As a note...in one of the appendixes of pihkal (the latter sections are available online at the www.lycaeum.org) Shulgin recounted something that he had been told...
Actually, that's TIHKAL, not PIHKAL. It's the introduction to appendix B (page 592).
Then again..the discordians among us would point out that we are in the age of Beuracracy....
I think that the music industry is booming in part because of "pirated" music. Honestly, I've purchased a couple hundred dollars worth of CD's because I really like the MP3s that I've downloaded and I can say that a number of my friends have too.
Yeah, I've bought several CDs after listening to MP3s.. Even my girlfriend has bought CDs after listening to the MP3s I've downloaded..:)

Here's the patent. It was filed oct. 26 1995, and issued jan. 21, 1997. If you read the claims, you'll see that this is a very good description of the grafitti language.
They probably need more powerful searches than that. Their patent for searching and sorting text describes a system for searching and sorting "speech-based text, optical-character-read text, stop-word-filtered text, stutter-phrase-filtered text, and lexical-collocation-filtered text," according to claim #2.
You can't take books home from the library without telling them who you are, or else they wouldn't be able to contact you if you don't return the books.. But you can read anything you want in the library without anyone knowing who you are, or what you've read, as long as you don't take away the books. On the web, the server still keeps the original file when you read it, so you have to return it like in the library.
Yes, but what does that have to do with requiring a licence to use the web? No government owns the web, and I haven't heard about anyone being killed because of someone browsing the web..

Hmm.. I'd might want to live to see 1-1-3111, but as a programmer, I sure hope I won't live to see 1-1-10000.. The y2k-problem will probably only be a minor nuisance compared to the y10k-problem..;/
The specs says that the key travel is 3 mm, like on notebook computers, and I haven't seen any notebooks with 3 mm key travel on which the keys click.. The keyboard is not available yet, but they hopefully get it out by xmas. I want one of those.. (and a Palm as well, of course..;)
Hmm.. I just tried the game.. Seems like the link is wrong.. It points to http://chem.external.hp.com/cag/products/game_inde x_1.htm, which just seems to be an image.. The game is at http://chem.external.hp.com/cag/products/game_index.htm..
I was at WoA, and I saw it there.. It looked more like metal and plastic than styrofoam.. But the only connector it had was a USB-port in the front..
The pictures on that page are really bad.. Too bad I forgot to bring my camera to WoA.. I'm sure I could have gotten some much better pictures of it.. Anyone else here who was at WoA and got some pictures of it?

Somehow, I doubt you'll get them at $300 now that everyone who's selling them are being /.'ed.. ;)
Here are some nice ties. :)

I don't think there are many radios which forces you to use this system. On all the radios with RDS that I've seen, you can disable the RDS-system.
Most JPEG compression routines will probably remove the watermark when compressing an image, so just save it as JPEG, and reload before printing.

If they start to require a licence, I'll definately set up a few guerrilla.net nodes!

For a bit more technical info (although a bit old), see http://www.rochester.edu/College/McNair-Program/19 96Journal/BiologyAbstracts96.html. Vicente Planelles seems to have two patents, US05639619 and US05721104, for testing anti-HIV drugs using VPR, but I couldn't find any for using VPR against cancer..

See the bottom of the page.. "The game requires the Macromedia Flash 4 Plugin"..
Just press enter to close the window.. You don't have to use the mouse, you know.. :)
How about -1 on comments with "First Post" in the topic? :)
256 bytes? I really hope they meant kilobytes..

I've got a 604e in my Amiga 4000, and I didn't buy it from Apple.. :)
It didn't come along today.. That page is WAY OLD! It was written December 96.. Oh, and the date IS correct. I saw that page more than two years ago..
