I get sick of people seeing bandwidth as the only difference between dialup and broadband. "I only pay $9.95/month for my 56k. Do you *really* need 256KB/s downstream?"
Hidden costs (and inconveniences): - Dialling up (telco) costs. This really adds up. - Line rental (if you are running a separate phone line for dialup) or the alternative of sharing the phone line with the telephone (and we all know how painful that can be for everyone involved). - *Unreliability* - dialup performance varies so wildly, with constant dropouts, busy signals, line noise etc. This seriously affects the first point also.
It's not just a matter of "dialup is fine for low bandwidth usage". I'd gladly pay broadband fees even for very little bandwidth -- the cost savings make it almost as economical, but a heck of a lot more reliable.
Disclaimer: I'm not from the US, so situation may be slightly different there.
That's because NEW and ORIGINAL games aren't popular news to report about. I mean, sequels get so much attention and so do games based on popular graphics engines BECAUSE we have evidence already that it was successful before, and thus is more likely to be successful in the future. Those types of games ALREADY have fans before they are even released.
New, Original games are GREAT, but they aren't newsworthy until release, because nobody really knows until then.
It's been said to death, but comparing clock frequencies across processor architectures is not kocher.
If big numbers is all you want, then sure - go for P4's. But if you are after real performance (read: high bang per buck) then AMD is without a doubt, unarguably THE choice for the user with a FINITE budget. The fact that AMD is actually holding ground to the P4's is just amazing -- and they are neck and neck -- but the other, and perhaps more important comparison, is cost. Here you don't need to be a Computer Engineer to work out which one is the leader.
This is ridiculous. I don't believe 'piracy' is OK for *any* reason. To justify it like this is just crazy. If a company WANTED you to learn their product, then it would DONATE it to you. You have no right whatsoever to take software that doesn't belong to you and use it for your own purposes.
This is not to say I wouldn't pirate software for educational purposes if I had no other opportunity, but that most certainly does not make it 'ok'. I don't know where people get the notion that 'education' gives you a noble right to take what isn't yours. Sheesh.
If you think that laws to protect children are only there because parents are poor, then think again. Even the most responsible people cannot be around 24/7 to supervise their children until they reach the age of 18. If a 12 year old wanted to get in to an adult film, even good parents couldn't stop them if there were no laws on who could see restricted films at the cinema. (Note: This is just an example.) I believe there needs to be laws and support for parents, as even though I'm sure your parents were super-special, I am 100% sure they weren't perfect. These laws, support and regulations are there to help the rest of the imperfect parents out there.
Actually I believe Windows '95C had USB support, but I guess they disqualify it because 95% of Windows '95 users would be using an older version. That is, if you said "Windows 95 Revision C or later" you would probably just confuse people.
Not to mention that MDs can be rewritten to (erased etc) millions of times. You don't need a computer to record music to them. You can erase tracks wherever you are. You can record using a microphone (eg. conferences, lectures, live concerts etc). In these ways MDs are far superior to your set up.
Not to mention the cost of the unit! Your setup (including CDwriter and Mp3player) would cost several times more than an MD set up .
So before you go around saying Minidisc = SuCK, you should possibly consider the whole argument.
Since when is "suck badly" an insult? Two +5 comments have featured it, but did anyone sit down to think exactly what it meant?
"This movie sucks" -- implies that 'sucking' is a bad thing
"This movie sucks *badly*" -- the movie is bad at sucking?
It's a stupid insult.
If 'sucking' isn't enough, try:
"This *really* sucks" or "This is the suckiest suck that ever sucked suck!"

I like it!
If only all spammers had set-ups like that!
He was referring to the command line, twat!

Just wondering why Towel Day was May 25 and not May 11, the date of Douglas Adams' passing away.

Liquid C02 Smoke?
Smoke = Gas, Liquid = Liquid.
C02 is never a liquid as it sublimates at a very low temperature (goes from solid to gas).
I get your point though, cool idea.

"Slight Correction" ??
Check your facts before trying to correct someone else's - you are completely wrong:
Command and Conquer Release Date: 08/31/1995 (According to Gamespot.com)
Warcraft Release Date: 1994 DOS (According to MobyGames.com)
So as you can see, Warcraft came out a year before C&C did, which makes it *impossible* for it to have licensed the engine from Westwood.
I have no idea where you came up with that tripe.

Holy heck, and I thought there were only half a dozen!
Just wish my darned local bookstore had heard of Scott Adams.
