would this be cheaper than RENTING a movie and watching it as much as you want (for ~3days)? Man, the only way this could succeed is if the disks were 4.00 each (as rentals are ~4.25 for new releases)
IANAL, but they are beta-TESTERS, they test the product, they have no need to look at the code. They are there for primarily the purpose of testing, if they had written code it could be debated, but how can they claim that they deserve to have the source, when they havent done anything but ran software your company created?
With the sheer weight of a laptop like that, you wouldn't be able to use it as a carry-on on an airplane;P nevermind when the joints get loose and one screen collapses and smashes into the screen below it lol =)
Man, this is so great to see large corporations backing Linux! Just when i was beginning to think linux was losing the war (Demise of Loki and other players), everyone and thier grandmother is jumping on the bandwagon =) Most people will probably complain about it, but I think that support from large companies will help linux make larger/faster strides =)
The slashdot community is cynical about "useless" technology? I don't think so;) I have not found so many people as slashdot that want head mounted displays/wearable-computers/computer implants/beowolf clusters of dreamcasts and or ps2's hehe =)
This might be a rant or something, but is this technology really needed? I can understand if one had a web tablet or something like that, but do you _really_ need streaming video on your cell phone? I can't imagine myself being on the run and having to watch the latest jenna jameson video or some such nonsense.
You make a good point, but its also contrtadictory, you are saying that if Microsoft breaks old software and consumers still want to use DOS, they will switch a new new operating system (thus STILL not being able to run DOS programs...)
"If Windows isn't too backwards compatible, people will complain like hell and use another OS"
A little bit of backwards compatibility is better than NO compatibility =)
...of a client for linux? This "free" trading network sounds like a really good idea! I dont' see why music industry or the RIAA would complain, if anything people can sample live music of bands and go out and get albums they like! =) intereesting concept =)
It was gonna happen eventually

Loki Games Closing?

I go to the local video game store (yes, a franchise) and what do i see? I can get any linux game for 10 bucks or under. If you consider the Windows version costs roughly 30 bucks or more, this is a huge loss to companies. Loki did some really great ports, but i think linux still has yet to prove itself as a gaming platform.
you don't need the X track, you jsut get some of your legos and make one track go OVER the other track =) (Note: make sure there is enough clearance =)
THe best way to estimate is to give a shorter time frame, this makes the developers work harder (faster?), if you give a large time frame, they work slow. no im not management, im a developer, I jsut call it like it is. You always see people scramble and whip out code right before a deadline.
Exscuse my lack of compression knowledge, but whats the current ratio? Im assuming 100:1 is pretty damn good. =) btw...even though this *might* be a good compression algorithm and all that, how long would it take to decompress a file using your joe average computer??
AM I the only one that wants modularity in his components? I mean if my dvd player fails, will the whole system crap out? Same goes for those gamecube/dvd player combos....i would prefer two seperate components...am I missing something??
I could see paying for the service if it supported updating KDE as well....but usually installing the gnome ximian packages does some things I dont like to KDE:
1) KDE's menu loses various programs like gimp, gphoto, etc.... (because the RPMS are now labeled *-ximian.*
2) It breaks KDE-pim rpm, basically you cant run KpilotDaemon anymore
3) I forget what else, but there are more.
anyways, thats just my 2 cents about the service.

its quite possible the code reviewers know the eaaster egg is THERE, usually code reviews are done by co-programmers, not management.

I really think they are in dire need of a *good* pda application.. kde-pim barely works (at least for me) =)

Maybe both machines should use EDO RAM? =)
"So let's confront the question: Should the US prohibit the export of high-encryption software?"
No, we should prohibit the export of Windows 2000. =)

Would this make the new segway obsolete? =)
Okay, but will there be a LINUX driver for the unit?? =)
