Pardon my ignorance as an American here, but is that literally an unelected body, and, if so, why would a modern nation have an unelected governing body in the 21st century, let alone the 20th?
You may now resume making fun of our fscked up government, thanks:)
I had a professor that wouldn't let you take any notes, any time. If he saw you with a pen or pencil in hand he'd politely ask "what the hell are you doing?" If any CFA's know Herbert Mayo from their studies, that's the guy.
"People should just take audio recordings of lectures instead. Then you can automate transcription."
Audio recording your lectures (assuming you're present at the lecture) is a completely braindead way of learning anything. Having a transcript of the lecture is not meant to be the end result. The whole point is to write down the key points or your observations from the lecture. If at any point you're simply transcribing words from a transcript into a report or homework assignment, you've completely missed the point of learning. A chimpanzee can hit a record button, but a human can pay attention and begin the download of knowledge into his mind right at the time of the lecture by taking good notes. By the other logic, if the professor hands out a printed and detailed outline of that day's lecture, why not just up and leave at that point?
Then again, college isn't anything like the real world, so who cares right? However, one of the goals of attending college is to teach you the skills to learn things out in the real world. I would be wasting my life away if I tried to type up all the interviews I conduct with clients or try to record all the continuing ed lectures I attend...we keep CDs of the lectures, but there's no learning taking place unless you're taking notes and internalizing all the information.
"There was no talk of Spaarti cloning cylinders or Joruus C'Boath being cloned from Jorus C'Boath."
Timothy Zahn's "Outbound Flight" novel just came out. That should explain what happened to ol' Jorus. I grabbed a copy this past weekend and will jump right into it, as I'm only a few pages away from completing "Dark Force Rising."
"You can play soccer barefoot. I assume that it is a slightly more dainty and skillful game: you cannot just lash out at the ball and expect your boots to protect your toes."
Let's not romanticize barefoot soccer too much. My mom played it that way as a kid in Yugoslavia (when it was still a Titoist paradise) and always used to tell me how much her feet hurt afterwards. Hint: it wasn't played that way because of the greater finesse and skill needed...it's because they were too POOR to afford proper shoes for football.
I haven't purchased a Nike product for well over a decade due to their use of sweatshops in Asia. It would seem to me that Google would be indirectly supporting Nike's disgusting business practices by providing the tech support in this venture.
The site, cbs.sportsline.com, is still up and running and is, in an indirect manner, being used to facilitate sports gambling all throughout the US. For those overseas, March is the month of the year when everyone turns a blind eye to betting on college basketball games.
This might be an interesting business article, sure, but the topic is completely out of the bounds of Your Rights Online. Note to editors: articles should not be classified under YRO to complain about lack of convenience. Ironically, this is the first/. thread where the big complaint is that a song is NOT being sold in a DRM'd format.
My Akimbo box will arrive tomorrow. It was on sale for $70 with a 30-day free trial, so what's there to lose, right? How do you like the service? I'm guessing you let your shows download while you're at work? I'm pretty excited about getting Fawlty Towers for 49 cents an episode!
My game consumption was down to zero in February because all the local retailers were telling me that they'd be getting the Xbox 360 in regular stock come March. I put a permanent freeze on my PS2 game purchases as a result. Then March came and I bought the 360 and a couple games, with a couple more purchases likely to follow.
"What, is there some sort of luddite movement that forbids digital watches at certain jobs? Are digital watches considered socially unacceptable among the upper crust?"
I do a lot of work for high-powered New York attorneys and their clients, which is about high as one can get in the crust. Here's how it is...nobody gives a crap about your watch or your shoes. I see digital watches all the time. Just wear a decent suit, be a good listener and a good worker and you'll fit right in. Heck, I just ordered a pair of Time Tag watches from Thinkgeek, as someone mentioned in this thread, and I'll be clipping one to my sleeve for business meetings.
Apparently no one here is aware of the sex, drugs and violence that underlies the international ping pong circuit. Anyone who buys this as a "family friendly" game will be in for a *BIG* surprise.
"On top of people externalizing their poor parenting on places like myspace, it seems the wonderful government schools are also using it to spy on their students."
Just to nitpick on semantics here, but you're not really spying on someone if the "spyee" is putting out all that information for the world to see. Stupidity should be punished and it should be painful.
"the House of Lords (an unelected body)"

"Football Where A Bunch Of Guys In Protective Gear Keep Crashing Into Each Other."
Or, as this American calls it, "Rugby for Pussies."

Yeah, really. Anyway, it's St. Patrick's Day, so why don't we all go out for pangalactic gargleblasters?
I've got my copy of Geometry Wars on my PGR3 disk. Is there a way to move it to the 360's hard drive so I don't have to load up PGR3 all the time?
"Anti-competative law is designed to allow a government to intervene in a realworld market to make it behave more like a free-market."
Very good point. I've always said that a free market is a regulated market.

Given that AOL Time Warner owns The Sopranos, I'd have to say fuggeddaboudit.
From the article:
"It...has flexible left- or right-handed straps"
That, or add-in another $500 for image stabilisation. Pencils down.
"People never complained Mario is full of drug refrences (You can't deny it, please don't try),"
OK, I'll bite. I've heard the mushrooms to be more of a phallic reference, but that's about it.
I think a far more interesting proposition would be to pit a 100lb pit bull against 100lbs of chihuahuas.

I think this one would be the most damaging: join.moveon.org

I don't think the mice care; they just accept who they are. A lesson learned perhaps?

"How about this? You have a stroke in the bathroom, and try to call for help."
We're talking about movie theatres, not gay bars.
Some comedian once suggested that IFORGET would be a much more clever license plate number.
