For your second point, I think you are right on. If Google can succeed at this, all they will have likely done is proven the jobs weren't highly skilled in the first place. If that's the basic truth, wages will fall due to market forces.
Though much of the book is timeless, it is interesting to recognize throughout the text the immediacy of WWII and the effects it had on Lewis's thinking and work.
The article isn't worded very well, but looking at the pictures, I think it simply means wherever the console *used* blue before, that blue color will now be brighter. AFAIK, the default *background* has always been black for good old cmd.exe.
Like any decision, it isn't just cost, but cost/benefit. If I basically never need cash, why carry it? The risk is really small, sure, but the benefit is small, too.
