    me == femgeek.
    S.O. == boygeek.

    we met on irc two years ago.
    a month or so later, he flew across the country to take me to a ball. at first, i wasn't sure. before the end of the weekend, we knew...
    we were an item.

    i started flying to cali every 3-4 weekends to see him, while every other night we talked on the phone for a couple of hours. it was hard, esp. with me in grad school. somehow, we kept going. for a year and a half, in fact.

    a few months ago, i moved to cali. he flew east to help me on the drive. on the way west, he proposed. i accepted. the ring is beautiful. we live together. our two year anniversary is coming up.

    irc sucks now, but i thank god for the days when it was ok, cause look what it brought me.

    ...and they lived happily ever after.

    i guess we can assume you didn't get harassed on a daily basis, then. what you may call social skills i call brainwashing and herd mentality. all it takes is one "popular" kid to hate another one, and they're toast. i don't follow that. i don't know where people learn to be so cruel, but i usually start pointing my finger at a) human nature and b) school.

    then again, i'm a proud mississippi public school system dropout. saving myself three years i would have wasted in HS and going to college instead was worth INFINITELY more than any so-called social skills i could have potentially developed. personally, i am glad i am not an overtly cruel or herd-minded person.

    women aren't greedy on the whole. we're human. when a young girl is scared because she doesn't know what she wants to do with her life, and she resorts to marrying a guy to gain some stability, you KNOW that some of you out there would do the same thing. and some wouldn't.

    don't knock us because we have different opportunities, or LACK of them, than you.

    and this bitching about an impartial system?? take it from a woman, i know all about that. no, i am not crying discrimination or any of that crap, i am merely saying that impartial systems never exist, and sometimes they work for you, and sometimes they work against you. deal with it.

    i still can't get over the premise of this topic. i thought that, if ANYWHERE, fellow geeks would understand what being stereotyped against feels like and would have some compassion for their fellow men and WOMEN. grow a heart!

  21. what about the rest of us?? on Star Wars Widows · · Score: 1

    that article seems to conveniently forget that there actually ARE fems that are huge star wars fans. it, of course, finds it sensationalism by dragging out the most exagerrated cases. I would never even consider the dating potential of a guy based on his SW enthusiasm, so the he fact can't be denied that i have a slew of SW toys laying around and my boyf likes the movies but doesn't give half a damn.

    i was one of those chicks you saw in full amidala face makeup. i was there and i was excited!! my boyf was home trying to get another machine to talk on the network.

    it does kinda annoy me that there is only one major female character per episode. honestly, i went expecting amidala to be a token female decoration. fortunately, this was not the case.

    the only redemption for this imbalance (for me) is the fact that amidala and leia especially are very strong female characters. there was no demureness about leia; she was as harsh and bitchy as i am in real life. most movies don't portray women in that manner and thus influence the whole female subliminal-guilt-trip-for-being-opinionated thing.

    overall, leia and amidala may be rather token due to the fact that there are so many male characters, but they are actually significant in their own right and definitely hold their own.

    movie opinion: great!
