One of the most important thing anyone in a skilled trade can learn, is how to use their tools effectively and not just that specific model of tool, but the tool generally. I have had numerous technicians (Test Equipment Calibration), that come in with a couple of years experience and have no clue on how to really use the scope. They attach the source of the waveform and hit, "auto", boom there it is. Seeing as you are in an educational environment, you might want to find the balance between luxury and education. I learned on the Tek 2246 and the 2430A, not all spiffy but I sure can use a scope. If that is beyond the scope of your lab, then disregard my comment all together. I have used both the Textronix TDS620A and Agilent Infineium(sp), they are both great scopes. I did like the probe set on the Agilent much better though.
While I love open source software and their are many mature offerings out there, the school district has to be able to maintain and use that open source software. Remember that while the school districts are scrapping by for textbooks, teacher salary, and even toilet paper, finding talented IT personel is few and far between. Having worked for a large district and a small district, I can tell you that the good "techs" don't stick around long. So you usually end up with the not so talented people sticking around and not being able to upgrade/install/backup al of this open source software. So what happens? You end up with third-party, closed software with a support plan. Could open source save lots of money? Yes, but only with the right staff and pay to support it.
I do remember reading that Apple operated ITMS at a loss in order to sell iPods. So, I agree, who cares. I tend to buy some music from ITMS and some from the stores, it just really depends if I feel like going to the store or not....
I have had several issues like this. A factor to include is the Video card...if you have an Apple Studio Display attached to it. The ADC Connector provides 28V DC, I have seen an improperly seated video card or a loosely connected ADC connector cause power supply failure.
It seems to be a problem with WebCore Framework.(I think it's a framework.) iTunes 4 uses the same resources and you cannot purchase music behind a proxy server. It also breaks the music sharing feature of iTunes 4.
How much does Windows cost? Remember, Apple doens't car if it is an upgrade or a full install. $100 isn't bad compared to $300+ for a full copy of Windows. Most likely, your like most people and will get it from a friend or download it, without paying anyway.
The HarryFox Agency tried to do the same thing to the Online Guitar Archive (OLGA) a couple of years ago. Kinda like lyrics.ch, the OLGA is comprised of ear transcriptions of songs for the guitar. Can't they just let it alone.
The Metro Ethernet ranges are dumb as well. I wish the telco's would fix that.......AtoM anyone?

Maybe now Quark.com will make it into the default Safari history population.

This sounds like the South Park movie part 2
