The world economy is driven by fossil fuels. Do we need to develop a more sustainable mode? Certainly. In the meantime we need oil and coal. There is also nothing wrong with turning a profit while providing people with a much needed product.
A person buying produce in a Middle Aged marketplace was most likely buying from a 'third party' because the Feudal Lord du jour was the owner of the land and made the rules. I'm sure similar circumstances existed way back into late prehistory.
I don't see where you get that sheet-fed scanners are expensive. There are dozens of all-in-one scanners / printers / copiers for under $100.
True, but do they actually work? I've owned a couple of sheet feeders that always managed to feed several sheets at a time. Only the high end units could actually take a stack of paper and feed them one at a time.
I've faxed large document sets using the HP OfficeJet 6310xi that I have at home. I've had the printer for years and used to use it extensively for faxing. I have never had a problem with the feed of stacked documents.
Anytime someone says that the science is conclusive and need not be questioned I will stop listening as they are obviously now talking religion, as science does not ever stop questioning.
There is some climate science that is pretty much settled, as far as any science gets. The average temperature changing throughout the twentieth century, for instance. There may be some quibbling, but nothing serious. I'll agree with you, though, that anybody treating forecasts using climate models as any sort of reliable evidence is abusing science.
The fact that climate is changing is established science based on observation. What all of the various causes/drivers of it is not.
If Apple history is any indication, tough times are ahead for Apple as they've only been successful in the past under Jobs direction. That might be why it's considered sad news by some. Me, I'm more curious about how things will change with a different CEO.
I agree there. I'm certainly curious to see what will happen next with regards to Apple and their current dominance in the market.
I think it's probably seen as sad in this case because it's assumed that if Jobs has felt the need to resign, it is because his health is deteriorating. Probably terminally.
Ok, good point. It's sad for him and his friends and family. It's sad in that any untimely demise is sad, but honestly it doesn't matter to me any more than the general 'oh how sad' I express generically when I see a news story about some stranger I'll never know who dies.
I do hope he lives his remaining days in happiness. I certainly don't wish him ill, but aside from shareholders I still fail to see how this is anything terrible.
Why exactly is the resignation of any CEO, of any company, 'sad' news? I don't wish him ill, but I don't see how this is sad at all. Times change, people change, employees (yes even CEO's) come and go. It's just business.
Juniper's recent purchase of Trapeze gives them a pretty powerful line of wireless hardware with software to support it. One cool feature is the ability to literally draw lines based on floorplan as to where a given AP will allow a client to connect.
Then there's Aruba. They have some really great management and security features. Browse both vendor's sites and take a look at their literature. I've seen both implemented to good effect in your type of scenario.
"So this is supposed to cast doubt on his credentials as a climate scientist... how, exactly?"
Well if he thinks that the Earth was created in 4004BC then all the data from past climate changes doesn't exist. It may be the warmest its been since the last ice age, but the last ice age was before the earth was created.
Just to play Devil's Advocate, ID proponents are not necessarily the kind of creationist you're talking about. Many believe that some sort of intelligence was behind the initial creation of the Universe and didn't interfere with anything after the initial conditions were set, not that everything was created in six days six thousand years ago.
I believe in the science of cosmology, but I lack the hubris to claim there wasn't some sort of intelligence behind it. I don't believe there was, but I can't prove or disprove it, nor can anyone else.
As for this paper, he was a co-author, and it has been peer reviewed. Nobody is saying things haven't been getting warmer either. They are just saying that the expected mechanism, an increase in atmospheric humidity as well as cirrus clouds, isn't happening because the Earth is shedding more IR than the models pushed by AGW proponents claimed.
Your shocked face looks similar to that of your mother. I see it everytime I unzip my pants in front of her face prior to the futile attempts which follow to fit even the head of my cock in her mouth. Don't worry though she's a trooper and tries her very best, so I don't hit her when she can't deep throat me.
You really should get that looked out. Elephantiasis in the genital region is nothing to take lightly. How did you let an infected mosquito bite you there anyways?
That's why I prefer the term Republicrats. We stopped having a two party system a long time ago. Instead now we have a shell game and most of the sheeple eat it up.
My father is in his 70's now and has had no trouble making the transition. He never touched a PC until he retired. He loves his iPad now. My father in law is a few years older than my dad and he's extremely well versed in computers and modern technology. Certainly there are those who let the world pass them by, but it's hardly a forgone conclusion.
That whoosing sound you heard was the GP's joke flying over your head. It's amazing how so many otherwise intelligent geeks have no sense of humor, or a broken humor detector at the very least.
Yeah, it should be up to 5, Insightful. Obama had not done one thing to earn the Prize when he got it. I'll get modded down for this, but he was the Affirmative Action Nobel winner.
Turn the page to today and he's still done nothing worthy of a Nobel.
"- If you wanted to play any of the games online, you had to have a PSN account. Which meant you had to provide a credit card whether you were ever going to buy anything or not."
Completely wrong. I have a PSN account and never, ever gave them credit card info.
My daughter is now almost 21 and remarkably mature for her age, but if she were 16 and had acted that way I'd have smashed her phone. Parents today are huge enablers of such selfish behavior.
The part I don't get is how Android, Chrome and Chrome OS is "scorching the earth for 250 miles around Google". What are those offerings doing that prevent a viable search competitor from rising?
I don't agree with the hyperbole either, but I think the point the submitter was making is that by keeping their free products and services in the forefront they maintain dominance. Then there is the fact that the vast majority of users won't bother changing to a competitor on Google provided platforms/mediums. Google is continuously honing their search algorithms as well, making it even harder for a competitor to step up.
You missed the point of what khasim was saying. Yes, search is their core product that is presented to the public, but their revenue is driven by their advertising. The more people search, the more targeted ads they see. Their real core product is advertising and has been ever since they went public.
So features that a lot of people might want and that could be useful are irrellevant just because Apple isn't interested? That statement of yours right there underscores exactly why a lot of people have a distaste for Apple. "Do it our way, shut up, and LIKE it," seems to be their mantra these days.

Grrrrr...Middle Ages, not Middle Aged. Even with preview my middle ages brain sometimes typos.

You should care. A resistive touch screen is far less capable than a capactive one. For one you can't do multi-touch on resistive screens.

We should have continued building and updating designs over the last 30 or 40 years, but anti-nuclear nuts have left us all pretty damn screwed.
Ah, the familiar mating cry of the pro-nuclear lobbyist.
Come to me babies! I want to screw you (for 20,000 years).
Ah, the familiar mating cry of the Luddite.

Here, let me google that for you.
That wasn't so hard now, was it?

It only would apply to smokers who expect taxpayers to foot the bill for their healthcare. Your argument doesn't make sense in that context.
