Look at the data points: -No description of AA degree -USMC infantry (aka grunt, if this person had any more useful aptitudes, the USMC would have placed him in a more specialized role) -automobiles can be better... the big non issue of our times, sure they can be better, if you don't factor in infrastructure changes, and expect them to only operate at room temperature conditions year round -alternative energy... the new religion of our time... fuel cells are storage, not generation... wind power... for cars? oh yeah, totally not a troll -CS to compliment an ME degree... that is like studying cosmology to build rockets.
Typical Massachusetts, exploit the poor to create "visual narratives". The whole state is deranged by some kind of progressive-ism mind virus. Consent is easy to get when there are no alternatives in the 3rd world hell holes they ship these too, this is just disgusting.
Nothing unexpected here. Last week the mayor of Boston declared that he didn't want Boston to be the kind of place where an illegal immigrant could be deported for stealing a car (which he defined as a minor crime).
We are talking about the bluest of blue states. In the ENTIRETY or statewide elected offices (legislature, governor's council, attorney general, governor's secretaries, etc) there are _less than a dozen_ Republicans. The state is an entirely owned subsidiary of the Democrat party. They still have the gall to blame every problem on Republicans, despite there being virtually none in the state government. The legislature is always coming up with these idiotic plans, and if they don't pass the first time, they just keep bringing them up every year until they pass, be it 3 years or a decade. The governor just announced his desire to raise the gas tax, because gas prices are so low and we all have so much money to spend...
You can expect this law to pass. 4th Amendment be damned, they already gutted the 2nd Amendment in that state.
This is the America you can expect under Obama. His stooge Janet Napalitano is head of the Department of Homeland Security, to which ICE reports, and somehow MPAA/RIAA IP enforcement is now a major factor in "homeland security." Say what you want about Bush, but it was a democrat president that signed the DMCA into law, and a democrat president that is overseeing this warping of homeland security into hunting down all international "pirates".
Apple can run their OS X based iCloud infrastructure on top of VMWare all they want, using INTERNAL ONLY builds of OS X that will happily boot and run within a VMWare virtual machine, and being the owner of OS X, they are not subject to their own licensing terms. For all we know, Apple already does this to support its online presence and existing services infrastructure. There is no reason to think that Apple has any interest or intentions of bringing to market an OS X license that allows it to be a guest on non apple hardware.
This whole story summary is a 1 cent rumor wrapped in a thin layer of unrelated truth.
If the other two cable network news outlets had some second tier twitter account hacked, it would just be a minor footnote story about how insecure the internet is. But because it it is the evil "Faux News" who doesn't tow the progressive line, it is a major headline and an opportunity for the childlike masses to stroke themselves into a frenzy of Fox bashing and demonizing. You can start your countdown now for the Palin/Bachman/Trump troll threads and bashfests, and the unclever anti-fox KOS memes.
As seen with family guy, if a cancled series released on DVD gets a high volume of sales, producers start to catch on that they made a mistake.
I know I'll be purchasing my copy when it becomes available! It really was an interesting show, a departure from the typical StarTrek/Babylon5 mushy sci-fi.
Of course, the impression I got after all of this, was that if I couldn't vote against them in an upcoming election, they didn't care about my opinion.
Of course they are not interested about your opinion, why should they be? Our system is one of representation. These officials are Representatives and are supposed to act in accordance with the wishes of their constituents. They do not represent you, so really there is no reason for them to be concerned with your wishes.
The only time you can expect a representative to listen is if you are a voter in their district or you are a corporation. This is how a Republic works, and a Republic is what the US is.
I think the future of OpenSource and FreeSoftware lays in the hands of those who live in developing countries.
Often these are people who live in active comunities with the spirit of working together to achieve a common goal. This sense of comunity lends itself strongly to the goals of the FreeSoftware and OpenSource movements.
In the next century we may see a role reversal where the developing nations of south america may serve as a model for the rest of us, as opposed to european and north american economics acting as the model.
How much demand is there for running solaris on x86 machines? Half the point of going with solaris is using the Sun hardware.
I don't see how solaris 8 has anything to offer over the many linux distributions currently available, most of which already offer superior desktop environments. Until of course solaris 9 is released, which will be using ximian gnome as its primary desktop GUI.
While this is interesting as a toy feature for home experimentation, this isn't really huge news.
Interesting to see a linux division be purchased. To my knowledge Corel Linux was just a modified caldera distribution... of course mandrake used to be just a modified redhat distribution.
What assests is this company really purchasing? Is there a service/support component to corels linux structuring?
GNU/Linux has shown us that telecomuting for software development is unnecisary, since having an actual office is no longer a requirement for a software project.
How many succesful large FreeSoftware projects have actual offices? Not very many.
I think in the future we will see people who actualy commute to be the novelty.
From what I understand, Linux and Windows NT have had IPv6 support for quite some time now. The bigger barrier to adoption is that router technology for IPv6 is not quite ready for primetime. When Cisco and Nortel get their act in gear, IPv6 should be up and running in the wild in no time.
Many high-level languages compile into C code, which is then compiled with gcc or whatever. Do any use Forth instead? I understand Forth is a stack-based language: doesn't that present problems when compiling for CPUs that mostly work using registers?
A couple of years ago we installed SuSE (I think it was a 5.x or something) and YaST just wasn't up to my installation needs (that I be able to teach some kid network admins how to do it too). Red Hat was the way to go then, but now...
I like the increased useability in the install on all distro's these days. makes it as simple to install Linux as to format a Windows NT 4.0 box...
That said, i still do all my admin on the command line
I've got a copy of this one, and I highly recommend it.
If you are a solaris admin, definitely keep this book on hand, it is invaluable as a reference and general guide book. It does miss a few of the new features found in solaris 8, but more then makes up for it with it's broad coverage of general knowledge.
Suppose an OEM wants to sell dual boot machines, but is afraid of Microsoft's wrath. What's to stop them from selling a computer with Windows-only pre-installed at time of sale, and offering to install BeOS afterwards for a nominal charge?
9/10 for trolling, but it is still obvious.

Clearly you haven't spent any significant time in MA.

I think the clearest choices for a production environment are XFS and JFS, as they have many years of proven reliability.
Generally, datacenter environments demand reliability over speed, and a good track record wins the day in selecting technologies.
When we implemented our database backend, we decided to go with SGI's JFS based on years of production use. So far we havn't encountered any problems!

I stayed up late last night checking out the new features. Very cool stuff.
The format support is amazing, not to mention the standard-based XML support.
I would definitely expect KOffice 1.1 to lead the charge in retaking the office desktop environment out of the hands of Redmond.

What part do you see Forth playing in the future of GNU/Linux and other FreeSoftware and OpenSource operating systems (*BSD, *[A-Z]*[T/N]*[X/CS] etc)?
How do you forsee such a synergy affecting the popularity of both parties?

There is a great mirror located Here:l

Much faster response time, seems this server won't be slashdotted as quickly as the original.
