What I meant to say is that maybe fold changes in size are only able to expressed verbally as increases. Thus we have the use of "times larger" or "1/20th the size (of something larger)".
So is this just a convention in English? If I understand correctly, only increases in size are quantifiable in language. Saying x is twenty times as a large as y or that y is one twentieth as large as x is correct, but to say that y is twenty times as small as x or that x is a twentieth as small as y is incorrect. All four phrases mean the same thing, but the latter two are unacceptable. Is this accurate? Please let me know, as I do enjoy semantics.:)
never heard about this Simonyi person, but what about Andy Grove? or even John von Neumann and most of the leaders of the manhattan project? all hungarians. Tesla spoke fluent hungarian.

How are you supposed to patch this thing? I follow exactly what's in the README, gzip -cd patchXX.gz | patch -p0, but it gives errors all over the place to the effect of "file could not be found. Which file would you like to patch?" What's going on?
I've heard a Nintendo PR person comment on the issue of exclusion of DVD. She stated that since the movie industry was in direct competition (?!) with the gaming industry, it would be foolish to include a DVD player. Perhaps they want people playing and buying more games and watching and buying fewer movies.
I'm pretty sure a benign theocratic dictatorship was the most successful form of government ever. That is, ancient Egypt had the most effective governmnet ever. Too bad they wasted so much money on those pyramids:P
Selfreplicating RNA (a system of catalytic RNA and template RNA) was one of the first steps on the way to the evolution of life, which, to the chagrin of theologists and churchgoers everywhere, was hardly a divine event. Stem cell research sounds great. If it does yield productive results, perhaps the government could offer incentives to donate embryos for a mother on welfare greater than those availble by having another child.:o
P100 toshiba laptop with a 1.1 gig drive, 40 megs ram, and an 11.3 inch TFT. Runs linux very well; this was the machine i installed linux on for the first time, and it worked like a charm! The PCMCIA modem simplified the process of getting on the net for the first time. I didn't have any of the typical newbie problems dealing with winmodems.
I am now also encoding all of my music to ogg. Since I dont have a portable mp3 player, is there any reason for me to use mp3 rather than ogg? To me, an average listener, ogg sounds the same as mp3, and I have to pay for an mp3 encoder while the ogg encoder is free. If any of my friends ask me for mp3s, i will simply give them oggs and point them to xiph's homepage, where they can presumably download an ogg plugin for winamp. This is just my own personal effort to promote ogg.
F keys on the left are great. I like the large spacebar of my MS natural keyboard, but the rest of the keyboard leaves much to be desired. OT: does anyone know of a hardwired DVORAK keyboard, one that -doesnt- have a QWERTY legend next to the DVORAK legend?

It appears the AIM service has been taken offline by AOL.
