If you buy one of these CD's and it doesn't play, you have the right to return the CD for a refund. If the store wants to give you another copy of the CD take it and return that one too. This should drive Sony's costs so high that the format will be too expensive to keep producing. Short term this hurts the retailer, but they will have to send this stuff back to the distributor and the word - and cost - will get back to Sony.
Is the issue that XWindows isn't as fast as it could be, or that the implementation you are using isn't as fast as it could be? I'm not looking to get flamed here, nor am I pushing one product over another. However I did recently try a commercial X product on my Linux machine and the difference between it and the default server shipped with Mandrake (not mentioning names on purpose here) was tremendous. The commercial product, while not cheap, was noticably faster and "prettier" than the default one.
I have to imagine the WP folks were among those hardest hit. It's a shame, but I can honestly say that I've had more issues with WordPerfect 10 than I've had with any version of WordPerect since 6.0 for Windows (and I've used them all except 7.0). Not sure if sp3 (for WPO2002) is helping yet or not. However, if Corel can't release solid code in a version 10 product I'd question if it makes sense to continue with the product.
This was the first thing I thought of. I've been consulting for a few years now (actually, almost 10 now) and I'm finally seeing a few of my clients embracing OpenOffice.Org over the pricey upgrades to Office. Now if someone would add an Outlook clone (Evolution port?) to OpenOffice.Org I'd be set.
Look into low power FM. If you are just looking for the hardware, Ramsey Electronics has some nice starter kits and everything you need to get started in low power FM. Also, check out this FCC page discussing the Low Power FM radio service and it's regulation.
I would highly recommend you take a look at ham radio and maybe Monitoring Times and Popular Communications magazines. Sounds like you might be a good cadidate for a radio hobbyist. Good luck!
No need to check the facts...

When you work for a MS company I guess "close enough" is good enough. A couple of incorrect items:
Finnish is spelled with two "n"'s, not one.
Evolution looks like Oulook, not like the Windows desktop. That would be KDE or Gnome.
I don't recall seeing an email client in either OpenOffice 1.0 or StarOffice 6.0 (and I just installed StarOffice 6.0 this am). I really don't think you can count that thing in SO 5.2 as a real email client.
Pack your portable shortwave receiver and a 20' piece of wire and you'll be able to listen wherever you are! I'm going home to warm up my R-75 and R-5000 right now!
Try out OpenOffice.org for a "free" office suite on Windows. It's working well here on Win2K. Need WordPerfect filters or templates? StarOffice 6.0 just came out and adds those features to OpenOffice.org's code.
Replace your file/print/mail servers with Linux. Consider moving databases to something Linux-friendly. Your users should never know the difference - only the admins will.
With these two chances alone you remove the need for several MS licenses:
* Windows Server CAL's * Windows Exchange/SQL Server CAL's * Office licenses for each desktop
Need remote access? Teach your users to use ftp via their browsers, ssh, telnet, all the "real" remote access tools. Now you have removed two more pieces of MS licensing - Terminal Server CAL's and Windows 2000/XP desktop liceses for remote users.
While this hasn't been the best short term strategy in the market for the past few years, it's definitely the smartest thing you can do right now. The job market for SA's is not very good right now. In fact, it's the worst it's been in maybe 20+ years. You are much better off long term by getting the rest of your education and then looking into some junior SA jobs. Good luck!
I know RADIUS would authenticate for the network gear and the NT/Win2K hosts, and I imagine there must be a RADIUS "client" for Solaris and Linux as well. NIS (or YP) would also be a possible solution, but I've never used either to authenticate Windows.
...I have had my PC reboot when dropping my Vx into the serial cradle. I receive a static shock as soon as the Vx (which I'm holding) makes contact with the cradle contacts. The jolt causes my machine to bounce. This sucks with ext2fs - you never know if the machine will come back up or not!

I had to try just once!
Or just buy from a discounter that burns the iso's for you and sells them for $5 a distro.
Has "Slashdotted" made it to the dictionary yet?

Norwalk, CT. to LA? Is there a direct flight?
