hehe, that was a funny post. i don't agree that applications need to target some lowest common denominator 4-bit framebuffer; why not just target kde? microsubversion of qt? have you really suffered qt incompatibilities? as a gentoo user surely you haven't have you, since you compile everything against the qt libs that you have also self-compiled?
anyway, you are a funny writer and i'm gonna look forward to more of your stuff.
Fear will keep the local systems in line. Fear of this illiterate, dyslexic, religious fucknut that we elected. Well, sort of elected, sort of appointed.
The local news is good, but the national/international is bad - they seem to just extract pieces from the NYT. And the Entertainment section is crap - nothing but TV and mainstream movies. The comics suck too. (Mallard Fillmore - what a waste of space).
well most of the world already holds the US hostile, so I guess GWB will have to bomb the whole world. Oh wait, he already is, one country at a time.

But in this case, it looks as if people inside Boeing are the ones revealing the trouble (anonymously).

What do you say about one of the above articles saying that the problems were with Boeing, not NASA?:
Boeing transferred shuttle jobs to Houston in a consolidation that cost the company scores of its most experienced shuttle engineers in the past two years - including some of those who invented the methodology for debris damage and thermal analysis.
... Boeing did indeed worry that the move to Houston could lead to a loss of knowledge in the shuttle program. When the company realized that employees were not going to move from California to Houston, they set up a "Knowledge Capture Program" to prevent a brain drain.
... A former shuttle subsystems manager who still works for Boeing in California said the Knowledge Capture Program was "a total joke."
Above you said that State of Florida did nothing wrong and merely enforced the law. Now you're saying they implemented reforms. Why were reforms needed if nothing was done wrong?
Also, why did the State agree to settle with the NAACP (and pay $90,000 of their legal costs) if the NAACP had no case?
"The settlement is quick to point out that there was no charge of discrimination or election fraud by Catherine Harris, Jeb Bush, or any other Florida election official. Its a non-story."
So you're saying, because they settled, that there is nothing to the charges? That doesn't follow. From the agreement:
It is mutually understood by the Parties that nothing contained in this Agreement shall... be considered an admission by Plaintiffs of an inability to prove the allegations raised in the lawsuit.
The NAACP agreed to drop further legal action in return for the State of Florida's enactment of reforms on how they enforce the election law.
It doesn't mean that descrimination at the polls did not take place. Indeed, in testimony before Congress, one NAACP official said:
While many Americans may decry the fact that some people s rights were trampled on last November, the NAACP is especially outraged and insulted by what happened...It is no longer legal, but as we just recently saw, it still happens.
From the article: "Iraqi exile groups have accused the government of withholding food from political opponents and rewarding loyalists with extra rations. But Torben Due, the senior U.N. World Food Program official here, said his organization, which has conducted more than 1 million inspections of the system since the oil-for-food arrangement was enacted, has uncovered no significant evidence of fraud or favoritism."
(I haven't used any of these on Linux; I've used Matlab on a Sun back in the days of fvwm2 so I'm *guessing* it will run under more modern window managers without having to mess with anything..)
"What were we before the 14th Ammendment? Yes, that's right, our rights were unalienable::not revokable, nor able to be abridged."
Hehe! Funny stuff. No, your rights can be revoked after "due process of law". See the Fifth Amendment. They can take your property away too (after giving you "just compensation" of course).
So you should say, "What were we before the 5th Amendment?"

Have you tried running linux on that IBM mainframe? That would be cool to see KDE 3.1 running next to some green screen COBOL apps :)
linux on ibm mainframes
Get yer Mathematica for Linux right here..
or if you prefer Matlab for Linux...
or perhaps Maple for Linux?

That's a pretty funny site. Look at the advertisements for one of the products they sell
"Protect your Web server identity with ServerMask!
Why let anyone find out you're running IIS server? Don't tempt potential hackers!"
didn't ya see, they they switched to oracle on linux :)
I wonder if Ariel Sharon will ever be tried for war crimes, then.
