Jesus, Slashdot wouldn't recognize a decent review if it came up and sat on the editors face. I suggest the editors look at some sites that do nothing but reviews, such as pitchforkmedia.com and theonionavclub.com to see how a real review is done. I've seen sixth graders write book reports that are vastly superior to any of Slashdot's reviews. Perhaps they should add a sixth grader to their staff (but make sure its a girl! If its a boy, Jon Katz will probably try to molest him.)

As a black woman I am angered, shocked and saddened to see the Open Source community in general - and Linux users specifically - continuing to perpetuate racism. I know that many of you may not consider yourselves party to any racist beliefs, but by using Linux you are condoning and assisting an OS that oppresses minorities.
Companies such as Microsoft and Apple have made great strides in making technology available to the African-American community. It saddens me to see that Linux has not taken similar steps. While the two companies mentioned above donate time and resources to impoverished schools - and I'd like to take an aside to thank Microsoft for their offer to donate even more to schools to settle some lawsuits - I've yet to hear of a Redhat or a Mandrake that will make its software freely available to our children. By keeping their product out of the hands of those who need it most, these companies are depriving us of our chance to shine!
Additionally when one looks closely at the userbase of Linux, one will see that its made up almost entirely of wealthy white men. Nowhere are my fellow African-American's depicted, and women are almost as rare. I do not believe this to be an accident, not in this day and age. Not with a product that counts as one of its biggest programs something unfortunately named "Samba." I think we all remember this mean-spirited fairy tell that the white devil would tell its children. I would remind Linux of what became of the "Sambas" chain of restaurants when they would not end their racist name.
Further examples can be seen in Apache. This name steals this Native American tribe of their identity. To take a proud race of people and demean them by naming a third-rate web browser after them is criminal.
This blatant racism must be brought to a halt! Such a cancer cannot be allowed to fester within the Open Source community! I encourage my fellow proud, black Brothers and Sisters to boycott this racist OS. There are other alternatives that will not keep us in chains.

Now, this thought is quite patently absurd. To begin with, women simply aren't smart enough to use it. A woman's mind is pre-programmed, if you will, to cook and care for children and little else. Working with a global network of computers is simply not in her genes. When put in front of a computer, your typical woman will stare at it before attempting to use it to prepare dinner for her hard-working husband.
Of course monkey's have been taught sign-language, so it is theoretically possible that a woman, guided by the all-powerful mind of a man, might be able to use some of the more simplistic features of America Online. Perhaps sending a rudimentary instant messange asking how to clean a pair of her spouse's slacks. But lets enter the realm of imagination for a moment and we'll see why even if they had the mental ability to use the Internet, most little ladies still wouldn't.
The reason for this is that most women simply lack the desire. All women find the greatest joy in life to be spent in the kitchen preparing a wholesome dinner, or in the bedroom serving her husband. While some women may dispute this, its a scientific fact that this is just a coy game some women play to attract a mate. Deep inside they all crave the glowing warmth that comes making a roast beef in a Crock Pot.
So the next time you hear someone claiming to be a "woman" on the Internet, think twice. I am saddened to say this, but most likely it is nothing more than a homosexual attempting to get his jollies with this immoral act. Remember what Egg Troll says: On the Internet, the men are men...and so are the women.

People have tried to write better version of, say, their web browser. No one wants them. I loathe Netscape. I'd rather spend the day punching myself in the dick than to use that. And Opera? I'm not going to pay for something that doesn't work nearly as well.
One reason Windows is (and forever will be) vastly superior to Linux is that everything is nicely integrated. Right now Linux just has a bunch of stand alone packages that don't mesh very well. Let me know when everything is as seemlessly integrated in Linux as it is in Windows. Until then my XP box will keep chugging away!
I hope to see several ActiveX controls put into that web page. If you ask my opinion, any OS which doesn't support ActiveX is sorely deficient. I would think that Linus would have Alan Cox make implementing the IETF-standard ActiveX a priority, but apparently not. I guess they're still trying to get Token Ring to work properly.
