Okay, so a relay flips the mains power off when there's no signal, and presumably the relay coil is off in this state. But when the monitor comes back on, presumably the relay needs to flip into its on state. Surely that would increase the "on" power consumption of the monitor, making it not very green for high-use applications.
Unless they have a two-coil or polarity-reversing relay and some clever magnets on the relay contacts so one state doesn't need to be constantly fighting a spring.
Speaking of taxing the innumerate, can someone help me out here?
Is it true that in the US the winner of a $370M prize doesn't actually get that amount, and what they do get is the prize money AFTER a hefty tax deduction?
Because in most developed countries with lotteries (I know, almost an oxymoron), any tax payable has to be paid by the group offering the prize, so the winner of a $1M prize actually gets it as advertised.
Come to think of it wasn't there some guy a while ago who won a near-space flight but had to turn it down because of the big tax bill he'd have to pay on it? It seems insane.
Except for cars I find the concept of running air conditioning for cooling rather foreign. Are you referring to climates where the ambient temperature exceeds body temperature (37degC), or is it a cultural thing where you live to run air conditioners in the summer instead of pedestal fans?
Of course if you run it in winter then you're spending $0 on it. You've got yourself a heat transfer unit with a COP of 1. That's less power you need to otherwise spend to keep your living area warm.
(note that I'm assuming you don't use a Heat Pump with a COP above 1. If you do then you'd have to take into account that it could heat your place more efficiently than the PS3).
After having used both for some time, let's just say that this is a rare case where OOo one puts MSO to shame. You can just type "y=(3x^3) over 2x" and the OOo formula editor will parse it for you. And you get all the little clickies to tidy it up.
I don't know. Is it anything like the number of man hours we've spent here trying to recover Word documents that have had their formatting screwed up by MathType?
LaTeX is to MathType about as Blender is to MS Paint - a steeper learning curve and initially intimidating, but produces much better results and is more likely to give you what you want.
Umm, don't most needle-based record players have felt dust rollers that travel ahead of the needle, so the needle never sees the dust?
Why can't a laser turntable do the same? Or to keep in the spirit of zero contact, have a jet of air slightly in front of the beam.
Man, this was all built into my laser turntable I dreamed up back in the '90s. Of course I never actually made one, but in my mind it worked really well...
except you don't hear of too many countries that open their parliamentary sessions opening with "death to Saudi Arabia!" And you don't see UN meetings with muslim leaders sporting world maps with Iran blotted out.
The culture in most predominantly muslim countries includes an intense hatred of Israel. Whether or not that is a justified hatred is another matter. Just don't pretend the hatred is not there, or that it isn't focussed.
You're right, there are many scientists in that category. However there are also many, many scientists who are Christian, many of which subscribe to creationism.
Yes, even biologists. I know, having met several of them.
Simply saying there are many that believe this or that doesn't really prove anything, since there's a very large pool of scientists out there.
I thought what the Wii introduced was a cute gimmick that is fun for about three games before the novelty wears off.
At least that's what everyone in my area seems to have decided. They're nice for making people dance like retards in shop displays but that's about it really.

I think I'd rather vote Grimlock.
...are complete and utter crap, to the point of being unplayable. ...fake speaker on the front.
Sounds like they really did do their homework.

That's why you get with an organization that sends photos too.
A 3D printer that lets you manufacture damn near anything you want, and you're talking D&D figurines?
I don't want to be unkind and ask if you get out much, but surely we can think of better used for this.
The RepRap project, while currently using Polycaprolactone, aims to eventually move over to polylactic acid from corn starch or sugar cane.
The RepRap project aims to do just that.
This is a truly worthwhile undertaking with remarkable possibilities - I wish more people would get behind it.

Honest question.

... as far a we know.
Oh yeah?
Well I find your lack of accurate star wars quotes disturbing.
one of the silliest advertising campaigns of recent history:
Add a new Mac to your, uh, Mac.

Oh, and it does MathML perfectly.

I'm looking forward to the REVA coming to my country, the newer versions of which come with Li-Ion batteries. No more explosive than dead dinos.
That's one reason that anyone serious about Vinyl should really have a laser turntable. The 100th play sounds in theory the same as the first.

Or as a number of unfortunate Valve customers have recently discovered:
Don't cross the Steams.
I know, I know, I'll go sit down now.
Will Wright has become a Nintendo shill. Why don't they just come out and say it?
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the Wii just a slightly souped-up gamecube with a handheld camera?
Perhaps he means the only 6.5 gen console, while the rest are 7th generation.

Thank you for clearing that up. I don't live in America and am not entirely familiar with many aspects of their economy.
