    Its hard to program a backdoor into the kernel when its open source. Intentional backdoors can be eliminated that way. Also unintentional backdoors when they are discovered are usually fixed promptly and the person to blame is the original coder for that part of linux

    I think this course of events is sort of ironic. Possibly they were motivated for other goals in their previous outlook on linux. Either that or they feel its good enough and won't endanger their security for there product at least.

    Languages don't die because technologly progresses. Languages die out because they prove to be too limited in what you could do with the language or the expressiveness in the language. Either that or the niche it filled before doesn't exist anymore. Languages that are truely effective although they might not be popular they still don't die (lisp for example).

    How about encrypting the whole IRC connection? SIRC? Use Openssl with certificates or GPG? This wouldn't be very challenging.

    I believe most cheats are in the form that they modify the current running memory of the game. No cheat I have heard of that modifies gaming files. That is usually modified for piracy instead of cheating.

    I think that the lower overhead because this uses red lazers will be the biggest selling point of the technologly. Since the other alternatives are very radical this seems to be just right. Also since it is adaptable to blu ray at 1 terabyte eventually!!! This stuff looks like it has a much better change of success.

    Really, since the google search results are public knowledge why wouldn't microsoft crawl google's stuff? If msn search can crawl the web why should it limit itself to everything except google/yahoo? Although this tactic may work the importation of all of googles massive search database might take awhile.

    Even thought that profits are up for the MPAA this is only through increased ticket prices. Ticket counts are continually going down at this point .

    Not really, alchemists were trying everything under the sun that could possibly convert something into gold. Brute forcing is a proven technique where you have an educated guess of what the problem is and then you use compuational cycles to do it.

    I think denying a primal instinct is unnatural and doesn't work. Sometimes everyone is blood thirsty and for most people video games will suffice. The really screwed up people settle for the real thing.

    How about instead of paying 2 million dollars to ad agencys trying to wrestle back the name instead do something much more constructive. Fund software that will STOP spam in its tracks, put up reward money for spammers etc.. That would be much more effective if we didn't have to use the word anymore.

    If you understand that this creation program requires a quantum computer at minimum with a lot of qubits sure. You might have to port linux to a quantum computer though.

    Most of the time those programmers are doing constructive things. Its only the underpaied programmers that are disgruntled or program viruses for profit thats who would write the good malicious code.

    I believe even though it is feasible to create a file that has the same hash as the other file its not a feasible comprimise. So MD5 is safe for now but given the paranoia when using openbsd they probally would or should provide an SHA1 hash.

    We could do experiments along the way that could only be done in space. Do studies of long term exposure to weightlessness. See if certain biological systems and other systems function differently in space. If one of the voyagers are artistic you could write a novel or make some art etc...

    Yes its possible. They use a paper based spring, very annoying. You can use a knife to block those popups though.

    This it true, but for the most part Apple can possibly offer a better product given the way it ties with the operating system. Google Desktop search may be limited by this fact.

    I agree, I was running 10.1 and then upgraded to 10.3. There is a whole user interface redo, support for rendevous, a journaling file system much better support for unix, an x windowing system, ipv6 support expose and a host of other reasons why that was a good upgrade. Although I didn't pay full price for it it was one of the best upgrades and I believe I got my moneys worth.

    You almost say that thats a bad thing? Besides you don't need to pee, or get drinks if the things that you have are sufficently close. Drink a bottle of whatever drink and pee it out in the same bottle. Problem solved ;-)

    Sure with a free operating system you could probally pull of a computer with reasonable specs. I bought a 35 dollar computer that is a pentum 2 at 333 mhz. Then I upgraded the memory for about another 35. Then you upgrade the processor to a 733 for about 10-20 bucks. Well under a hundred dollars and still reasonable.

    The reasoning behind the CC license is much less restrictive thatn the GNU FDL. Possibly a much better idea is asking the owners to release it under a dual licence. I believe the CC stuff is able to be released under the GNU FDL. Also if they aren't compatible you could just have a wikipedia entry giving a description and then linking to that site for the original content. This is a much better idea because it isn't wikipedia that controls this it is the original authors.
