But what on earth happened to going and doing stuff with your kids? It's not like it's forbidden after they learn to play by themselves. I've got better things to do than play with kids.
I'm an adult.
I can't understand why you had 'em in the first place, it's not like Earth needs more people.
And? It's not like their employers are going to sue them.
I'm sure they had to stipulate that they wouldn't. Note: giving someone a promise you won't sue them for distributing their material for a given purpose is not the same as giving them a license to distribute your material.
Besides which, what relevance does any of this have? Despite what you may hear coming out of the copyright propaganda factory, it's not illegal to download...
and if they try to doge the the fact that "they" put it out there by saying it was this "company that does the dirty work" then you point the finger and say - hey did this company have distrubution rights? if not then they are in alot of trouble - if so then they gave the stuff away - and if they say that the company doesn't have distrbution rights but what they where doing wasn't violating the their copyright then well damn many people will be happy to see them say that cause that can be applied so many ways.. I would have thought people had learned this by now.. Copyright holders can pick and choose who they want to sue. There's no law that says they must wield their power or lose it and there's no law that says they must wield their power equally.
It focuses on Open Source games but it also lists many of the other titles that are available for Linux.
Most of these games, if not all, are also available on Windows, of course. The first game listed, Warsow is an excellent Open Source FPS, whether you're on Linux or Windows. No Mac client, though I'm sure an interested Mac developer could rectify that.
Yep, we're just like artisans. Toiling away without any standards. No codification of best practices. We even have our little cults: extreme programming, object and aspect oriented programming, spiral and waterfall methodologies, not to mention the plethora of programming languages. When programmers get old we don't put them into teaching positions to pass on their arcane knowledge, we make them managers and prohibit them from even looking at the code.
It's not surprising the software is so crumby, it's only surprising that it works at all.
Either 1. put an emulator and the original ROMs up, or 2. do a rewrite that has EXACTLY the same gameplay as the original. None of this Donkey Kong with the hammers in the wrong place and the second level missing crap.
Last time I looked at them, they were hideously expensive and there was no applications for them (and yes, I suppose those two are related).
Seems to be the case with a lot of things these days. People want to make the early adopters pay for the privilege of being first, that's fine, but you actually have to give away units to third party developers too, or you'll never get a killer app.
It matters because they invented the term. Just like all those people in the 80s use threw around the term "object oriented" when they weren't even close (yes, I'm looking at you Oberon). Some words have meaning that is free to change with use. Other words are jargon and have very specific meanings which are defined by an authority, and are not subject to change.
I don't really give two shits about who owns what trademark. The OSI coined the term, therefore their definition is the correct one. If you want to use it in some weird esoteric way, go elsewhere.
Don't worry, it's only a matter of time before doing something which is "traumatic" to another adult is reason enough to lock someone up. Our society is turning into a bunch of cry babies who are "traumatized" by just about everything, so that will mean everyone will be in jail.
Oh wait, never mind, we're all treated like inmates anyway.
When I was a kid, they used 20c coins.. no-one returned the trolleys. Us kids used to collect them for pocket money, and the joy of outrunning the fat security guards who would chase us around the underground carpark.
Now the only few stores that do this use $2 coins and everyone returns them.

Stop breeding already.
It's not a crime to download movies.. so why would this be entrapment?
Meh, it doesn't matter anyway. There's no law against "possession of unlawful copies"... yet.

Cause you have to tell me if you are.
Who? Media Sentry? What makes you think they have any special right to license big media's copyrights?
There's a reason why they contract others to do their dirty work.
Some people agree with him, therefore it is accurate for him to speak for them.
Yup, and that's exactly the point I was making. People who are so easy traumatized are the problem. Toughen up.
Here's a good 3 part article on Linux gaming:

We don't get training. Unless it is in how to use revision control systems or avoid sexual harassment lawsuits.
Compare this with, say, a DBA or a network engineer. They get training which is actually relevant to their job.
You didn't hire anyone to do the investigation for you.. you did it yourself.. therefore these laws clearly don't apply.

Wow, that's the first time I've ever seen capitalism applied to justify the appearance of aliens.
Well done.
I can't believe the civilization as advanced as ours is full of people who can't even program a computer. It's just odd.

Australia.
Where our $2 coin is smaller than our $1 coin.
Kinda like how, in the US, your 10c coin is smaller than your 5c coin.

read it.

Open Source it is not.
