  1. Re:What's the point of all this? on Three Neptune-sized Planets Found Nearby · · Score: 1

Lets loose the sarcasm when talking about the poor. My wife remembers nights where she slept under a pick nick table when she was a child because her dad lost his job during the rescission in the 80s. They had so little that all their belongings could fit in their car. However, the last word I would use to describe my father-in-law is lazy. He made a dollar here and there by fixing cars, or taking odd jobs, however he didn't make enough to put food on the table for his children every night. My point is, a little bad luck in life doesn't make someone lazy. And I find it offensive that you would categorized the poor that way. I hope you never have to experience that way of life.

First, it probably wouldn't come across real well if she said she didn't think she had a chance in hell of winning. How lame would that be?

Second, I think you have to consider her audience for this interview. She is relating to the slashdot crowd by showing excitement of a tech related question. Demonstrating commonalities between you and your audience is a great way to grow a strong rapport with people. I'd say it is a good thing that she knows how to do that.

I used to buy CD's, but the economy hit me hard, and I frankly can't afford $16+ for a CD. When I see one on sale for $11 or less, and it is something I actually want, I will still buy it. But $16, $17, or even $18? Get Real! The music isn't that great. But back to emusic, they pay the artists based off of what I download, which is a great concept. And all their artists do have record deals, but they aren't the "megahit" deals that get played with the crap on the radio.

Thanks for the obvious, my friend. Unfortunately, that will cause the business to be "out of business", which means I have no job. I guess I pick the lesser of two evils. If I only work 8-9 hours, THEN ½ hour wouldn't be a big deal. But when I only get a couple hours each night with my kid, taking away any amount of that time hurts.

I have to disagree. It interrupts my work. I get emails from customers through out the day, and I have a tendency to try and reply within a reasonable amount of time. So, whenever I get an email, I have to interrupt my work. And trust me, it can get real annoying when I get a spam every 10-15 minutes. That is a big time interruption. Luckily filters are starting to help, but it is still an annoying problem. If I could just turn mail off for the day, that'd be great. But I can't. So instead of a 14 hour day at the office, I'm here 14 ½. That is ½ hour less time spent with my family. That Sh*t pisses me off.
