its vector ops, whereas Altivec doesn't.

Also, Apple is pushing their Accelerate.framework, which should make vectorized code somewhat portable between Altivec and SSE3. Check Apple's guide to SSE for more details.

Leaving aside the particulates factor, NOx increases ozone, and urban areas tend to suffer from a 'heat island' effect which exacerbates ozone.

This is true even for cities that don't suffer from inconvenient geography, like LA or Mexico City.

Again, a hybrid diesel that shuts down entirely and runs on batteries (with regenerative braking) in stop-n-go traffic would be fine. But even with particulate traps and urea injection the optimal urban solution would be not to emit in the first place.

Besides, hybrids that can run on battery-only are quieter, and as big a fan as I am of diesels, they are not quiet and can't really be made to be. Most if not all urban areas suffer from significant noise pollution as it is.
