  1. Re:What does it do differently? on Learning PHP 5 · · Score: 1

I have used ASP.net and PHP4. I love PHP4 for my personal page and the simple things that I make but for making web pages that feel less like the web and more like a native program, it seems like asp.net has an edge. Does PHP5 attempt to create some of the framework that makes it possible to work with data without page reloads etc... it seems like this is what ASP.net does differently. To me, when I work with some asp.net apps, you load the page once and everything else works in the background without refreshing the page with every submit

The interesting thing about Singapore is that most of the country's water comes across a bridge from Malaysia. They are in an interesting Military / Strategic dilemma where their dependence on another country for fresh water is a severe national security issue. To be able to recycle waste water and use it for drinking is a huge deal that could lead to aqua independence from Malaysia. If only the US could make gasoline out of CO2!

XFree86 *FEELS* slower than windows. As long as this happens, average people (like me) will feel reluctant to use *nix as their desktop. Why not take a tip from Apple. It should be possible to have a version of XFree86 that takes full advantage of a modern graphics card. I believe that OS 10.2 uses OpenGL for the entire interface?

The issue with linux which so many people tout as the strong point is that there are so many desktops competing for users. There are 2 main standards out there, gnome and kde. This is confusing for most people. Redhat noticed that and made them both look the same.
